To an extent they are right..... I do believe currently Janet is very underrated. Everybody is entitled to their opinion...... but its very insulting and just straight haterade how they dog Michael TALENT wise to make Janet more superior. I know they are fans but they allow their fandom to blind their ability to be objective and rational when it comes to Janet.

1) Janet is an international star

2) The public have always said Janet is the normal Jackson. But the only people who are obsessing over that, are MJ fans. But in reality and in comparison, she is normal compared to Michael.

3) Paula was with Janet for like a year or two, Janet's career has spanned decades. Therefore the use of the world 'alot' is false. Tina is behind alot of Janets iconic choreography.

4) 'Control' did pioneer New Jack Swing. But ofcourse you will never accept that, as MJ with help from Teddy Riley later created their own New Jack Swing album.

5) Every fan base makes malicious comments about various artists, MJ's fans can sometimes be the worse. I saw MJ fans bullying and sending death threats to a 14 year old girl after getting permission from Paris. I don't know why you are acting as if you're surprised it happens.

6) Janet fans believe TMZ? That's funny, considering MJ fans have recently been beleiving every word that TMZ has spued against Janet.

7) If you actually open your eyes, you would realise that majority of Janet fans think of MJ highly (in terms of talent anyway) and site him as their favourite artist following Janet.

8) It actually seems like many MJ fans are threatened by Janet's success, and the fact her quality of music is equal or arguably higher.

9) You can't 'know' that someone is more talented, better at dancing, better at singing and better concerts. You are just reaching and chatting rubbish now. It's all about perspective and opinion. And in my opinion Janet is not more talented, nor better at dancing or singing. But I consider her creativity, quality of music to be of equal standard as MJ's, if not higher. Also her 'TVR' tour is the best tour out of both of them.

I can't speak for others, but I have always been and will ALWAYS be a big Michael Jackson fan, but no one is jealous in terms of comparing him with Janet, boo. She is in no one's shadow. She worked hard to get to a level that not only most of her siblings never attained, but also a lot of artists in general never get to. Also, you should probably read a little more. Many a music critic have cited "Control" and "Rhythm Nation" as the albums that were the nucleus for New Jack Swing.

Did Janet get inspiration from Michael? Sure. Was he inspired by some of her work? You bet your ass. He went on record several times about his love for Janet's song "The Knowledge", and he even used to rehearse his dancing to it. And, I'm sure that it's no coincidence that Michael's car window-smashing segment at the end of "Black or White" is more than similar to Janet's window smashing, dance-heavy clip for "The Knowledge" which preceded it, or that he went slinky and sexy with the Herb Ritts-directed "In The Closet" when his sister did it previously in "Love Will Never Do (Without You)".

Yes, sometimes I think that the music of Michael is a little soulless, despite the emotional lyrics, but he was the soloist in the group as well, in the 11-12 years he had more soul than many artists could even dream of.
Michael had his musical style .... a mix r.n.b / pop mostly, he had his vocal style, he had his dance style ... yes, some people believe that it was monotonous since the 80's, but it is his way, everyone in the world knows how sing Jackson, dance Jackson, etc. + MJ wrote the music and lyrics to many of his songs. He's not the greatest songwriter ever, and not even one of the greatest, but he was good, it makes his music a priori to a higher position than his colleagues in pop music. imho

And he has a Grammy in 3 different styles of music: pop, rock, r n b. He not only used different styles, he had worldwide success in them, too.
I do not like to compare Michael and Janet, because:
1) Michael wins on all counts, so it`s not even fair;
2) I like Michael (he is about number 4 or 5 in the list of my favorite artists EVER) and I am not a fan of Janet, so this comparison is meaningless to me, though I try to be fair and impartial.

And? Janet is the only artist in history to be nominated in every major Grammy category (Rap, Pop, RnB, Rock and Dance). She has awards in two of those categories.

I remember her being very popular in the 90's outside North America, I don't think anyone is denying that and I would say international star too back then, but her popularity went down since All For You, and a part of this is cause of more promo in North America and Japan, and getting rid of her All for You tourdates in Europe which led to backlash among fans. After superbowl, she could have taken advantage of worldwide fame to support the tour that didn't happen and kept getting pushed back to newer eras, but Damita Jo only did well in the US and in Europe from what I recall, all they were doing was asking her about michael's case and her family over there, no one cared about the music out there, it's a miracle she got urban support in the US. Sure number ones did really well, but in smaller arenas, which is very different from a stadium that she can no longer sell out.
