You'd be surprised to know that many artists know less about their music than fans do... at least the non important stuff like release dates and on which album certain songs are. Especially when it's years and years ago. He was recording constantly in the 70s and it's not really that important on which album a song was released when you released a new album almost every year. And yes, he certainly was under the influence. That was shortly before he stopped the Dangerous tour and went into rehab.

That is true, janet made a couple of mistakes too in interviews over the years as well...and in mj's case he had pain issues and lupus so I'm sure he was foggy and felt fatigue often though he performed anyway.

Agreed. I'd be surprised if Prince actually remembered how many albums he released during the 90s or what year Parade was released, etc. From the books I've read about MJ I learned that ever since he was a kid often times he had to learn & record multiple songs A DAY when he was with Motown. And of course he spent his entire life meeting different people every single day constantly writing new songs or being on tour there's no way he can remember little details like which album Blues Away belongs to (and Thriller might as well have been released in 1983 anyway, I even saw some so-called music journalists saying Thriller was from '83 lol). And yes I also heard he was under the influence of lots of pain killers at the time and on top of that I believe this particular deposition took place on Nov.8, '93 and just a day before he'd performed at a stadium in Mexico. He must've been exhausted and stressed to death T_T

This is not normal forgetfulness ... don`t agree.

Oh, and you're the judge of that?? Artists usually are not that obsessed with their own work, once they are done creating it and it's released, like fans are. Usally after an album is released, the only exposure with their earlier works is performing them live and that's about it. An artist doesn't go home to listen to his own album for days and months and years like fans do.

So Michael said, Thriller was released in '83?? Wow, big whoop. It was released in December of '82 and he spent '83 promoting it, reaping the accolades and shooting videos for it.

His Bad era lasted from '86 until '89. So somewhere in that time the album dropped. And why should he keep tabs on how many albums he released? Overall his albums are in the 2 digits. Also do you count compilations as well? Those are things fans are interested in, but not really the artists.

So he said "Blues away" was from Going places or Destiny, some 17 years after he recorded that song, wow, how could he? It's not like the early Gamble/Huff Jackson albums were blockbuster albums... it was their usual 1 album per year, with little input of the brothers. It was only later on that they began being more in charge, so it makes sense that he thought that "Blues away", a song he wrote, was on one of the later albums. And it's not like his guess was decades away. He was off by a year.

sooooo strange
Michael is clearly under the influence of something, he could not remember:
- On what the album came out "Blues away" (he thought 'Going places' or 'Destiny'')
- How many solo albums and what he recorded for Motown
- In which year he released Off the Wall
- Said that Thriller was released in 1983
- In which year he released Bad (the album, which was released 5 years ago)
- Сonfuse the names of songs
etc.
God, the guy had less knowledge about his work than any ordinary music lover. eek
clearly something is not right (not only at the moment), some memory loss ... or is it just a line of defense - pretend. I hope so. wink

but he spoke in detail how he writes songs ...genius

You know, I feel for Michael on this one. I am also VERY bad with dates. If you asked me when I graduated from highschool, did this or that job, I would not know the exact years or dates. I can understand that. Or names. I am very bad at remember people and names. He also seems to have problems recalling people's names. When you watch the MTV interview, he has hard times remembering names of directors of some of his biggest hits (Billie Jean etc.)

dates? only dates? and what about the fact that he did not remember the names of his companies and did not know whether they exist in reality so far? he has a bad memory about his business, too? confused But what about the fact that only simple logic is enough to answer the question "whether it was after moving from Gary or before?" he moved from Gary, when he was a kid ... this is normal, do not remember these facts?
I do not want to argue with you, guys, anymore ... I renounce many times not to argue with his huge fans, but again fall into this trap, you always justify him...always ... you will find a million reasons why his shape/look/behavior can be called normal and do it.

why can not you just admit the problem?
it does not make him any less brilliant artist or his music less great

ps. if people around Michael did not encourage his strangeness, and recruited courage and told him "stop" at least sometimes .... he still would have been with us ... just my opinion.

I don't think it matters if MJ knew all of the dates and songs of each album, it isn't a big deal. I mean I know all of that stuff for most of the musicians I like. But for example, I make short films and I couldn't tell you when I made each of them, especially my first ones. I bet MJ probably knew more about other musicians he liked, because I doubt he listened to his own music all the time. Even if he did, I don't think trivial things like that matter much.

