I love Mary Mary but I am not a big fan of their song that won a Grammy Go Get It. Its one of their weaker songs imo. MJ L.O.V.E: https://www.facebook.com/...689&type=2 / YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/us...nderSilent

Agree.
I dont think I was clear about Love on Top. I think it is definitly an R&B song but I dont think it is as traditional as the other nominations. I think it would have done better in a regular R&B category but the grammys have changed their catagories so much so I am not sure if a category like that still exists

I'm mad at two things:
1) That Usher beat out Luke James for best male R&B vocal.
2) That there isn't a more decent video of his stellar performance at "Black Girls Rock".
I don't want to hear nothin bout Justin Timberlake, Usher, Chris Brown et al. This kid blows!

I think Forest Gump is an inventive and unique song but yes that performance was terrible. IN fact, Frank should refuse to sing publicly anymore. IT's not something he can do.
The album version of this song is very enjoyable. I'm not certain why Frank felt the need to change the tempo and delivery. And that video screen with is legs moving... I know what he was trying to do but it was sooo cheesy. It just didn't work.
Worst performance of the night.

I became a Jack White fan last night. Yes, the reggae/Marley tribute was engaging and perfect for Rihanna, who often has a hard time soundng decent. But I liked her last night -- both performances.
I didn't enjoy Justin Timberlake, maybe because it seems he just stole Robin Thicke's schtick to recreate himself. I don't know. He rubs me the wrong way and they gave him wayyy too much praise and hype last night.
I thought the show was really polished, fun and had a good mix of real musicians/simple entertainers, young/old, obscure/pop.
I only watched to see Prince, but the diversity and at least some concern for real music impressed. I'm glad it wasn't just bubblegum pop and youngfolks. (So glad Bieber continues to be snubbed).

People really enjoyed him when he toured last year in front of crowds of about 1,500 people.
I thought his Jimmy Kimmel "coming out" performance was nice too.
But if expectations are high and the television audience large (SNL, Grammys) he seems to shrink.
It's not a crime people. He works better in intimate venues. Arena shows can suck anyways. Most times you can barely see the artist.

I like Frank Oceans album, but I have heard stuff by non published artist who are just as good if not better and have more material. Our own Sah ril for instance. To make a thief, make an owner; to create crime, create laws.

I think Justin Timberlake can be enjoyed more by some of us if we remove the nagging subtext from the equation.
What subtext?
That he gets way too much praise for being the savior of R&B.
That he believes his own hype.
That he'll do anything to remain uber-popular.
And the most glaring; If he were black no one would care.
But that's all baggage, and once you remove all that you can take him for what he is, a competent performer with a not-quite-there voice that he uses efficiently, and capable producers that deliver the goods for him. Which translates into good material.
His second performance was really good. Like I said reminds me of 1 part Prince, 2 parts Robin Thicke.
For my money though Jack White was tops.

I like him but his performances is the main reason why I could never stan for him It's messed up that he can not sing live (he's not the only one)but you would think he could work on his vocals. I never thought he was a great singer though.

Hopefully Frank will step up his live performancs but i honestly think he i just a studio guy.
I think you are a good songwriter and at least give some passion in a performance then you don't have to be an amazing singer.
Kanye for example can't sing for shit but those live performances of him singing Runaway circa 2010 were great. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I'm not really a fan of Frank's live performances, but I loved his Grammy performance :hide:

I used to stan for Frank hard on this site. But he is just too much drama so I had to take a break.
Regarding his inability to perform. You know Beyonce used to be a terrible live performer too. I remember when she came out and people were like -- she sounds Egyptian because would make a voice tremble way too much. Her voice was nothing special live. I can remember some terrible performances. But apparently she got a vocal coach, she no longer sounds "Egyptian" but Tina-Turnerish and she can really belt it out live. She's transformed herself tremendously. (Although recently to me her vocals seem to be diminishing)
Frank needs to get a trainer too. And he needs a mentor to help him develop a live performance style. He has no clue what he's doing and it looks amateur. Jay Z used to not know how to put on a show either and he's said how watching rock musicians helped him stage a better show.
I have seen some live performances on Youtube where Frank did ok. And he's sung Forrest Gump in New York at a small venue and sounded fab. He's incredibly unpredictable but last night and performances like that do a disservice to his reputation. A lot of people he admired (prince, adele) were there and I don't know if he was too nervous or what but he truly fvked up.

I fuckin love Adele.
http://metro.co.uk/2013/0...s-3402614/
Adele gave Chris Brown a piece of her mind during the Grammys ceremony (Picture: Getty) Chris Brown found one woman willing to stand up to him when Adele was caught on camera giving the bruiser a dressing down on live TV. The British superstar appeared to go on the attack and unleash a verbal torrent at Rihanna’s rekindled lover after he lost his manners when his rival Frank Ocean beat him to a prize at the Grammys. Cameras failed to pick up what the Skyfall singer was saying to Brown but captured her fronting up to him and barking at him. Brown looked like he’d met his match when he appealed to the seven time Grammy winner during the exchange. The 24-year-old made her move after Brown failed to rise to his feet with the rest of the crowd when Frank Ocean beat him to the best urban contemporary album gong. Cameras captured the Turn Up The Music singer sulking in his chair before he was confronted by the bolshie songstress.
Brown, 23, and Ocean, 25, were involved in a spat last month during a run-in at a Los Angeles’s car park. Chris was accused in a police report of allegedly threatening to shoot Ocean during the run in. Frank decided not to press charges after the row letting the bruiser off the hook and said in a statement: ‘I’m an artist and a modern person. I’ll choose sanity. No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. Peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace.’ The pair’s warring extends back to last year after Brown denied making homophobic slurs online towards the openly gay star The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

