She's been backing up the LGBT community from the start of her career. Her earlier performances were done in gay clubs as well as one done at SF Pride. During her Monsterball tour she has been donating to LGBT youth I could list plenty of other things she has done but all I'm trying to get at is she may not always be eloquent but she has always supported the LGBT community.
