Was Michael Jackson THE greatest ever?

Was Michael Jackson the greatest entertainer ever?

No doubt he was one of the greatest, quite possibly THE greatest ever. His singing, his dancing, his stage shows, his music, his videos. As an artist he was top notch in almost every way. Truly incredible. But was he THE greatest ever? Would love to know your thoughts..

Personally, no. I do think he was one of the greatest and will think that for the rest of my life. But saying THE greatest is kinda subjective.

these kind of topics are USELESS

everyone has their own opinion of who or what is the greatest anything.

to me personally i think he's the best entertainer ever but i can see why people would differ

LET THE BATTLE BEGIN.

I think Michael Jackson is indeed one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Entertainers like Michael Jackson only comes once in a lifetime. There already are many imitators, but we will never see this type of phenom again In my opinion, he is THE GREATEST, but I agree with the previous post, this is subjective.
Because of his untimely death, it may be "politically correct" to give him such a title, but they're are many Jackson haters and for whatever reasons, it will continue.

I believe he crossed the threshold one has to cross to be considered the greatest of all time. Artists like Prince, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles and a few others have crossed it. After that, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

I know I will be hated forever by my fellow Prince fans, but I think MJ was the greatest artist ever wink I will always heart Prince no one and I mean no one will change that lol his music, persona, looks, etc. it's all great, but to be fair Michael Jackson took the music industry into the stratosphere cloud9 So many other African-American artist before Mike were denied due to race and that is so sad, but Mike kicked that door in! Every other artist that came after him including my baby daddy Prince lol has to give the man his props. Michael Jackson was the best entertainer that ever lived. I know some on here will disagree, hell even hate, but it's true wink

nope, nowhere close to THE greatest ever.

Cuz it's all in the eye (or, in this case, ears) of the beholder.

For me, he is the greatest , because simply he was the only western artist that reached to every culture ,language and race with his music and dance, ,I say this because I live outside the U.S and i know the man's influence, I see People who don't know English or what he is singing dancing to his music, they know him nod you need to see it to believe, Its unbelievable, There will never anyone like MJ again...people like him come once in a lifetime....

I do believe that there are more talented musicians than MJ, stevie wonder for example, but unfortunately they didn't influence the world like him....he was one of a kind.

Now see, being that I'm a history buff, I have to disagree with that statement about how many black artists (I have a dislike to that African American term because even though some of my ancestors are African, I am a native American, lol) were denied the chance to get in. Because if so you have to go back to Marian Anderson, Nat "King" Cole, Paul Robeson, Sammy Davis, Jr., Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Mahalia Jackson, the early Motown stars, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, etc.

Michael Jackson was, however, among the first post-"modern day Civil Rights" black superstars who made an impact, not so much socially but as a commercial force, he continued the push for pop music's international acceptance. Thriller broke the rules for EVERYBODY, not just black artists. But it was mostly to his own benefit but MJ was the only one who did what he did and did it well. I think his greatness came from his need to entertain and do it the best way he could. Like I said it's subjective to say what he did makes him the greatest but no one can deny he was one of the most gifted entertainers that ever graced the stage.

you know some prince floons are gonna be in here any minute now trying to discredit michael's legacy. lol I believe that michael is the greatest entertainer and performer of all time. Not the best singer or songwriter or musician. He was an entertainer that was unique....nobody ever like him and people like him come around once. Now when it comes to entertainers and performers, michael is the best to ever do it. As for everything else music artist wise....he's one of greats.

Of course!

The amount of perfectionism this man put into his work- the music, the dancing, no one will come close. He was very gifted.

I can respect this-I believe that every early artist you named was talented and were unfortunate to live in the time that they did race wise. I think MJ took all their talents on his back and did what they were not allowed to do and as someone already said he was loved by people all over the world. It takes a special person to do that/a magical person.

Musically everyone can have their own opinion.

But as an all around entertainer and performer, there's practically nobody who's been all round superb performer like Michael. Excellent singer, excellent dancer, great albums, amazing shows, brilliant music videos.

I don't hate any of Michael's albums. Even his worst songs are better than any shitty song on the radio.

I hate threads like this. Someone well come and bring up he's personal life and call him a freak any minute now. I personally think since he was the most famous person in the world for more then 20 years then he's up there with The Beatles and Elvis. What we have today...fuckers like JT and Chris Brown make me sad. I heard somewhere JT talked shit about prince....-_-.

I got you and I can understand how some fans (and some music industry folks) can say what y'all saying but I think he finally broke the ledge of the door that was already damaged from jump street. lol

Michael's problem is that he was always trying to top "Thriller". Everything that he did, had to be better than it, instead of just making the music and letting it speak for itself.
