The only one on Robin's knob is Justin Timberlake, trying to suck his new life out of it. eek

It's not a matter of Robin's inventing the jazzy, blue-eyed soul style. It's the fact that he's the primary one in the mainstream executing it right now and getting adoration and acceptance from it.

Justin Timberlake's style was not like this in the past. It just seems suspect to find the obscure thing that's working for the other popular blue-eyed soul singer and duplicate that schtick when you've made a name for yourself ... not by being fringe... but by being pop and mixing pop and R&B. Seems inauthentic and gimmicky to me.

I used to love JT. And when he's on SNL, I still do. HIs music is underwhelming to me now, though.

POW!

That was funny but...

I just can't

It's real simple. Justin Timberlake has been doing the same styles for his entire solo career. He didn't just start doing any of the stuff people are complaining about. His first solo album was released in 2002. Robin Thicke's first solo album was released in 2003. Justin Timberlakes second solo album, the incredibly popular and succesful Futuresex/Lovesounds, was released in 2006. Robin Thicke's second solo album was released in 2007. Hello-and-shut-the-fuck-up-thank-you. lol

Not to mention the fact that NEITHER OF THEM originated ANY of the stuff they're doing. Not even for white guys. And while we're on that subject, why are so many people who don't know Justin Timberlake AT ALL, talking all kinds of shit about him for working with black people, but not talking the same shit about Robin Thicke. Transparent nonsensical hate, people.

I dug Robin during that period. Then he had to try to compete for that Justin look. neutral And yeah, Jon B. was doing it before them two even showed up. lol Robin was a struggling songwriter just out of high school and Justin hadn't even joined N Sync yet when Jon was popular. lol

Yes Jon B is the smoothest white boy out there.

I'll never forgive the industry for chewing him up and spitting him out, because he's still putting out strong material, though independently.

If you really look at it it's all a matter of WHO you prefer when it comes to the Robin/Justin debate.

My point?

Some of these debates (as you get older) seem redundant.

Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavign are ALL the same.

Britney, Christina, Madonna, Kylie.

ALL the same.

That you like Madonna over Lady Gaga is just a matter of you liking Madonna over Lady Gaga. But to trash one in comparison to the other, like one is SO much different then the other, can seem futile.

When i first heard that new Justin song I did immediately think of Robin in terms of song AND look. But like I said it's not like Robin invented either. Now Robin has a James Dean type thing going on.

It's not even a Justin/Robin debate for me. Truthfully, I could really not care less about what anybody thinks of either of them. My point is that people are spouting a bunch of nonsense as if it's fact. And acting like they know the guy (Justin) personally. First of all, their facts are wrong. Second, read the shit people have been saying in this thread objectively. It makes it sound like they grew up with the guy and are intimately familiar with his life, his friends, his career and why he choses to write and sing those songs. Some of the stuff people have said is so far over the wackadoo line that it's actually a little bit disturbing, at least, and maybe a bit sociopathic. They DON'T know him. lol

Hmmm if that's the case then it's an interesting sociological debate.

Jon B only messes with black girls too. Given that they both do black music one would suppose that people feel they're on "our" side?

It's a lot of baggage to lay on the poor, innocent performance.

Plus Justin is looked on by some as laying Janet out to dry after Nipplegate, and saw his career skyrocket while hers floundered, and had the nerve to "make light"(speculation) of it in that song he did with Tim and Nelly Furtado.

All that while leaving out the fact that Janet had been out for what, over twenty years, before her career started the inevitable stall.

Again more baggage.

You don't think this is a new style for Justin? Can you point me to songs on albums pre-Robin Thick that sounded like his new stuff.

And he's got the new hair and jazz band. This is new. I have no idea why you are saying he's doing the same style and acting like Robin's schtick didn't set an obvious precedent.

Justin has tried a lot of different things because he's an emulator and even still I don't remember anything sounding like what he's attempting now. So, help me out. smile

Where is this stuff coming from about criticizing Justin for working with black people???? This is truly something I haven't heard before. That, to me, is what has set Justin apart and made him popular.

