i have one jill scott song and i dont think shes very good at low notes she sort of does it through a wannabe ella fitzgerald fat albert sort of thing

but neither can beyonce..her voice keeps disappearing and gets nasaly when she trys to do low notes and gets really scratchy when she does high notes,i particularly noticed this when listening to the 'ego' song by beyonce at a cousins house. for a straight minuite or so she does this vocal solo after she says something like ''ill just sing with the piano'' where every note she trys to hit..she doesnt hit..it was just embaressing

jill is the better singer of the two though

quite frankly nina simone royally kicks both of thier asses when it comes to really low notes

which is incredibly hard for a woman which is why i respect her talent much more

Heck not that many present day artists can scat well. Well maybe Rachel Ferrel but not too many other people. Outside of scatting, I think Jill Scott has it all. She is so varied in her musical abilities. She's hell of creative, she sings unbelievably so good that sometimes I don't even think she recognizes her gifts.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Both have a terrific voice, no question. I do prefer Alicia Keys because I really don't dig Beyonce's music at all. Over produced, nothing but sounds piled on top of another and no music.

Beyonce should make a proper soul or blues album with real instruments on it, that would really make my day. Call me old fashioned but I can't tolerate those high pitched synth sounds anymore and I'm tired of hearing drum machines on albums. Where's the melody you can hum to?

I'll explain why she's a great singer later.

And this is why, you will never be able to explain why Beyonce is a GREAT singer, because she is not.

*Wrong Answer* BOTH OF THEM are great. Jill's voice is just more robust than Bey's, like a Trumpet. Bey has that horn/sax vocal phrasing going for them. Both are GREAT at dynamics vocally. But are GREAT rhythmically. Both are GREAT at vocal arrangments. Both have great eras. Jill inteprets better, but Bey is still a very, very good interpreter.

I will give you Jill is better(and everyone knows I am a Bey stan) but not that much better. It's actually with all that in mind. Put it is like this: Jill is the best from 30-40 age group. Beyonce is the best in the 20-30 age group.

so honestly, u clicked the link I posted and still dont think beyonce is a great singer?Jill Scott is a great power house soul vocalist with great range, But Beyonce has more vocal agility and versatality over Jill.

the reason why Beyonce is a great vocalist is because she is an all in one type singer. she may not have most powerful voice, but she makes up for it with her great range and tone/pitch control. Beyonce can also hit operatic notes.. Im not a jill scott fan so if Jill has been able to sing Opera can u please post a link? Not saying Bey sings better than Jil but the only thing Jill really has on Bey is power and low notes, (and emotion).. Bey pretty much beats her in every other cataegory. Power doesnt always equate better.

[Edited 6/4/10 20:30pm]

You said that you were not a Jill Scott fan, so I guess you have not heard how versatile her voice really is. Beyonce CAN'T COME CLOSE TO BEING THE VOCALIST THAT JILL SCOTT IS....EVER!!! DO YOU HEAR ME??????!!!!!! Ok. I think when you are up to it, you really should check out some of Jill Scotts work, you just might fall in love with her vocal abilities.

Ummm. No, you're wrong. I give Jill the victory but it is NOT a slaughter. I don't understand how people can go in on Bey's vocals with performances like this: http://www.youtube.com/wa...y0adn2v48Y

and this: http://www.youtube.com/wa...o5yRu4LxvM

and this:http://www.youtube.com/wa...EEYc2QEioo THIS ONE 3 songs WITHOUT A MIC. Come on now, give the woman more cred than that.

Bey has more instrumentation than people think she does. In fact, listen to B'day, Bey uses mostly instrumentation. It's very horn-heavy and funky. And only 2 samples on the original 9 songs on B'day(remember she's is Hip Hop/Pop/R&B artist doing this). IASF had far more synths than her first two albums by far but it still had guitars(even Bibi, her band director spoke on it). The Drum machines point, I will give you that.

What Bey does is blend the old and new with her sound and does well in my opinion. And she will ALWAYS do that, and some aren't going to like it. Oh well. And other than a couple of songs(Like Singles Ladies for example), all of Bey's songs have melodies. LOLOLOLOL!!!!!

Jill's voice is fuller than Bey's. Like I said, her voice is more like a Trumpet. Brassy, robust, heavy with some brightness. Bey's voice is brighter, a bit more agile actually but don't resonate the way Jill does.

Actually she was poking fun at herself. It was done on purpose. She made her voice do that. Even a reviewer of the album spoke on it: Beyoneven worked to undermine her famous perfectionism: In some songs she purposely hits bum notes.

Think about it: Don't you think they would auto-tune for her and fix up her vocals?

NO.

Low notes:

The entire first verse is completely in third octave, lowest note is C#3 (which is also the "Halo" note). Each and every note is quite clear.

