I keep hearing so much about Frank Ocean (I still haven't listened to his album properly) but that performance was just awful, what an awful song... Forrest Gump? That has to be one of his worst songs right? The lyrics... just weren't good. confused

Trent Reznor won for Best Score for "The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo"

Best World Album went to Ravi Shankar for his "The Living Room Sessions Pt. 1"

Bjork won Best Recording Package "Biliophila" (SP?)

Robert Glasper won for Best R&B Album

I guess NaS can forget about ever winning anything while Jay-Z has something out.

Even Mr. Softee himself won Best Rap Album of the Year. Oh....Drake.

Rihanna won Best Short Form Video for "We Found Love".

But did Beyonce really out perform Anita Baker's "Lately" with her "Love On Top" to win Best Traditional R&B Performance?

Usher's "Climax" won over Miguel's "Adorn" for Best R&B Performance.

I don't think Mary Mary's loud "Go Get It" should have won over James Fortune's "Hold On" But that's just me.

The Grammys definitely were more indie-lite friendly this year compared to year's past in the Pop/Rock categories. However, they still are missing the mark in the sub or less popular categories. And they're sitill are wasting nominations with Taylor Swift's "Never Ever...." and "Call Me Maybe". I mean, that's what the AMA's are for right Dick Clark? (RIP)

Oh.... Prince Rogers Nelson is still the coolest mafucka in the Earth.

[Edited 2/11/13 5:25am]

I think she did. Anita's remake is nice, but "Love On Top" was the biggest R&B song of 2012. I think it's the best r&b song she's recorded since her remake of "The Closer I Get To You" with Luther (which she won a Grammy for also).

I said the same thing when the nominations first came out and people were saying that Beyonce deserved to win the Grammy but I personally think Melanie Fionna or Anita could have won that. But of course their going to give it to Beyonce because she is a "grammy darling". I think Love on Top is more pop R&B than traditional

I LOVE Lately by Anita and find it to be more traditional than Love on Top which is more pop.

While I dont like Miguel, Adorn was like the best song that came out last year. That song was playing EVERY WHERE. He definitly should have won it over Usher but its the same situation like it is with Beyonce, HIS USHER, so they are going to give it to him.

I LOVE Mary Mary but I AGREE.... Hold On is a better gospel song... Go Get It... was okay.

While this year was better, the Grammys still have alot of politics and favorites. I personally dont care either way. The Grammys are a joke to me. Acts like Kanye, Beyonce, Jay, Alicia etc have 17/20 grammys eek and acts like Erykah, Jill, Anothony, Mint Condition, Queen, Bob Marley, have none or like 1 or 2.

RIDICULOUS...

I am not trying to complain but just saying. I think this year was an improvement similiar to last year.

Prince is one BAD mofo with his cane cool

Really?

I find "Hold On" to be pretty bland. I'm not disagreeing about Mary Mary winning, but the award was for the song and not the vocal performance. I think the song is good, but I don't think it has the same lasting power as some of their previous work.

As for "Love On Top," I think it outshines the others in that category. I love Anita and think Melanie Fiona is just average. I do wish they would have nominated a few "off the radar" people in these categories. A lot of the nominations were predictable.

I believe at this stage, a vote for Mary Mary in the Gospel categories are equivalent to Usher, U2, John Mayer and other industry darlings.

Well, Warryn Campbell is friends with Beyonce and Kanye. lol

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that doesn't get him. Everything I've heard from him is horrible. Lyrics, arrangements, vocals, etc.....all bad.

After hearing him accept his award, I'm convinced that the guy is 5 short of a 6 pack.

I fully agree ! his performance was off key and boring. a horrible vocal performance compared to the rest of the show. I have nothing against him but frank ocean is very over rated, and he proved it last night at the grammys.

I don't know enough about him to know if he's overrated or not. I know a lot of people think very highly of his album. I know that a lot of musicians seem to think his songs are great, speaking very highly their raw emotion and the content (personally, I liked his first, unofficial album more than channel ORANGE). But we all know that vocal weaknesses can be fixed in the studio these days. The Grammys hyped his performance, literally, for the entire show. They were teasing it as the went to break all night long. Then he won an award, which only hightened expectations. But all night long there was really solid performances. That rich, jaded and highly competitive audience doesn't usual give five, or six (or however many it was) standing ovations during one Grammy telecast. Last night they did. Then, near the end of the show, right before LL and Chuck D rocked the stage, they placed nervous, in the wrong key, mistake makin' Frank Ocean, doin' a slow jam, on an organ? lol

I enjoyed the show.

fav. performances were definitely Jack White, The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons and Justin Timberlake. great!!

I don't get why Fun. is so popular in the usa... they suck live.

