Lady Gaga Backlash In 5...4...3...

Lady Gaga New Song ‘Born This Way’ Criticized by Latinos for Having Racist Lyrics

Pop icon Lady Gaga can’t seem to catch a break with her recently released song “Born This Way”. First she was accused of sounding too much like Christina Aguilera’s in “Beautiful” and then of borrowing the idea and lyrics from Carl Bean’s “Born this Way” and now some Arizona Latino groups are chiming in with their opinion.

Organizations like Chicanos Unidos Arizona and MEChA do not like Lady Gaga’s use of the words ‘Chola’ and ‘Orient’ in her lyrics, viewing both as being racist and derogatory.

The word chola according to the critics refers to Latina girls in gangs, Latinas from the barrio who have a certain look about them and conjure very negative stereotypes. Lady Gaga use of this term in the song is sure to promote already negative Hispanic stereotypes, according to these organizations.

The song is set to release on February 13 and be performed at the Grammys, which may bring out more protests. Lady Gaga has not responded to the Latino organizations and their racist-lyrics criticism, however she did post on her Twitter about the song “It has been in my heart for over a year. I’m so excited to share it .” So changes to lyrics are unlikely. source

After reading the lyrics the other day I'm not surprised that she'd be called out on them.

Let me comment on this: I think we should all just wait until the song comes out before we pass judgement. I understand the concern over the lyrics..but all this heat over a song no one has heard yet!! I'm very curious as to how this song will pan out, so we'll se..

Blame it on Stefani, she released the lyrics herself lol

So if something was going to go down either to benefit her or to hurt her, it was mainly her doing.

I'm gonna avoid this issue though until the 13th. People are already deciding it as either a genius move or a dumbass move.

I saw that too. That's when I just shook my head. That's an insult too. The hell you gonna compare a pop star to punk legends like the Ramones or Nirvana or Zappa? Makes no sense.

Whats the point though, i mean the shelf life for a pop song is about what 2 months at best, its disposable pop here and gone, let it come out do its thing and then move on, Its like Carlin said when he did the "Did Jesus bring the Pork Chops" book cover and put himself in place of Jesus at the LAst supper, and walmart and others banned the book he said "thanks the more you say something is bad the more people will want it, thanks for the free promotion"

Yeah and to be honest any attention given to it is only adding to her "promotion" meaning it's guaranteed to sell even if it's "bad".

well its going to sell regardless just based on the first album, thats why "Around the World in a Day" by Prince still sold, it was the PR wave, he could have put out any shit at that time. The GaGa backlash is just the natural progression, Beyonce has had it, Alicia Keys got it somewhat, we know the Bee Gees got their ass kicked around and damn look at the Beatles, burning records in the south, i mean you will never see that kind of protesting today, artists dont know how "free" they are now compared to then. People in the "bible belt" still think Lennon is satan for his words of TRUTH

All this drama and the song hasn't even released yet. Honestly, controversy is part of being a star. It will only add some spice into her fame.... these bumps comes and go for pop stars. If anything, it gives the song more attention.

I would've overlooked the song, but now that we've read the lyrics, and the lyrics caught attention... I think this may all be part of the built up hype for the song.

One reason the beatles STOPPED touring was not because they were tired of the mania so much, it was that at one show George Martin was watching the show from a hill and saw how close someone could get (sniper wise) and pick one of them off with no problems, and then with the backlash when they started to get into more "heady" music, shit, my ass would have been in the studio just like they were. As for John said, he was 100% right, i mean i would go on record today as saying that "facebook" is more important to kids than jesus and no one in their right mind would disagree or challenge it, back then you had Klan members in the south being interviewed on Channel 7 yes channel 7 saying that if the Beatles came their they would be sorry! Next time i hear someone like Chris Brown cry for the way he feels he has been mistreated he should have to watch some Beatles tapes.

I definitely gotta back Lady Gaga here. It seems like every group has their own lobby and any little thing that they can whine about they do. People need to relax a bit and dig the stick out of their behinds.