I'm not good with dates either. I only know my brother's and my own birthday, I don't know any of my best friends' birthdays nor my parents nor anyone else, and I only know my brother's cause we are both in August. I don't like thinking I'm self-centered for that, I'm just not good with dates! lol

What is it you're referring to that his huge fans apparently need to admit lol? I'm still a bit confused so could you make it more clear what you think the problem is here? In your previous post (reply #262) you said you think it's either signs of memory loss (sounds all serious but me and others already mentioned he was under the influence of pain killers so it's possible that could've affected his sobriety a little, but at the same time he definitely doesn't look or sound too out of it. I know for a fact being physically exhausted or feeling pressured affects one's memory too) OR he was only pretending he couldn't remember those things for whatever reason - Which makes zero sense to me because when you think about it the lawsuit was about copyright infringement and plagiarism regarding songs he wrote and co-wrote..it was crucial for him to answer those questions as throughly and honestly as possible, so if anything not being able to remember certain things & dates correctly wouldn't have been helpful at all...I just don't see why he would give false answers saying he doesn't remember on purpose you know? Unless you're saying he pretended to be like that because he's just...weird like that. I mean if that's what you're trying to say I have nothing to say to you anymore so we can all just move on I guess lol

And let me just add it's not like as a fan I don't know or refuse to think he can be quite weird when it comes to certain things. I just simply dont think that is the right excuse in this case, there's honestly nothing weird about him getting little things like album names mixed up and for the big things you obviously think he should remember you can blame pain killers & stress that's all I'm saying wink

Michael Jackson inducted into the Dance Heritage Coalition

(17-12-2012) Founded in 1992, the Dance Heritage Coalition (DHC) is the sole national non-profit organization in the USA dedicated to documenting, preserving, and creating access to materials documenting America’s dance legacy. Since 1999 the list of “America’s Irreplaceable Dance Treasures” included 100 dancers. Noone had been added to the list since....until last week. Michael Jackson was among new 12 honorees.

The other honorees include: Jacques d’Amboise, Jane Dudley, Garth ***an, Frederic Franklin, Loie Fuller, Carmen de Lavallade, John Martin, Sophie Maslow, Daniel Nagrin, The Rockettes, and Maria Tallchief.

They were nominated by a national survey and vote in 2012. The original intention was to add 10 new Treasures to the original 100. However, in recognition of extremely close voting and in honor of the year 2012, it was decided to bring the number up to 12. Afterwards the nominees were confirmed by the Dance Heritage Coalition (DHC) Board of Directors. The 12 figures are celebrated online along with the initial list of 100 in an Online Exhibition of Dance Treasures.

The list of “America's Irreplaceable Dance Treasures” encompasses individuals, organizations, and dance styles, and is intended to heighten public interest in the magnificence and richness of America's dance heritage and the imperative to document and preserve it for future generations. “America’s Irreplaceable Dance Treasures: The First 100” was created by the DHC in 1999 from nominations submitted nationwide and vetted by a panel of experts; the Treasures formed the basis of the DHC’s traveling exhibition, which visited seven locations from 2004 to 2009. With the closing of the touring exhibit in 2009, the commemorative materials have been expanded and collected on the DHC’s website. A separate webpage is devoted to each of the Treasures, with essays, resource lists and curated visual materials. New pages for the 12 latest honorees have now been added to the online exhibition, which was launched in July 2012.

Michael Jackson's entry in the press release pf the DHC reads as follows:

Michael Jackson - The pop star who created the best-selling album of all time (“Thriller”), he has long been recognized as an exceptional dancer who combined elements from various vernacular dance styles to create a signature vocabulary and stage persona; his choreographed music videos broke ground in the development of this form.

