I think its pretty safe to say, Janet doesn't care about her music career or where it goes. Sad to see such a great career, end like this. My only gripe is, if she doesn't care, why did she even bother to tour in the first place? What was the point in doing the album, doing all that prep for touring and schedule venues to just cancel and dont even bother to re-schedule? I thought that she was doing this for her fans but her silence and lack of communication to fans is disregarding them. So what was her purpose, anybody have any thoughts? |

Janet, imo is the type of person to start out strong but than lose stream. After her RN she's postponed/cancelled on all of her tours. She has a horrible work ethic, due to her privileged upbringing. |

Yeah. That was exactly my reaction 'Oh, wow" Janet's boob. Cool!' and went to bed. Didn't think for a second that her career was coming to an end (or at least a major turning point). When I heard of the hoopla the next day, I had to watch it again, because I thought I missed something. |

Janet was a complete idiot for agreeing to that stunt. As a veteran entertainer it's common sense that if you're not able to rehearse a stunt you don't do it. She probably thought she could get away with it because she was such a media darling before hand but boy was she wrong. smh
I don't believe that BS about the bra either. Bra cups don't just rip off like that. It was waaay to easy for him to remove it. Nuh-uh |

My point is, there's always something with her when it comes to touring. Excuse after excuse. It's extremely hard to sympathize. I've seen other people sick and still pull it together enough to get on stage. Kelly Rowland literally colapsed on stage and had to be taken to the ER during Say My Name. She still tried to finish the show regardless of whether she felt well or not. Because her band members were dependant on her.
It's not just about Janet. Other people's livelyhood are at stake. Dancers, bus drivers, constructors, band members. The working class people that actually do the heavy lifiting (transporting the stage, setting it up, etc) can't afford her postponing because she has a headache and refuses to take an asprine!

I agree with everything but I have to respectfully disagree with this though. I think she worked REALLY hard to make a name for herself outside of Michael's shadow which was not something easy to do and takes a lot of work ethic. From what I see, Janet gives up to easily and is easily discouraged. The SB was her ONLY big major downfall she had to really overcome and 10 years later she still hasn't risen above it and I personally think some of it is her fault. She is not really a "fighter" (which she said herself). She is not fighting to maintain her legacy or her career ......why i don't know!!!!and yes you are correct, that has a lot to do with her priviledge upbringing. If she had to break through the industry doors the traditional way without having the help of her last name, I think she would have a lot more resilence.

I agree with what you said about getting out of his shadow, which takes a lot of work but that's more of a behind the scenes, marketing compenet than strenuous physical labor. Which is what I was thinking about when I made that comment. She wasn't performing everywhere, going mall to mall, playing in night clubs, trying to get people to buy her album. Which would have helped her adjust and apprecate the big leagues. So I agree with what you said, but I also stand by what I said. :p
When it comes to physically exterting herself week after week for months, she, like I stated before starts off strong but then loses stream. There's definitely a pattern here.

I hate to say this Wendy Williams had a better idea... She should have done a residency in Las Vegas and called it a day. Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman |

That doesn't really pertain to the current situation, which was a business oriented move. The same as the cancellation of the RWY tour in Japan and AFY in Europe. RWY in the US probably was a mixture of both (I still refuse to believe that she says, she's sick, when she's not). And well, the odd postponement here and there, I give her that. Shit happens. She only cancelled 1 out of 82 shows on the Number Ones tour. |

That's bs too. As long as an artist is willing and capable to travel around the world he/she should do so. Not everyone can go to Las Vegas to see their favourite artist. |

Yes. I do believe that she wasn't doing too well and seeing that those RWY shows had a disappointing turnout influenced her in the decision to cancel instead of postponing.

Well. You lie, distort, make up your own things all the time. But maybe you should have gotten a different watch. Saw that tour too and the show wasn't as long as you claim. It was about 2 hours. My shows started with the opening act at 7:30 and Janet starting around 9. |

Okay. Now see, this is something i'm on the fence on. I want to believe her, but it's all a little to convinent for me. I especially don't want to think of her as capable of lying about something as serious as throat cancer. Why hasn't she learned from her mistakes and gotten a check-up before hand? I do think she's lied about things to the public before (nipplegate, the weight gain in 2006 for a "movie role" in particular). Gil actually exposed her last year when she said an "ear issue" was the reason she cancelled her iheart radio gig. Believing there's truth to every instance is incredibly naive. |

112 was NOT the opening act for the Rock witchu tour, but there WERE songs from the first two albums and the show, which was her longest show, was about 2 hours 20 mins long.

Thanks for giving me other things to also consider. For some strange reasons she seemed to be more consistent during the 90's. I don't recall there be that many cancellations during the Janet and VR tours (I could be wrong though) but your right. There have repeatly been excessive cancellations since 2001. I think she did better during her up close and personal tour because she mostly played small venues and theaters and there weren't any costume changes. She did over 80 shows. She probably should stick to smaller venues and stripped down shows OR do a residency but I believe her ego would never allow her to do a residency.

She was younger in the 90s to be fair. She was also the media darling, so that probably helped her confidence.
Why not? Michael was about to do one. That was in the 02 arena, but still. [Edited 3/13/16 20:08pm] |