BTW, I don't even have albums by Robin. I hear him around the way. I have two JT albums. So, it's not even about defending Robin or stanning for Robin as someone stated earlier. It's about principle. It someone's an overhyped copycat, you gotta say it!

Word is Adele went in on him for not standing during the standing ovation that Frank Ocean received. Additionally it was reported that Thug Brown did not receive any audience applause when his name was announced as a nominee. I wish he would just go away with bad posture, hunch back and giraffe neck self.

^And to add to that...

Adele Denies Dissing Chris Brown at the Grammys

Rumor had it Adele had a bone to pick with Chris Brown, but it turns out it's much ado about nothing.

After the above photo hit the Web and appeared to give people the impression that the songstress was chastising Breezy at Sunday Night's Grammy Awards, Adele took to her Twitter page to clarify exactly what went down during their encounter.

And by her own account, she and Brown are just fine.

Adele, Chris BrownLarry Busacca/WireImage

"Chris Brown and I were complimenting each other in that photo actually!" tweetedthe "Chasing Pavements" diva.

Of course, viewers could be forgiven for thinking the worst given that Brown failed to join in a standing ovation after fellow R&B star Frank Ocean bested him for a Best Urban Contemporary Album Grammy—this after the two got into a fight at a Los Angeles recording studio recently. And by the looks of a still image taken from the telecast, Adele appeared to take note of the "Run It" singer's sore-loser behavior.

But the two dispelled such notions after they were later snapped posing for pictures together.

We're glad Adele finally cleared things up once and for all.

http://www.eonline.com/news/387913/adele-denies-dissing-chris-brown-at-the-grammys?cmpid=rss-000000-rssfeed-365-topstories&utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=rss_topstories

So there was no big "fight" between them, just the media making up a story when there is none as usual.

I think Justin Timberlake can be enjoyed more by some of us if we remove the nagging subtext from the equation.

What subtext?

That he gets way too much praise for being the savior of R&B.

That he believes his own hype.

That he'll do anything to remain uber-popular.

And the most glaring; If he were black no one would care.

Where is any of that coming from? Who has said it? What facts do you have to back it up? Because nobody I know feels that way. In short, that's YOUR baggage. That's what you put on him. And how the hell is not making an album for six years doing "anything to remain uber-popular"? lol

Shard said:

-Justin Timberlake was as I always say, mediocre. He wasn't terrible but certainly not great and damn I am SICK of the hype about him! The way they had Beyonce introduce him as if he were an all-time great or something falloff Also, is Timberlake purposely trying to get Robin Thicke comparisons? His new hair style and dressing up is what Thicke does...not to mention borrowing from Prince and Sinatra.

What hype? The last few weeks since his album was announced? lol Again, dude has been gone from music for at least four years. He's also been making and releasing music longer than Robin Thicke. And in case you (and others) missed it, people in the music business actually, ya know, LIKE him.

Also, here's a picture of Robin Thicke from the time of his first album before some urban contemporary, R&B stylist associated with Interscope Records and Pharrell Williams got ahold of him and cleaned him up so they could move some units.

You're welcome.

People gonna hate. But hate intelligently, please. lol

Wrong

Robin cut his hair during his first album because his fiancee, now wife, wanted him to. I know because I went to those early shows and actually spoke to him a few times. His offical response was it was time to grow up, but he actually mentions Paula making him cut his hair in one of his songs. If you paid attention, you would see his hair was cut in the Brand New Jones video. Pharrell and Interscope had nothing to do with it

Also, Justin has not been making music longer than Robin. Robin was a producer and songwroter making hits for many artists since the early 90's. Justin's solo Album was released a year prior to Robn's solo album and Robin has made more albums than Justin. Justin had the popularity of his subpar boy band assist in his success. If he was never in that band, it may have never made it to the level he is at now.

This new style Justin is going for is the very echo of Robin. Justin is also a Robin fan, himself going to those early shows to see Robin.

The long hair guy on the bike thing was not Robin's idea, nor was it who Robin really was. It was forced on him by Andre Harrell, even the song, which he now refuses to sing