And every note Beyoncé "tried to hit" in "Ego", she hit (BEYONCÉ DOES NOT GO OFF KEY). I don't know what you're talking about, and I don't think you do either. Beyoncé's head voice is the closest to operatic you'll get in popular music:

Neither one of them is known for power REALLY, but I have all of Jill's studio albums and there's nothing "powerhouse" about ANY of them. Beyoncé's voice doesn't get thin when she belts. Check the Grammy performance where she goes all the way to her signature F5. No sign of thinness, shrillness, whatever.

i have one jill scott song and i dont think shes very good at low notes she sort of does it through a wannabe ella fitzgerald fat albert sort of thing

but neither can beyonce..her voice keeps disappearing and gets nasaly when she trys to do low notes and gets really scratchy when she does high notes,i particularly noticed this when listening to the 'ego' song by beyonce at a cousins house. for a straight minuite or so she does this vocal solo after she says something like ''ill just sing with the piano'' where every note she trys to hit..she doesnt hit..it was just embaressing

jill is the better singer of the two though

quite frankly nina simone royally kicks both of thier asses when it comes to really low notes

which is incredibly hard for a woman which is why i respect her talent much more

NO.

[Edited 6/8/10 1:01am]

obviously YOU don't know what you're talking about..if you read my statement properly you'd see i was tring to say

when she tries to hit low notes her voice does that vibrator 'girl on the phone in 'the curse movie' thing

it trembles too much so it's obvious she can't hold the note and when she does high notes her voice goes scratchy..and her missle note is just nasaly

a piano 'hitting' a note in c#3 with a broken or scratched cord..indeed wouldn't be hitting the note..just a poor replication of it

and i don't know what the 'off key' statement was about, haven't you heard her doing that yodeling thing? she can't even do that right

'the closest to operatic in popular music' is not saying much seeing as most of the 'popular singers' are way too overrated and can't sing very low at all

it's the same as saying she's a amazing singer just because she's better at it than britney..it's not hard.

too prove someone's the greatest you have to compare them to the greatest

Speak on it!! Hey, in regards to your previous statement regarding Jill Scott sounding like Fat Albert. She doesn't do so all of the time. The "Fat Albert" sound that you think you are hearing, is actually a not so good imitation of Louie Armstrong. If you have sometime, check out my other page on Jill Scott vs. Beyonce. It is located in "Associated Artist" section. Check out her live version of Lyzel in E flat aka He loves me. Beyonce also does a version, so you can compare the two vocal sounds.

And no crazy Ratchetchan, you are not invited....we just don't need the drama.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Your kind always greatly amuses me. lol If Beyonce blew up a school full of preschoolers, you would still defend her and belittle everyone who wasn't okay with it. The woman could shit in a box and you would totally buy it...absolutely pathetic and hilarious all at the same time. She had a 'wardrobe malfunction', which is something that has happened to many celebrities so I'm not just picking on her. She's working that pole better than most strippers do in that picture so that's not exactly speaking volumes about her talent...same way I feel about most female artists now who insist on resorting to this nonsense. If you can sing, why do this garbage? If it's not considered dancing when an exotic dancer is doing it, than it's not dancing when Beyonce does it either and posting a Lil Kim clip really isn't helping prove your case much because yeah:

No Beyonce fan had better say anything negative about Lil Kim now is all I have to say.

The only reason I even posted that picture was to prove your initial statement wrong. People have seen enough of Beyonce's nether regions to know that it's really nothing amazing and there are no golden rays of light shooting out of it like you probably hoped for.

lol People who have to resort to name calling usually do it because they've either 1) been proven wrong, 2) are immature children with low IQs who need to pick up a book and better their vocabulary, or 3) obsessed fans who are heading into stalker territory. You seem to fit into all 3 of these categories...lucky you. Only an obsessed fanatic would know what her hideous robo glove is made of and can remember exactly how many Grammys she won for 'Single Ladies', so just to make you feel better I'll say her "undeserved 3 Grammys for 'Single Ladies'"...better; good. biggrin I've listened to all of her solo albums and her first album is still the best album she has ever released as a solo artist IMO. Since you call her 'Beysus', I'm going to post the same clip that I posted in another thread for people who insist on giving ridiculous monikers to their favorite celebrities:

I'm done. Enjoy your Beyonce worship services and don't forget to put your money into the collection plate for Daddy Knowles. wave

Beyonce is the best in the 20-30 age group.

hmmm I will have to think on this.

Video 2 I find her voice irritating. Video 1 is surprising... (and I mean I was surprised!) good. I think she sounds much better in a lower register.

Video 3 shows me that Beyonce has better voice than J... err, umm. Better than S ... umm never mind. stirthepot

I will hold my peace next time there is a debate whether Beyonce can sing... because these videos has convince me that she is better than I thought. But I still don't believe that Beyonce can "blow" as one man at work insists anytime the subject comes up. lol