More info about the Dance Heritage Coalition
Dance comprises an entire world of spiritual and secular ideas, stories, emotions, and human experience, understood and expressed through movement. The rich history of dance in America serves as a reflection and a record of the nation's increasingly diverse, dynamic culture.
In the Fall of 1999, the Dance Heritage Coalition solicited nominations for America's Irreplaceable Dance Treasures: the First 100. Over 900 nominations from across the full range of American dance artistry, forms, and traditions were submitted and vetted through a three-stage process of selection committees made up of experts from across the country.
The list of America's Irreplaceable Dance Treasures: the First 100 is intended to heighten public interest in the magnificence and richness of America's dance heritage and the imperative to document and preserve it for future generations.

An irreplaceable dance treasure has:

- Made a significant impact on dance as an art form
- Demonstrated artistic excellence
- Enriched the nation's cultural heritage
- Demonstrated the potential to enhance the lives of future generations
- Shown itself worthy of national and international recognition

most of the inductees are ballet dancers & theatre dancers along with famous names like Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, & Bob Fosse. it seems like Michael is the only music artist inducted

Although it's nice hearing things like this, why couldn't have been inducted much earlier? It's michael fucking jackson!

On the other hand, what amazed me about that deposition was that he was able to remember EXACTLY the way the song came to his head. That's kinda fascinating. As far as the songwriting process, he was able to remember it in such details, it's unbelievable.

Well, trained dancers, especially classical, very wary about modern dancers.
+ James Brown is dead, but it is not included in the Dance Heritage Coalition or the National Museum of Dance and Hall of Fame.
I think that MJ first dancer without choreographic education, who has such an honor in the dance world.
I have a great encyclopedia of 2008, "100 greatest dancers ever" ... Michael is there.
and incorrect comparison with Donna. MJ inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice and many years ago .... and Songwriters Hall of Fame, too (we all know one wonderful songwriter, much more prolific, who has not that honor) ....
regard to the Halls of Fame .... MJ certainly not underrated ... never was.

Madonna leads Billboard's top-grossing tours

While this year's pop charts have been dominated by young singers, it is veteran music stars, led by Madonna, who are commanding big money in tour ticket sales, according to a new Billboard list released on Tuesday.

Madonna, 54, topped Billboard's list of highest-grossing live tours, earning an estimated $228.4 million in ticket sales from her sold-out ninth worldwide tour in support of her 12th studio album"MDNA."

Madonna came ahead of pop star Lady Gaga, who landed at No. 6, with ticket sales of $124.9 million from her worldwide "Born This Way Ball" tour. Gaga, 26, is currently midway through her tour, which kicked off in South Korea in April, and will wrap in Oklahoma in March 2013.

Music publication Billboard compiled its list through estimated gross ticket sales figures from Billboard box scores, which tracks concert tours, ticket prices and sales.

The top five highest-grossing tour acts of 2012 included Bruce Springsteen, 63, and the E Street band at No. 2 with $199 million from 72 shows and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, 69, at No. 3 with $186 million.

Cirque Du Soleil's homage to late singer Michael Jackson in "The Immortal World Tour" ranked No. 4 with $147.3 million over 183 shows, and British rock band Coldplay was fifth with $147.2 million over 67 shows.

There's that famous pic of Michael with that mime (Marcel someone, I forgot his name) taken allegedly from footage of one particular rehearsal. This was a week before he went to the hospital.

On the other hand, what amazed me about that deposition was that he was able to remember EXACTLY the way the song came to his head. That's kinda fascinating. As far as the songwriting process, he was able to remember it in such details, it's unbelievable.

That just proves my point that sometimes creative people don't remember everything but you bring up something that's artistic and all of a sudden they can tell you what went with the song, what inspired it, what got him to do that vocal spot there...

Lisa was at her prettiest when she was with Michael. Even her look was classy after that she went straight to trash.

Actually, she looked quite good after that while still trying to get back to him. She did that Vogue cover where she looked great. She started to look bad once she released her first album. I like her style now for Storm and Grace. I think she has finally found herself.

"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Yeah she looked happy and all girly when she was with him and after 1997,98 it's like... she didn't care to look pretty anymore. Oh and she always looks really agitated too. I'm sure she has many great qualities and they have a lot in common but ugh not a fan of them as a couple lol

I think they were great as a "married" couple, but not as a "divorced" couple. If you know what I mean. In the beginning they both looked happy and relaxed, when it was starting to go downhill, Lisa especially was not handling it well, at least publically. Michael may have been doing whatever, but unlike her he was doing it privately.
