Yeah, its disappointing. I know he's got better stuff in the vault. Don't get me wrong, it's good and all, just not deserving of the hype they put on it. There surely were better choices for his first posthumous release.
I'm looking forward to the motown stuff now.

EmeraldSkies said: So was This Is It recorded during the Dangerous sessions? or was it the Off The Wall sessions? There are some that are saying that they feel that the Jackson Brothers had there vocals added to the backing vocals, and that the song originally wasn't with them singing back up.
The ORIGINAL "This Is It" was written and recorded by Michael in 1980 and copyrighted in 1984. The version Sony released was re-recorded during the Dangerous session/era. Sony stay tryna make a quick buck. Just like they told us they was releasing the ORIGINAL demo of "For All Time" from the Thriller session, when they released the re-recorded version from Dangerous session instead.

What they really need to do is release the full version of "I'll Be There" that was used for the Pepsi promo, and the full adult version of "Never Can Say Goodbye" from the unreleased Decade album. There is so much amazing stuff out there they have not released. No rush, I suppose, but they really should have just included this as a bonus track or something, not as a selling point for an album of material we all own and now half the world owns seeing as how much of his material was gobbled up after death.
Compilation albums are a fact of life, especially for artists of his magnitude, but come on. [Edited 10/12/09 1:15am]

1. I LOVE IT!!!!
2. This was written in 1980 BUT Michael tried it out for Dangerous in 1990 or 1991 but then gave it to Safire but THEN reworked it for the o2 shows/ next album. Also, if you notice, it has a similar melody to Bless His Soul "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

i don't care hether it was recorded in 1980, 1990 or 2009. it's something new!
it sorta sounds like a demo cause it probably is but michael sounds amazing, it's a really beautiful song "we make our heroes in America only to destroy them"

And the vocals? Do you think they're from 1980 or from Dangerous era? He sounds too young for Dangerous era, but maybe he's pitched?

Superstition said: Well, This Is It would make a fine bonus track or extra cut on something, but as a song hyped as his first posthumous "single", it's a bit of a letdown. It's a decent track and all, just not worthy of the hype it's been given. There had to have been a better, likely newer ballad he had been working on that would have fit better. Maybe the orchestral version will be better.
yeah, after all, he gave the song away.

Whoever claims MJ was reworking the track in the last few years is just speculating. What we know for sure is: He gave the song away in 1991, with anther name. Who tells us this is the This Is It song copyrighted in 1984? Might as well be that they knew I Never Heard features the line this is it and chose that song.

So it was recorded in 1980 for either the Destiny or Triumph albums, but wasn't used,so maybe this is the original recording, and that is why if brothers are on the backing vocals. I think the brothers recorded the vocals in 2009. As usual, they try to make money with MJ and it pushes the nostalgia factor.

Yeah, that's the thing. His voice sounds really young. He didn't have that young voice in 1990 anymore. But probably they pitched it a little? Didn't MJ write the song "Love Never Felt So Good" with Paul Anka as well? Probably it's from the same sessions - 1983/84?

Yeah, Let Me Let Go ain't MJ This is It is shoddy. Also, melodies are almost exactly the same as 3T Why. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

It's not grabbing me either. I see why it was left on the cutting room floor. For me, I think it's the arrangement moreso than the song. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

The song kinda muddles along, no crescendo, quick fadeout, definately a demo. Pleasant enough, it is what it is, a Sonyfied cash-in.

I'm wondering if the version that will be on the album will be better produced? Surely this can't be the version that makes it to album?
Like I said, I definitely don't think it's bad, but I can't imagine them leaving it like this on the album. Background vocals sound good, but the countdown at the beginning, some of the instrumentation and MJ's vocals sound muddy.

I'm actually scared to go see it as just seeing the preview has already sparked some of the feelings I had when I first found out. I think seeing this movie will bring June 25th back all over again But of course I would never forgive myself if I didnt get a chance to see this on the big screen. But it will just remind me of what I missed out on. By the way has anyone got there tickets yet? I got an email saying mine was sent, but that was about 3 weeks ago. [Edited 10/12/09 7:37am]

Not trying to sound cold or mean, but I loved MJ also and might have a tear or 2, but I have a feeling that we are going to be thoroughly entertained by the movie and there may be an emotional part or 2. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
