I had faux locs once. I took a lot of crap for them, but I got more attention male-wise when I had them than any other time in my life, but that was also my blond phase and the longest my hair has ever been... my extensions were blond and platinum white.

Completely different than the sentiment of the thread, I'm afraid, but a fun fashion nonetheless.
