i'm not going to speak for anyone else but i will clarify and support my statement that enron was a worse crime than what this kid did.

first, understand that i am not saying there is no severity to this child's actions. the kid raped 2 kids and a fucking dog. clearly the crime is awful. this child's crime, however, affected the immediate families involved and no one else. again, i'm not saying that makes it less horrific, i'm only saying that there are limits to the damage done.

the damage done by those little shits at enron affected the entire country, if not world. by undermining the capitalist system code of ethics (not to mention laws), these few men cost thousands of people their life's worth (financially speaking). how many families across the country were torn apart because of this? who knows...its immeasurable. how many people killed themselves because they saw everything they own taken from them because a few men stole and lied? who knows...and the effects of this, too, are immeasurable. how many generations will it take for some of these people to earn that money again? the business men...maybe not too long. but what about the electrician who worked for pg&e; what about the single mother who worked as an operator for any one of the many companies enron owned; what happens to their child's college fund now that every penny they saved in a 401k plan was lost because they trusted their employer when their employer told them to invest in the company's stock?

if just a few major american corporations did what enron did, the entire economic foundation of this country could collapse. now, if just a few people did what this sick kid did we would have some traumatized victims, yes, but the whole economic system we live off of would not be threatened. i know its a bold statement and i know some people will continue to disagree with it but there is nothing therapy or time can do for these people who lost everything due to the enron crime. they must start over from scrap. some wives and children have lost their fathers to suicide over the guilt they have from investing i this company. nothing will get those fathers back.

yes, the enron scandal was far worse than the sick crimes this child committed.

While I respect your opinion since you bothered to explain it rationaly, I disagree with it. Corporate malfeasance and scandal is nothing new, and certainly nothing that is a grave threat to the economy, IMHO, because the economy doesn't rely on faith in the system. If it did we'd all have been fucked long, long ago. The history of capitalism is also the history of corporate greed and swindling. There are many great books on this topic. Many people did lose their life savings, yes, but rape and murder is about losing more than your life savings. The average Enron worker managed to cope and start rebuilding. For what they did, those men should have gone to jail for life; the system is not set up for that, however.

Your examples are LAME! IF your example were to make ANY sence...it would have to be like this....
U work for a company all your life....and your choice is...either loose all your life savings or one of your children is voilated (molested and or raped by the neighbor kid) YOU PICK! NO one in their right mind would pick the money! Most people...when they loose their house or their money..what do they say? At least I have my family...or my health...not, damn, wish I'da just lost my kid instead...can always have another! doh!
I don't feel anyone is trying to say what happened to people at enron is no big deal because it certainly was but when you compare it to a small child being abused....it's just unbelievable...who the heck would compare the 2? Why on earth do you keep bringing up MJ and Prince....they have NOTHING to do with this topic. It's not a "stanger person" to the parents and family of the victims! Ask Madonna if she had to choose her children over her money/fame...I'd bet my house she'd pick her children!

I agree ... why can't people express disgust and abhorrence without being told that such and such a circumstance is far worse.

I don't agree that losing money is worse than being raped or killing, but then I'm not the victim in either circumstance.

As a defense attorney, how u know that the 13 yr old and 9 yr old didn't do it voluntarily if she was 9 casue i didn't read all of it cause i am at work. If done voluntarily they will not be scarred for life. U don't know that and i don't know that so i think no one should pass judgement until the full story and truth comes out. First off, if you're a defense attorney and you HAVEN'T READ ALL THE FACTS, then you can't POSSIBLY try this case or ANY case for that matter. Also, experts can tell you that kids having sex at a young age, especially 9, can play a huge role - negatively - on them as they get into adulthood.

I do not understand how we (or some of us) can put "equations" on the damage done by ANY crime.
How can it be that one (crime) is worse than another? It does depend on SO many variables, but I must tell you when I see cruel, personal victimization, which is what has occurred in this case...I am disgusted and appalled.
Our personal perspectives are what move us to respond...from my perspective...Enron...nothing compared to the up close and personal losses (physical, emotional, trust, etc.) these girls and secondary victims (dog owner and probably the boy's family as well) must feel in this instance.

I pray for them and those who do not understand or empathize with them and the consequences (trauma, trials, etc.) they must now endure.

i don't think anyone here has been guilty of a lack of understanding or empathy. what some of us are saying is that affecting the world is sometimes more serious than affecting a few individuals.

and yes, one crime can be worse than another. its why the criminal justice system has different punishments for various crimes. certainly you don't consider petty shoplifting and rape to be of similar severity?