Bruno, Sting and Rihanna did a nice tribute. i liked it. i always thought Locked Out heaven sounded like a Police song. Rihanna did a good job with Stay, she sings good for once.

Too bad they cut of the end with LL Cool J, Tom Morello, Travis Baker, etc...

the winners that won, don't agree with them. I think The Black Keys are great. but they won too many of the awards, because the rock category, had too many great artists being nominated.

This was probably the best grammy awards i have seen in years...

I wasn't totally bored and most of the performances were good to great.

The people i like all got at least 1 award they deserved and the closing was beyond epic cool

I'm suprised man they really stepped it up this year.

You my boy but I disagree with this On Go Get It... I dont think it sucks, its very catchy but I think Hold On is a much worthy gospel song for a grammy. There is NOTHING bland about Hold On (Its not the BEST gospel song in the world but I think its much better than Go Get It) lol Go Get It is much blander than Hold On (This coming from a BIG Mary Mary fan) lol They got that award because it was popular on gospel stations. I just feel Hold On is the better song. On Love on Top: I dont think its a crap song and its actually worthy to be nominated but I disagree with the category. I feel its more pop than traditional than the rest of the songs nominated. So I feel it should have been included in the regular R&B category. Its one of her better songs but just because its one of HER better songs does not mean its "impressive" or should win it. Once again she snagged that grammy because of who she is. I dont think Melanie Fionna is average (not to mention she is a really good live performer, Ive seen her live). She sings traditional R&B songs and that Lately song by Anita is a traditional R&B song whether it was the best or not ( It did fairly well on R&B stations). I just dont think its fair how certain songs are nominated in certain categories that dont fit the category because it takes away from another potential nominee All these nominations are based off of industry darlings because if we were to solely go off popularity... (I dont like Miguel but) How come Miguel did not win his grammy for Adorn that was a smash everywhere last year? They gave it to Usher Its alot more to who wins... than just popularity. Its very fixed and biased. Alot of them buy their grammy's

Its predictable because they give the same awards to the same people, EVERY year.

ONCE AGAIN, I know why folks like Anothony Hamilton never goes to these things. lol

I think this thread is the first time I've said anything about him since Odd Future first started getting noticed. And I don't think it's cool or anything else. I was excited to see him perform. His performance WAS stripped down and personal, and if he had nailed it, it would be one of the things people were talking about today as being great. But he didn't. And it's not just the org, it's EVERY music site. People everywhere are saying, "WTF, Frank?" That performance was not good.

ONCE AGAIN, I know why folks like Anothony Hamilton never goes to these things. lol

I agree about that category for sure. I was hoping for anyone other than Usher. I think "Climax" is horrible, but that's just me.

However, I'm glad that Miguel did win one.

I can see why you would say certain things about the other nominations, I still say "Love on Top" is not a pop song at all. It reminds me of a track that a 60s or 70s group would sing.

That's what I thought when I heard it on Super Bowl Sunday. Say all you want about Bey but that track is poppin'. I wasn't really feeling Anita's cover of Tyrese's song though I admire she's still got that same soulful voice she always had since 1979 so that's a plus.

Plus Bjork & Trent as mentioned winning a grammy makes me nerdy heart go excited

I knew you guys would diss on Fran Ocean but i thought his performance was stripped and very personal so i dug it cool

I have to say it's like the cool thing on the org to diss Frank yet last year lots of yall were crazy about Channel Orange but it got to much talk and suddenly he sucks lol

lol

Thats because people here are phooney and I AGREE its pretty hilarious to see the people that were raving about him turn around and bash him. razz I thought he was a creative songwriter but I always thought he as well as (Channel Orange) was overrated by the org when he first came out and I will never understand Miguel's popularity here.

Yes, I think we were among the few who actually thought he is a talented song-writer but extremly overrated and I personally never liked his singing voice. I was more hyped about him being openly bisexual in a very homophobic genre, but the album in itself wasn'tsomething I was praising. Miguel is just neutral ...

Oh girl you know Im not talking bout you razz

Its just alot of people here do switch up lol:

I remember vividly last summer people were hyping Frank in that Channel Orange thread and was even bashing people that criticized him. There were a ton of Frank Ocean threads. lol I listened to that album twice because of the org and still thought the album was not all of that.

It might be better than what its competing against but I still wouldnt buy it.

razz Oh okay. You know I love you like a play-cousin biggrin wink Anyway, I don't get the hype with certain artists period, and it's not just here. hmmm

And you know I love you like a big sis and love that your not afraid to speak your mind razz ...Thanks for putting me in check lol , Ima edit my post and put SOME people instead of all because dont want folks (that its not directed to) thinking Im talking about everybody literally lol razz

I dont get the hype with alot of artists either. The music should simply speak for itself. If it needs to be hyped that means its not all of that to begin with.
