What are your Top 5 rare/obscure/lesser-known albums that anybody seriously into The Funk should own?

What's the funkiest track recorded by a usually non-Funk act?

Quazar's eponymous debut (their only album, actually smile ) is most definitely a must-have, Lakeside's 'Shot Of Love', 'Full Moon' by Mystic Merlin, 'Sunburn' by Sun and Dayton's 'Dayton'.
The first half of Cold Fire's 'Too Hot' is also surprisingly good. Unfortunately, the album kinda falters towards the end confused

Well, the O'Jays are primarily a soul act, but For The Love Of Money is one of the funkiest things ever printed on wax cool

Not raggin' on ya skills Funkster, but I have 2 that may be very simple for you. I'm curious to see if you've "dug" deep enough. These are rather "lite".

1. The band Slave had a lead singer that left the group to go solo. Name the Band name he briefly performed under, and what was the title of his/their biggest hit?

2. The Bar-Kays actually have 1 surviving member from it's original group. Name the instrument he plays/played?

[theme from Jeopardy playing]

lol

First, he released a couple of albums with his band 'Hall Of Fame' (Steve Arrington's Hall Of Fame) and then a couple of albums just under 'Steve Arrington'. He scored hits with 'Weak At The Knees', 'Dancin' In The Key Of Life' & 'Feel So Real'. I own all his post-Slave albums smile

Oh, I thought there were still two members of the original Bar-Kays... oh now wait, Dodson was not an original member smile. Anyways, I think he's still around. The original founding member that's still a part of the Bar-Kays today is (the very talented) bassist James Alexander.

Nice. Now with that being said. You indicated that you have ALL post albums, any other groups Steve worked with? The track was bangin', big summer hit?
This may be a tough one, but it's there

This one just jumped into my head, and will be my last one (I don't grant Funk Cards, I just peruse every now and then). In relationship to P-Funk, If I say "Superfoot", you say?

cool
Stay on your grind!

Ah, yes. To be more precise, I own all his Steve Arrington/Steve Arrington's Hall Of Fame stuff.
The track you are referring to, it's Summertime Lovin', yes?

I have to admit, your second question rings no bells. Care to fill me in, bro? cool

For as young as you are, I'm not hatin' on your credentials. Good job!

In your search did the name Aurra come up? He produced this group back in the day. The track was "Why Don't You Make Up Your Mind" 12' Vinyl single. And it sounded like the typical Slave track.....Bangin'!

Superfoot is also known as Jerome Brailey.

cool

Aurra was produced by Steve Washington, not Steve Arrington wink

This got me wonderin'... I found 'Summertime Lovin'' on eMule ages ago, but I've no idea where the track is originally from. Is it just a single or something?
Does anyone have any info on the track?

As far as I know, Steve Arrington recorded that track during sessions with Aurra and Steve Washington, and Steve W. released that track as just a 12'' single on Salsoul, the same label he had Aurra signed to at that time.

Oh yeah, Larry's still around. I've seen them many times. He's just as wild as ever with blonde hair, fire, and snakes. He's got to be in his 60s by now and he just proves that age ain't nothing but a damn number. He's the best arguement I have to throw at people when they use age as a defense for older artists getting slow and weak. Larry is still hard and will probably leave this world kickin' and screamin'. lol

Funk is something you feel. It hits you in a certain way, it's kinda hard to explain.
Well, of course one could list all the typical musical aspects of funk songs. Stuff like syncopated rhythms, prominent bass etc

Here comes that New Wave guy cool

Favorite funky New Wave song?

Have you ever listened to the band A Certain Ratio?

Speaking of which, why have you failed to acknowledge the funky bands that came out of the Post-Punk/New Wave era (Gang of 4, APB, The Pop Group, Maximum Joy, etc.)?

Do you like the band Level 42?

Are you into British Funk groups (Beggar & Co., Imagination, Light of the World, Hi Tension, Central Line, etc.)?

What was the last funky Prince song?

Admit it, Cameo was the baddest funk band of their time, weren't they?

I once said that Jamiroquai was one of the last great Funk bands (which started some controversy). Am I right?

You do realize there are still some funky bands out there right now? (The Rapture, Los Amigos Invisibles, Bamboo Chutes, Meech Wilson, !!!, Harco Pront, Q & Not U, etc. )

Who is the funkiest rhythm guitarist ever?

Even though they're a Hip-Hop group, wouldn't you say that Outkast carries the funk torch?
NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
