Does anyone else thinks this kind of honor is rather too soon?

I mean, there are many other MTV legends that have yet to be honor (Culture Club, Cyndi Lauper, Paula Abdul, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and so forth....). But yet, ViaCON wants to go forward to honor an artist who music career in only a decade deep.

Well if they are going to give Beyonce international awards and millenium awards then this should not be surprising..... It seems this generation seems to be more fixated on having an Icon and legend RATHER than giving props to the REAL legends that paved the way for these sorry lowlife artists.

Similar to the Aaliyah tribute thread of a couple weeks back, MTV/ViaCom are creating tributes to honor "legends" as they currently define it to their demographic. In the pop landscape of today, she represents the elder in a field of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and others.

Their demographic wouldn't even give two thoughts to those artists you mention. It is unfortunate, but some of the original acts on MTV will never get their just due. Since this is MTV's 30th, they should have made the tribute segment out to be like how the Grammy's did when they meshed the old with the new back in 2004 (think Beyonce and Prince) to create a link to the past and the future.

About the same age MJ was when the MTV awards gave him a tribute, what a shame. I hope they don't name the award after her or something. At least Janet got a whole tribute show dedicated to her.

Maybe. But the current demographic can definitely use the music history lesson.

Honestly though it isn't this generation's fault. It's actually the older fucks who run these committees and issue these awards that are to blame. They're the ones trying to give lifetime achievement awards to artists that have been around like 5-10 years.

She is pretty important to video, or video was pretty important to her career. Let other people get awards elsewhere. Brit can take her VMA

Britney hasn't made a good video in 6 years though. MJ, Janet and Madonna's video catalog have been consistent for two decades.

I don't see whys he should be honored at leat yet, i can name a handfeul of people who are yet to be honored. I feel like people are doing things for britney out of sympathy, let's be real she hasn't been the same since 2006, her dancing is uninspiring and sluggish now, she looks like she half asses her performance and i dont' see the passion in her aaymore.

Me neither the same thing when the AMA's gave Beyonce the international award and she is the ONLY female singer to have gotten and MJ, Bee Gees and I believe Rolling Stones have received that award...

You mean to tell me they could not have given that award to ARETHA FRANKLIN, Madonna, Celine, Mariah, Janet or Whitney????? neutral Like seriously... What the fuck is going on?

I take NONEEEEEEEEEEEEE of these awards seriously anymore... They are ALL a joke... and I am sure the old head singers HAVE to feel the same way.. they just have to

I just dont understand it.. How are the YOUNGER generation going to know about the REAL LEGENDS and Icons that paved the way for these copy cats if they DONT honor them??? Its a real shame. 20 years ago the commercial machine did a much better job in honoring the past... I dont know what is going on in this generation. They seem to care more about money and ratings because it aint no way in hell Brittany Spears should be honored for shit the same with Beyonce.. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE to be honored neutral

VERY stupid.

I am not sure how it works specifically but like someone said... I think the artist has to pay for that and has to show up at the ceremony something like that not sure.

See, this is why I can't watch award shows these days (besides the fact that they're boring as hell, now). I just can't take the nomination and awarding processes seriously.

Honey, stop talking and just create the music.

nod That's what I believe most of these awards shows decisions are governed by, ratings and money. They don't give two damns about credibility. They're thinking, "Who can we use that's popular enough to bring in the ratings for our show?"

Honor Britney?

I mean, for real??

hmm

Oh and about that video, .. I only see Prince, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and Madonna references... Does that mean Britney doesn't have her own style??

Maybe that should mean those written above should be honored instead.

Ok, 10 years is a lot in today's consommation world and easy come easy go stars.. but still... honored... Do they feel she's gonna die of drug abuse anytime soon?

hmm

Well, good for her cool

[Edited 8/12/11 11:24am]

Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.