Thoughts on the grammys ( I recorded it and watched it just now. btw people I added 30 minutes extra while taping it and I'm glad I did as it went over the scheduled time):
-I never give a _____ as to who wins or doesn't win. When I was a kid I did, but then I realized it's mostly BS and half the time the better material doesn't win.
-I liked Bruno Mars, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson the most. All of them have great voices.
-Rihanna was actually acceptable last night which surprised me.
-Miguel was just OK. I think he can get better with time though. Maybe he's not fully comfortable yet. Also, I would have liked to hear him do "Adorn" without Wiz...
-Frank Ocean was obviously a major disappointment and I think as others said, it's about nerves with him. Hopefully he can overcome them.
-Justin Timberlake was as I always say, mediocre. He wasn't terrible but certainly not great and damn I am SICK of the hype about him! The way they had Beyonce introduce him as if he were an all-time great or something Also, is Timberlake purposely trying to get Robin Thicke comparisons? His new hair style and dressing up is what Thicke does...not to mention borrowing from Prince and Sinatra.
-Alicia Keys and Maroon 5 were forgettable and I thought it was weird to pair them together
-LL Cool J will always be my favorite DILF Johnny Depp is a nasty creep and I never like seeing him.

Adele needs to mind her own business. Was Chris up in her face about her "baby weight" still hanging around? Chris was clapping, not sulking. He doesn't have to give Frank a standing ovation -- it wasn't even deserved.
Why didn't she admonish Frank about starting conflict over a parking space. Of course, he didn't say anything to adele. Not because he met his match, but because whatever he said would have been blown out of proporation and the headlines would say "Chris Brown Curses out and Threatens to STab Adele."
Wow. Dude can't even go to the Grammys with his girl without people losing their minds. BTW, Chris and Rihanna looked like a super couple leaning into each other last night.
The incident was 4 years ago I wish this nosy, intrusive woman would move on.

Agree.
She does not know the full story so why is she going up in his face?
So what he didnt stand for Frank, what does that have to do with her?
It just seems like people are just picking on Chris.
BUT ONCE AGAIN....
Chris brings it upon himself.
Now if he had verbally retaliated to Adele, I think he would have been within his right to because SHE instigated it and I think it was ignorant what she did.
You dont just come up in someone's face insulting someone based on your own preconceived notion:- , who the hell are you?
I think he should have said something, I like Adele but Adele was out of line.

This could be true. I was sort of thinking along these lines:

^^ That is a great article. Yes, not only the performances but the SPEECHES were awkward and hard to watch.
He simply did not rise to the occasion. He keeps missing the moment. There's something psychological goign on, but he'll work through it.
I disagree with the writer's view that "forest gump" is no one's fav song from the album. It's mine! And I know a lot of peeps who like that song very much.
I do think "Lost" would have been KILLER and should have been released as a single a loonnng time ago. I also love "Crack Rock" and yeah, that would have been better received as well.
Who is advising him? Tyler?

I think there's something to the theory that he thinks he's big enough. He definitely has confidence in his talent if you read any interview. If he really cared about how his live performances on TV were percieved he probably would've improved by now. He seems to be missing that crucuial gene that responds to public perceptions. Call it the Lana Del Ray Principle.

I didn't think it was true in the first place. Nobody knew what they were talking about. Yet the media took it upon themselves to interject their own bs.
I'm not a Chris Brown fan by any stretch of the imagination but damn, the media really needs to stop instigating. That man has enough problems of his own. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Where is any of that coming from? Who has said it? What facts do you have to back it up? Because nobody I know feels that way. In short, that's YOUR baggage. That's what you put on him. And how the hell is not making an album for six years doing "anything to remain uber-popular"?
What hype? The last few weeks since his album was announced? Again, dude has been gone from music for at least four years. He's also been making and releasing music longer than Robin Thicke. And in case you (and others) missed it, people in the music business actually, ya know, LIKE him.
Also, here's a picture of Robin Thicke from the time of his first album before some urban contemporary, R&B stylist associated with Interscope Records and Pharrell Williams got ahold of him and cleaned him up so they could move some units.
You're welcome.
People gonna hate. But hate intelligently, please.

"Monitor problems" have been used as an excuse for as long as people have been using monitors, be they on stage or in-ear. Sorry Frank, not buying it. There was nothing so loud during that performance that dude couldn't have just listened to himself and known it was bad.
Edit: Also, that piece reads like somebody writing to try and cover Frank's ass. Like whole parts of it were submitted, or at least approved, by his management and PR people.

^ I agree on Justin... Justin has always been a "industry darling" but one thing I will say... he never has been the type to overexpose himself. He knows when to lie low and understands the art of anticipation. I think what irritates people most about Justin is he is a wanna be, punk and he tries to hard. His very contrived.
Not a fan but am I the only one that finds Frank to be really cute?
I like his indie style as well
Question?
How is Frank awkward?
I gather that he is shy but that doesnt mean his awkward.
I havent kept up with his performances or tv appearances. I have only seen his first snl one and I didnt even watch the grammys.
Did he say something awkward during his acceptance speech?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Frank was awful on SNL and on the Grammys he needs to learn how to sell it. He doesn't project energy, he sucks it in. He should look to Reba or Streisand for inspiration, those ladies can stand still and command a stage.
As for Justin Timberlake or as B introduced him as the man "born to make music,"HAHAHA. Next thing you know his PR team is going to call him the king of pop!
I was bored with the songs from JT, but a great performance though. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment
