The "Old School Jams" series are always good. I think I have Volume 3, 4, and 6. I would have to check to make sure. Anyway, I have three volumes.

They are always 2-CD sets and many times have rare 12 Inch versions that are hard to find. They are also a very reasonable price.

You mean these... ?

Yep, I have those two.

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/images/album_images/cov200/pop/cov200/drh400/h414/h41436ekic6.jpg[/img]

I have two from the "Gold" series. Disco and 80s Dance.

That's the Parliament CD set I have also, along with "The 12 Inch Collection" from the Funk Essentials series.

When Shitney Houston first came out, who could have took her under their wing, wrote and produced her album, and led her down the right path.....the funk path? I know it would be a difficult task because she has no rhythm but the little goodie two shoes does have a voice....she just never applied it to the right kind of music.

Wasn't she produced by Jermaine early on in her career?

Oh Lord, I had forgotten about that damn song. She and he did a duet something about "If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful" or some shit. I also remember her doing a duet with Teddy Pendergrass also. Both songs were absolutely horrible.

She seems to me like the type of person that could get loud with her voice if she wasn't so damn afraid of sounding "too black". I think she would have been perfect as a female singer with a group like One Way doing a song like "Pull Fancy Dancer/Pull" or someone like Tom Browne doing a song like "Jamaica Funk" or "Thighs High". Her voice might have sounded good on those type songs. And better yet, they would have been jammin' funk rather than watered down adult contemporary pop bullshit. lol

Well, she came out in 1985, so I guess she was doomed from the start evillol
No but seriously, dunno, maybe Prince could've taken her as one of his protegés lol

Not really, considering that she had a big hand in fucking things up. If she had gone a different path, a lot of the slow ass balladeers that followed behind her would never have emerged. If they had, they wouldn't have been nearly as successful because folks would have still be jammin'. lol

No but seriously, dunno, maybe Prince could've taken her as one of his protegés lol

Prince didn't really go for too many ladies that could actually "sing" so Shitney would have been out of the question for him. lol Rick could have got his hands on her though. The Mary Jane Girls could sing. He could have given Shitney some drugs, made her funky, and dressed her as a slut. However, I don't know how she would have looked in those stockings and garder belts with those little chicken legs of hers. lol

Funkenstein i just picked up two parliament cd's last saturday
Motor Booty Affair and Gloryhallastupid(Or pin the tail on the funky) lol
I know mothership connection is parliament's masterpiece. How would you rate these other two. Did i do good since you are the p-funk king?

Also i tried to get into some early funkadelic stuff like maggot brain but some
of it was just a bit too psychodelic for me. I do like get off your ass and jam.
How do you feel about early funkadelic stuff before one nation under a groove?

Actually, I consider Funkentelechy Vs The Placebo Syndrome their masterpiece, with Mothership Connection coming in as a close second.
Motor Booty is cool, Gloryhallastupid sucks balls. Some of the other guys told me to give it another spin so Imma do that at some point, hell, maybe I'll even like it this time around.

Yea, the earliest Funkadelic records are a bit... trippy, to say the least. I'm not that much into Funkadelic anyway, at least not their earliest stuff. Like you said, a bit too psychadelic 'n' all smile
I like the occasional Funkadelic album & song here and there, but they are not my fav or anything. I do love Parliament though

The Nevilles. The Meters are crazy funky

hmmm
First band to pop into my mind Cameo.
Most of their stuff was pretty danceable, even though I don't think it's necessarily 'dance-funk' or sophistifunk.

hmmm
I'll have to think about this and get back to you later on... it's too early in the morning to think properly wink

On a scale of 1 to 5 how funky are the Isley brothers?

How would you rate george clinton solo albums?
I was not a huge fan of atomic dog or the computer games album.
I loved you shouldn't of bit fish. Quickie and last dance were my jams.
I also liked double oh oh and bullet proof which was definitely funky from
some of my best friends are jokes.
I also bought r&b skeletons in the closet with hey good lookin(vanessa williams sung backing vocals) and the silly but funky do fries go with the shake.
Which of george solo albums you consider to be the best.

I know you don't rate Prince as a major funk playa, but what do you think is his funkiest track?

Also, in your opinion, what are the funkiest tracks by -

Ohio Players, and

Stevie Wonder?

I have to disagree with you on that. The only two good songs on that album was
the ultrafunky man's best friend/loopzilla and the nauseating but good atomic dog. The rest of the album was garbage. His final three solo albums for capitol
were better.

Whitney disappointed me when she first came out in 1985. When she came to town on her promotional thing she only went to the lily white Pop radio stations. How can she ignore her own people when she's Black herself?? Well, when her album came out she found out a lot of Black people bought her album. So in turn, she had the nerve to go the Soul Train Awards and she promptly got BOOED. Karma is a bitch

I guess it comes down to the way he brings it all together. He rarely has bass dominated tracks and uses too much cheesy synth stuff.

hmmm
Well, they could get down 'n' dirty when they wanted to, so I'll give a four.