If these groups are so offended by the negative portrayals of their people why don't they do something concrete to help them rather than cry about the lyrics in a silly pop song?

Yeah that's why I'm kinda like "why are they even doing this?" I'm not shocked it happened though because it happens all the time. Yet no one wants to do anything about it. It's like "become the complaint generation" not be the "problem solver generation". Then they ask why we keep having problems in our world.

^ A lot of pop stars go through this. It's no biggie in the long run. Remember when everyone called J.Lo a racist because she used the N word in some song with Ja Rule? It doesn't matter nor did it stop her career because of it.

I think that's the whole point. To have people talk about it.. good or bad. It would be worse if it was ignored completely.

Gaga is a MASSIVE con- courtesy of failing major labels- so much so that David Bowie, Grace Jones, Roisin Murphy, Kerli and others have all publicly told her to go f* herself.

She's also dipped and ripped the Prince/Time/MPLS camp too. A bunch of press- a couple interviews with Monte Moir (The Time) talking about this in their photos section here:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/LOLLY-POP-HAS-BEEN-KNICKED-BY-LADY-GAGA/193015918994

Instead of pretending to be so "original" she should just call herself a cultural remixer or music hacker something trendy like that so she could actually get away with it and still be in good standing. The bitch clearly has some mad skills, but she needs to stop ripping everybody off and find HERSELF.

Gaga never claimed to be "original" and an "innovator" . It seems like that's what the MEDIA calls her. Gaga has always let her music speak for her. Yeah I've seen a lot of outfits from Gaga that was clearly inspired by artists like Grace Jones, but Gaga never said "I created this style"

Actually Gaga has/does or at least her publicist does so on her behalf. Saying things like "the world's first meta celebrity (which we all know was Ana Voog, another extension of the Prince fam)", "world's first electro-pop-opera (described Lolly Pop in 2006)".

Besides bigger names that've called Gaga out, Ana pioneered TONS of online performance art that Gaga takes or is given credit for. Ana was written about in Billboard and Time magazine, is well documented. Here's a video Ana made in the late 1990's:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KytB50NrsLM

And here's Ana live on VIBE in 1998:

http://www.youtube.com/user/fetik3#p/u/0/lzAmCsncezI

Pop vs Gaga: according to Press, Pop was friends with Gaga remixer Trevor Simpson and Gaga, before she was "Gaga", showed up at an 18+ show in NYC when she and Monte Moir toured. Parallels are sickening: Lolly Pop and Lady Gaga were both fictitious, over-the-top charectures with nearly identical fashion sense, who moved with Voguing entourages (Lolly had the Couture Club, Gaga has the Haus, both clearly Madonna fans), who crusaded to popularize Electropop and GLBT rights. Monte talks about this on the record here:

Well its the "thing" to focus on right now, in a few days when the Rihanna S&M Video debuts and people see her in a video with a whip with reporters tied to chairs and her sitting on them etc....that will be the thing to jump on, personally to me, all this stuff that happens now is because of what was born years ago, HOWEVER to me, if you use sex, drama, and things like that in the media to gain attention DONT CRY when u get used by that same media, thats all im saying, to me i have no problem with Rihanna sexing it up because from day one i knew what she was, a sex object, plain and simple. So i was just like, well come on already turn it up

But isn't Lady Gaga suppose to be the Madonna of her generation? I mean, Madonna's career has lasted 3 decades. And Gaga was suppose to carry the torch, right?

Yeah but so was Britney at one point. To be honest, that's the worst position to be in: the heir apparent of someone else. That's what the media does now, create heir apparents. Gaga's seem to be the heir apparent of a WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE least image/fashion-wise.

Not that I'm a boy, but um, Rhianna's always made me hot. F* LG, especially after this crap with Pop and everybody else she's siphoned, swagger jacked etc.

It's because of Rhianna taking risks that Electro-Pop became acceptable again in Pop music. Who sampled Soft Cell's Tainted Love for her first cross over hit? Rhi Rhi! Plus Rhi Rhi showed out at the Grammys with The Time. And whoa, I've been a convert ever since. Just saying!
