First few Michael Jackson O2 gigs postponed

Breaking News - Reschedule of MJ Concert Dates Announced
Rescheduling Information

Due to the sheer magnitude of the “This Is It” concerts at the O2 Arena promoters and producers AEG Live and Kenny Ortega, Michael’s directorial partner and creative collaborator have elected to move back a few of the opening shows in order to meet the challenges presented by such a massive and technically complex show.
Organisers are determined that all Michael’s legions of fans attending the opening nights get the same quality of staging and level of entertainment. Only the four shows listed here are affected:

· 8th July will take place on 13th July 2009
· 10th July will be moved to 1st March 2010
· 12th July will be moved to 3rd March 2010
· 14th July will be moved to 6th March 2010

“Kenny and Michael are, at the same time, both creative pioneers and perfectionists. This show has grown in size and scope, thereby, necessitating more lead time for manufacture of the set, programming the content for the massive video elements, and, most importantly, more time for full production and dress rehearsals in the world’s busiest arena, the O2. As much as we agonized over this change in the original schedule, we are sure the fans will understand when they experience the level of entertainment Michael Jackson intends to deliver while also ensuring the safety of the musicians, cast and crew and the crisp execution of the production. It is AEG Live’s sincere hope that those lucky enough to have purchased tickets will have enough time to change their personal schedules and travel plans if they are coming from outside of London. We do not want anyone to miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

My friend had tickets for the first 3 shows. This totally screws up his schedule and travel plans.

Here we go.

He'll start mucking about with the dates and then he'll start cancelling, no doubt.

Why is the very first show in 2009 and the others in 2010? Funny, my friend wanted to get tickets for the first shows because he didn't think Michael would last/show up for later ones. Screwed either way.

You're misreading it. There are FIFTY shows. These are FOUR dates that have been rescheduled until next year. There are dates after that, that have not been rescheduled, that are still intact. No one said ALL the shows were postponed until 2010, except that one. These are just four shows that have been moved around.

I didn’t mean the 50 shows, just the remaining ones. I only cared about the remaining ones because those are the ones my friend had tickets to. But I’m guessing there was nowhere to fit them in.

I know. I took it as you thought these were the only 09 shows and the rest were in 2010 anyway, and now all but 1 was in 2010. I think there'll be more of this mess as the year progresses.

shrug

I don't know about cancellation, maybe Mike just needs more preparation as it says.

I'm afraid to go into the MJ boards to see the craziness going on over there. boxed

Imagine how much people have paid for opening night tickets from Ebay/ticket agencies to find that they've been re-scheduled to 2010 ..... if Jackson is still playing gigs in 2010 I'd be shocked ...

dumbass...what a dumbass. Really you should of scheduled them later knowing how long this is going be. I don't care honestly because I have tickets for February 20th, 2010 so my stuff is fine. I can feel for the fans that have the tickets for those dates. Many of them can't go now because of certain commitments. Shame on you, Michael. He does not have my support on this one.

Come on, let's be real about it.

The time between Thriller (82) and Bad (87) and Dangerous (92) was all on average, 5 years (the shortest being 4 years between Dangerous and History, and the longest being 6 years between History and Invincible). No one ever shouted "he's retiring!" during any of that. Unless it's some irresponsible person trying to raise an eyebrow for the sake of it.

He did work for the 25th Anniversary edition of Thriller, and has been in the media in the past year shown to have been working on music with will.i.am and others for a new record. And then there's this whole pesky 50 shows thing, which doesn't really balk of someone retired.

It's not that he's retired, it's just that he's as bad as Prince on following through with things. It's like a batter hitting a ball, and stopping the bat as soon as it makes contact with the ball. They're both missing the ability to SWING that bat 270 degrees.

right, i think we need to realize that michael and prince are not 25 anymore, they are 50...probably not as enthusiastic about their career/work anymore.

I don't blame them being pissed. People have their trips all planned, like a WHILE ago. I mean they come from all over the world hotels booked and everything. Even if there won't be any cancellations at all but just the moving of the dates it's ridiculous. How will it work out with refunding the costs and etc? There are those that only have had their dates moveed by "only" a few days, and then you have those with their date moved by months. I'm glad I didn't plan on attending any. I have always been a fan of Michael as Timmy can back up but I understand the frustration. I'm curious to see what happens from here on.
