I always assumed that she was doing pretty good,in her career. She's got a loyal, devoted audience which makes it easy for her to tour regularly.

She is very talented and has a big heart. I hope her financial recovery is not too traumatic. She does not appear to be very "book smart" which is unfortunate. It does say alot about the double standard of designer dresses, hot cars, and the so called glamorous life we assume our heroes lead. Maybe she will channel these struggles into some new classics and get her money right. Otherwise her and Miss Hill should tour together and call it the "Pay My Bills" Tour. I'd buy a ticket.

she and Toni Braxton
Some of these artists seriously need to take a money management class before they sign any recording contracts.

They can duet on "All That I Can Say" and the remix to "Be With You"

Mary has been in the game too long to be having money issues. I call B.S.

Definately. They hire these financial & business managers who they know nothing about and end up getting scammed and robbed blind. And before they know it, the hit records have stopped, they are without a label and they are touring, struggling to fill-up small venues. It happens all the time in the music business. That's why it's wise for an artist to learn the BUSINESS side of the music business and invest their money wisely. Know your own financial situation. Don't leave it up to some stranger. Now that you say that

Also, it would've been in her best interest if she actually had her own publishing company. That would've helped with her finances. I doubt she has one. And since she doesn't write all of her songs (or the ones she's credited, only a small chunk) so yeah.

Lord Not THAT Note Publishing (ASCAP)

nah a publishing not directed to ASSCap or BMI. Which is probably not that easy to do.

Does Mary have any non-music businesses or endorsements? For example a perfume or some other product. Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and Beyonce all have so many different ways they get income that they'll never go broke.
In addition to not having many production or writing credits, I would be willing to bet that like Toni Braxton, Mary probably didn't have a lot of perks written into her contract. What I mean is, unless you're the top of the top line of stars, being put up in the best room at the best hotels, designer clothes, expensive jewerly and makeup all end up coming out of your check you get from the record label. Toni Braxton had no idea about any of this and would take her sisters along for the lavish lifestyle ride, so when the check came, she barely got anything out of it.

She was selling something on QVC but I forgot if it was a brand of hers she was selling or not...

All they do is track and administer your publishing. She'd be fine if she had one.
Yo Puff I Don't Think They're Ready For This Publishing (BMI)

Oh OK.
But I confess. I'm slow. I just got your first joke. "One Note Publishing". But I loved the second one more. Or more appropriately, "Yo Puff Don't Steal My Publishing (BMI)".

Man, she must have some sort of bank, because Puff himself said Mary wrote the lyrics on My Life album; she asked him if the lyrics were good.

She has to lol there's some footage of her actually writing lyrics... I'm short of putting the blame on this on Kendu Isaacs, her husband.

Mary J. Blige's Financial...0 Tax Lien
Mary J. Blige's financial issues just seem to get worse and worse.
The singer, 42, has been hit with a $901,769.65 tax lien in the State of New Jersey, according to documents obtained by TMZ. And to make matters worse, this delinquent tax issue is only one in a handful of monetary woes Blige has been faced with over the last couple of months.
The "No More Drama" songstress was justsued earlier this month for allegedly defaulting on a $500,000 bank loan. According to the lawsuit filed by Bank of America in New York State Supreme Court, Blige took out the loan in 2005 and stopped making re-payments in June 2012.
Plus in Nov. 2012, Blige and her husband Martin Isaacs were hit with another lawsuitafter they failed to pay off a $2.2 million bank loan. According to court documents filed in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan, Signature Bank is seeking to recoup the original loan plus $58,000 in interest.
But that's not all.
In 2012, Blige's charity, The Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now Inc, was accused of mishandling funds and cheating scholarship students. TMZ reports that the foundation was sued for failing to pay back a $250,000 loan.
Blige's team has yet to comment on the tax lien.
