Same. I knew that was what it really was. Janet still hasn't learned from the Rock Wit U era. I don't know if it is mismanagement or if its ego but I am not sure why she could not just simply book smaller venues. For some of the venues in the US they were small so I am not sure why she didn't book smaller ones in Europe.

yeah, she could have saved herself all this drama by scheduling the shows in smaller venues that would easily sellout.

It has become a disturbing pattern for Janet: announce a big tour in large arenas.....the tickets don't sell very well...dates are cancelled because of a "medical emergency" (according to her camp).I think fans can see right through this.

Seems that way.

I guess the Ego thinks she is still at her peak.

Agree

The thing I dont understand about this mess is that she was doing theater shows IN THE USA. So why not book theater shows in Europe? What would possessed her to book arena dates in EUROPE when she was never big in Europle to begin with? I want Janet to win but she keeps making careless career decisions that are easily avoidable. A large portion of that has to do with her ego and poor management.

How about, actually apologizing to her fans that rearranged their lives just to see her? Instead of blowing them off.

Yes, she is Janet Jackson, but that name alone isn't worth a thing in todays industry. Her status has dropped significatly since her prime back in the 90s due to the flakey, above-it-all behavior she continually demonstrates.

No, but if she needs 4 days to address the tour cancellation, without actually saying anything (what the hell is "as soon as I can" supposed to mean?) and offering zero apology, she should refrain from plugging a show, which needs no plugging since it's a add on to the horse race with a built in audience, the very next day. She should lay low another 4 days, wait until the end of next week and then, if it really has to be, she can plug that show.

its not gossip its FACTS... live nation doesnt up and cancell dates 3 weeks before when they have been in the market since last month doing a run through for the tour. Janet needs to come clean about the axing of that run. If she cancels my show I wont be mad since i got tickets for $20 each.

Agree with everything. This is why when someone said earlier she was humble. I said, no she is not THAT humble. Janet can be quite pretentious. There are a rack of interviews during the 90's where she shows it. I don't think she is as bad as some other celebrity egos but she can be pretentious at times. It was inconsiderate of her to not give an explanation for those cancellations to her European fans, PERIOD.

If she really does reschedule these European dates in smaller venues, I would be worried that she wouldn't even sell these out. I mean, the only people who will buy tickets are the fans who've already had their fingers burnt with Janet.

I kind of hope she does stick to her word, I would still go see her but then maybe that makes me glutten for punishment?

I think the way she's treated her European fans over the years has been abysmal. At the end of the day, she's got the audience she deserves in Europe, she would never pull half this shit in her home country. Fans still remember her cancelling the European leg of the AFY tour, so her cancelling yet another European leg just feels like adding insult to injury to a lot of fans.

It doesn't really matter if the cancellations were beyond her control this time, the backlash she's facing on social media is just her past tardiness catching up with her unfortunately. At the end of the day she talks a big game about caring about her fans etc, but actions speak louder than words. Look how the European market accepted MJ as one of their own when he toured the continent extensively on the Dangerous and HIStory tours. His US market may have suffered as a result, but only because he wasn't putting himself out there and chose to focus on other markets who embraced him. With Janet, she has tried to have the best of both worlds, trying to sell out venues she really has no business playing in Europe. There is a big world outside of America and I think the laid-back promotional approach to Unbreakable was a terrible idea from the get-go, she needed to re-establish herself in these markets and then perhaps people would've warmed to her again. She can't just put out a record with zero promotion and expect European fans to flock to see her as if it's 1998 all over again.

She doesn't have that same star status as Michael to be able to just disappear and reappear whenever she likes and still have people waiting for her. Of course she will always have her diehards, but they aren't nearly large enough in numbers to fill out multiple arenas dates in major cities across Europe.

[Edited 3/10/16 1:34am]

Sorry for coming in to this late. I had tickets for the London O2 show so am a little disappointed. I'd taken the next day off work for the hell of it, but it's no big deal personally I as I live about 5 minutes away from the venue. I've never seen Janet live as she has now cancelled twice when I had bought tickets.

The thing with what Michael did may be amazing, but it literally killed him in the end. I really and truly think that Janet fell down post-SuperBowl and should have used 2004-2005 picking up European promotion. Whatever backlash she suffered from her main market in the US - the European press and fans almost all universally throught it was some hilarious overreaction. It would have done her the world of good to stop apologising to America and use it to her advantage in Europe. Although I understand MJ was also preparing for trial at the time so maybe she wanted to stay close.

Her management should have really either scheduled fewer dates in arenas or more dates in smaller venues.

Agree. I felt she should have traveled to Europe during that fiasco too. When America blacklisted her, she should have went over to Europe and worked on building up a fanbase over there. If she had consistently done that since 2004, she probably would have a much larger following over there and maybe could have sold out an arena. I personally didnt like the way she was managed during that fiasco. Even Michael told her to stop apologizing. I am glad she listened and did not agree to go to the Grammys that year. Why if you already released an apology video you have to keep saying with every appearance? Thats ridiculous.

Yep. And on the other side of the Atlantic it was the most press she'd ever got - not for what actually happened but the US media/industry reaction. If she'd bared her breast(s) over here we'd have all been like "Oh look, boobs... haha" and that would have been that.

I honestly think it was made a bigger deal because MJ was going on trial and was heavily scuntinized by the media. So in a way that incident was used as a scape goat for Michaels problems. It sucks she had to take some of his backlash on. I think if it had been any other person, it would not have been made into a big deal. She was a JACKSON and they were trying to drag that name through the mud during that last decade. The reason why I say this because of the lengths they went to tarnish her, black listing her on the radio, not promoting her, etc. There was a small period MJ was blacklisted too but not as much as Janet was.
