My gosh, who would think that a simple thread titled "Beyonce or Alica Keys" could provoke such anger and outright nastiness. I thought that I was going "safe" with this thread. If I wanted to watch a drama fight I woulda posted a thread about Prince's sexuality, or about Michael's plastic surgery. LOL I didn't think that this thread would have become explosive.

Vocalist: Beyonce's the clear winner. Alicia has limited range and tends to strain. With that being said, however, Mrs. Beatz's sound is more soulful.

Dancing & Entertainment: Beyonce. I don't think I really have to get into it.

Writing: Alicia times two. The bulk of Beyonce's material is extremely shallow and overrated. A part of the big draw to Alicia from day one was how she came across lyrically. To a lot of people she seemed like an old soul in a 20-21 year old's body. And while none of it was groundbreaking you could see that she had something a little different to offer. I think as she ages she'll only get more mature.

Instrumentalist: Alicia. I don't think I really have to get into it.

Both of them have their strongpoints but I'll say this...If Beyonce someday decided to add more substance to her material she'd basically be the total package. Learning to play an instrument and advancing your writing skills is a lot easier than learning to become a better singer and performer. Training or no training, artists are born with the voices they have. And some are just naturally more gifted in that department. Stage presence, same thing. You don't have to have a voice at all to own the stage. And I'm not talking about being the greatest dancer. Presence is a certain spirit, star quality that some entertainers have and some don't. From a technical standpoint, Christina is a better vocalist than Beyonce and Ciara's a better dancer. BUT, she's got a certain appeal that they lack.

Mrs. Z is young, she's not even 30 yet. As she gets older, settles down, maybe have some baby camels her work will most likely grow as well because her life experiences will change. It's only natural. You can't be Single Lady-ing it for all eternity. So, you know, in my personal opinion, I like them both. If you ask me today who'll possess the better discography years from now I'd probably go with Alicia but if somethin hits Beyonce internally it has the potential to be amazing.

Beyonce definitely has time to grow as an artists, but she will "lose" some things as time passes. She will have to rely less on the booty shaking and the grinding onstage, and more on her raw talent. When artists get older (particularly female artists) they start to become desperate and if there is no reall substance behind their talent, then off the clothes go, and a Playboy centerfold is on it's way. When all else fails...take more clothes off. We don't need another "nipple-gate". As Beyonce ages, perhaps that irritating vocal register that she sings in will get a little lower and mature.

Alica can defintely grow musically. And she can chose "how" to use her vocal instrument. Personally I also think Alicia sings at a register that is probably at the very upper limits of her range. Perhaps she should lower it a little more, and she won't be straining as much.

With ALL due respect, have you heard any Beyoncé song, album, or seen any performance since the Safely in Love era? neutral

I really can't remember the name of Beyonce's last album, but I know that I have watched some recent performances on television. Beyonce is really not one of the artists that I personally would go and pick up a CD for, so I really have not kept track of the names of her albums / CDs.

The camel-toe queen. Check out that quick shot at about 1:37. I'm soo tired of being forced to look at beyonce's crotch I just don't know what to do. That "All the Single Ladies" video was a freggin atrocious. I wanted to smack Kayne upside his head for jumping on the stage talking about that video should have won. I'm not saying Taylor's should have but "damn" if All the Single Ladies should have won. I sense a Playboy centerfold coming in the near future. Obviously this video was "supposed" to look tacky and retro, along with the retro percussions but it wasn't even a good song. "I got class, I got style, and I got ass". Whoa.

90% of what Beyonce does, careerwise, nowadays is tacky to me. Unfortunately, everything Alicia is doing now is tacky in the personal sense, but at least I'm lovin' her latest song. And yes, 'Single Ladies' is the biggest waste of perfectly good film to ever be unleashed on the ears and eyes of the public. That song still doesn't make any damn sense to me, but neither do most of her songs so shrug Beyonce likes to sing mindless drivel and people eat it up for some oddball reason. Laughed my ass off at her dusting her undeserved 11 Grammys...yeah, I said it, 'UNDESERVED'. She should give them back because 'Single Ladies' damn sure wasn't no Grammy worthy material. hmph!

Well, that I'll give you. Its pretty damn good.

As for this contest, I don't like either of them enough to care. Both are talented in their own right but Alicia was WAYYY over-hyped out of the gate.
Beyonce is a better singer and entertainer but her material is for-the-moment only and Alicia is boring but obviously a musician and a songwriter. Its apples and oranges, actually.
I'm not paying for tickets to either of their shows, although I have seen videos of them both and I think Beyoncé's show is better.

Ok I just gotta say this one thing to the folks who say that Alicia Keys is boring. It's awefully challenging (but not impossible) to "dominate" a stage when you are seated stationary at a piano singing. Alicia would have to have the playing skills of Bach and like the voice of Jill Scott to really be all that exciting and dynamic given her particular craft. Can't compare her to Stevie because he's a genius and it's just not fair.

Beyonce is far more entertaining and talented.

Vocals - Beyonce (Though she lacks soul. She's technically a great singer)
Entertainment- Beyonce (she knows how to entertain. Her one night in Vegas show proves this)
Writing - Alicia (because she actually writes and doesn't purchase her music lol)
Music - Beyonce's more fun, I guess
Overall talent- Beyonce

Who do you guys think has more talent, Beyonce or Alicia Keys? I feel that Beyonce can definitly sing. Some do not like her 1st alto sound, but she manipulates and controls her voice very well, and she knows her notes. The only thing about Beyonce is that in my opinion she has released a bunch of crap over the last few years, and I feel that she is only still in the game based on her sex appeal. Beyonce is a complete package of voice, beauty (sexuality), and dance. Alicia Keys on the other hand just reminds me of sheer classic talent. Like a Patrice Rushen. She's a real musician and I appreciate that, I have a particular fondness for pianists. I think her songwriting ability will continue to get stronger as she matures and experiences life more. I think that there are no gimmicks, "sex sells tricks" or anything of the sort when it comes to Alicia, just raw talent. When Alicia first came on the scenes "they" kinda had her looking like a cyborg of sorts with one side of her head being braided and the otherside being straight. She was never really "polished" in terms of interviewing skills and conversational diction. She mentioned that she did not want her "looks" to interfere with the appreciation of her talent. I love material by both women. When Beyonce's booty shaking and half nakedness nursery rhyme song sound gets on my nerves, I turn to Alicia Keys. When I need a little more eye candy, I go back to Beyonce. One small thing that I observed about Alicia is that vocally she is not always on key and when it comes to songs where there is an impromptu performance. Sometimes she has to like "find her way" ie. Clive Davis's appreciation gig. I think it was halfway through the song that they were all singing before Alicia actually sang in the right key and found her pitch. Besides a bit of raspiness, most other times she's pretty polished.

Beyonce steps on Tina Turner's toe while performing Proud Mary and then acts like it never happened. Beyonce is known for falling, and watching people that she's singing with fall and then pretending like it never happened and going on with the singing. In this instance she should have at least yelled "sorry Tina" or something in between verses. It must have really hurt Tina for her to look down at her toe while in the middle of a performance in the middle of the stage at the Grammys.
