I'll say this much: I was puttering around the house when they played the video on Tavis, and before I realized it I was shaking booty and dancing around in my drawers like a fool. I can't remember the last time any song made me do that, much less one of Prince's. You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!

You can find the video at mms://wm.sony.global.spee...ll_300.wmv .
I've missed the excitement of seeing a new Prince video. [Shoot, I was excited yesterday when I discovered some old videos over at Yahoo!'s Launch (it was fun reading the words to "When 2 R In Love" LOL)] I've been watching the video and listening to the song over and over again all afternoon. You know, there have been a bunch of times when I didn't feel a song or video when it first came out because my attention was immediately grabbed by another catchier tune. But it most always turns out that the "catchy" tune is the one that becomes dated. Some of the other ones just take a little more time to grow on me. Nothing wrong with that.... Yup, that little boy is too cute. I can't wait to show this video to my 10 year old when I get home tonight. A note on the end when Prince throws his 'kerchief in the air. Now, you know there would be NO WAY that a little guy like that could possibly catch something thrown to the audience. I'm almost 5'10" and have almost been trampled trying to catch a drumstick for my kid. [This message was edited Wed Mar 24 17:28:25 2004 by newpowerlove] "No, I'm not that mysterious. I had only been able to hear it at work today...then the link was gone and then I got home and you gave me a wonderful present. THANK YOU AGAIN. The more I hear it the more I feel it. Not the strongest (still needs a bit of oomph..but I think he's going more for lyric and groove than beat))...but it's instantly recognizable and it grows and grows. Had my doubts at first...but the more I listen the more I like Kid's cute..singing into that vacuum cleaner. And the ending is tight. love that bass. again thanks!!!! Christian Zombie Vampires

don't know, dianne. What version of Windows Media Player do you have? Maybe it's time for an upgrade? "No, I'm not that mysterious. I'm a pretty open book. People who know my music, I would say know me." - Prince, Today Show 3/15/04

I think it's a great James Brown sound-a-like, layed-back track - but not a good lead-off single. It doesn't really change it's beat or rhythm thoughout, you hope it's gonna explode out or something, but all you get is that shrieking organ note that you can't help feeling Dr. Fink would have done something more interesting with. I think for a 'comeback' single you need something a bit kick-ass. It's funky, but not punchy. I have a friend who was blown away by Prince's expressive guitar solo at the Hall of Fame - but I don't think he's gonna be blown away by this, which really is not at all expressive, innovative or inspiring for a song which is about how certain bands inspired Prince... Prince can knock this sort of track out standing on his head. And often does. I don't hate it. It's okay for an album track. My guess is it won't chart high or that it will disappear from the charts real quick if released as a single. But I could be proved wrong. Place your bets here! I totally agree with everything you said. I´d like to add though, that I think Prince might have included this track because it can be funky as hell if played live (and he apparently sees the album as a companion to the live shows since they´re presented to us in cojunction with each other). It doesn´t knock your socks off on CD though... but neither did "The Work Pt. 1". loved the version at the Aladdin. all can do, is just offer U my love...

Thank you newpowerlove
I didn't love the song on first hear and don't now HOWEVER, the video is WONDERFUL and he doesn't always make great videos. I think this song will grow on me, which for me, is a good sign. Think of it this way, how many times has Prince released an album/cd and led off with what many called the "weakest" song? To me this is also a good sign. Do your thing Prince...I'll just be here enjoying the ride.... I'm firmly planted in denial

This is a joint for those who used to put their backs out to the song Car Wash, Ring My Bell, Wishing on a Star. Man I hear all kinds of influence it this joint, particular the songs from For You and Prince albums. Musicology is natsy for those who remember and wonder what happened to those family cook outs where you got grandma doing the Electric Slide. You hear all that in a monotonous loop, huh? Your grandmother's taste in music sucks. Yeah, you're right it has a loop that doesn't change for the whole song, but that in itself doesn't make it bad. I would say Kiss has a loop that doesn't really change, 1999 has a loop, When Doves Cry has a drum loop. My first time hearing it two minutes ago. I quite liked the video. I loved the bodyguards holding back that guy who thought he was hot shit. The kid got in though. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. I love the video and love the song, but it sounds WAY better live. I would rather hear real horns (and a Maceo solo) than synth horns any day....especially in a funk jam. But what do I know. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

i like the jay leno version MUCH better. this band is tight as hell. on the studio version there is a sample looped through the entire song and that is the entire groove.
it reminds me of sign o the times and other studio albums where he plays all the instruments in the studio. then he plays it live with a band and it sounds much better. not the best song, but live it is real funky and fun. cant wait to hear him to dmsr and other old hits that he hasnt played in a while. (not when u were mine, take me with u, or raspberry beret).

[b]So far the best prince video, it's very playable on any music channel like mtv, bet or vh1...it reminds me 2 betcha by golly and somebody's somebody videos, very very good quality, let's say production, i won't b surprise if the video director is paul hunter coz looks like a hunter video...
well the song rocks, like he said a school joint, so everybody knows that he's coming back 2 his roots and is not live in the past, but back in the days the music was real music... personally i'll get 3 cd's from the concerts, 1 from the screening and i'm gonna buy it @ the retail store.... so join me.... Say it loud eye'm a prince fam and eye'm proud

Im all about positivity but wow, that was kinda stinky. Near the end it got really confusing and didnt make much sense. And yah, not really catchy I hope he releases reflection. Disclaimer: All sentences resembling insults alive or otherwise, are purely coincedental.

What comes to the lead-off singles: I've been following Prince for almost 11 years, and the only lead-off single I wasn't floored by was "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold", but I thought at least was mediocre. And this time we can't even blame Kirky J. for fucking up the drum programming.
And no, there's no real musicianship on this one either. And you should really never namecheck other artists in your lyrics, that's just really bad writing.
