Awesome!!

Thanks for posting that mversion! I appreciate it, now I was finally able to watch it in full.

I think Musicology is a good, solid funk jam that could've been great if it only had more of a hook.

This song for me is one of the dullest Prince records I've ever heard, the false starts and that dumb radio tuning effect at the end reminding the listener of some great Prince tracks of the past. This song will do nothing...bland..dull and boooooring.

There's an element to that with kid.

And the way the little kid gets put up on the stage by his father, as P was at a James Brown gig when he was a youngster

Anachronist

I just watched the video: Lame. C'mon P, for a real musician, who in every concerts claims to make real music, the basic loop of this track is nothing less than boring, and I can't see any other elements that could save this "song" from utter mediocrity.

And what's the sense behind a live gig w/ band as the setting for a video clip, while the actual music hasn't even remotely a live touch and is as uninspiring as can be? Wanted to copy "Hey Ya", heh? Sadly, you didn't succeed at all...

This will be the first P album that I'll give a listen to before I'm eventually going to buy it.

Sorry for your comeback attempts,

Apparently, the video was discovered by fans online, but the site wasn't quite ready (thus, no post of the link from official NPGMC sources). The traffic was more than the host was prepared for, so the video has been taken down for now.

I don't have a problem with Prince being again at the top of the charts.

I only have a problem with his "aspirations" doing so through target group oriented (target group here -> MTV), lifeless sounding and overly boring, totally uninspiring programmed to death like tracks - in this case "Musicology" -, while after all the Grammy hype he could've been come up with something unrestrained, a truly original and really the feeling of Rock'n'Roll embodying song in opposite to all the pop music trash nowadays from so called artists like Britney Spears etc., and he easily would've sold shitloads records.

Hell, listen to TGE and tell me you can't hear the difference. Maybe "Musicology" is sounding contemporary, but who ever told you that contemporary pop music at the top of the charts is even remotely akin to real music?

I'm still hoping that the rest of the album will be far better than the single indicates, but I seriously doubt it looking at P's history, especially concernig his "Rave Un2" record four years ago.

I kind of like the video! Looking back in time I did not like most of the singles which were released by prince and I often asked myself why my favourites were not released. Obviously the little boy in the video is prince as a kid. Mabey this new album is the history of prince's journey in music from then till now. Considering the live version of musicology I personally think that every song played live by prince is better than the album version because playing live is Prince's real gift.

simtheury, you made my day!
There better be an extended joint on the single!

Let's talk about this "Old School Joint for the True Funk SOUL-diers"

The funk elements are there, yeah. But lyrically, this song really does put your heart back into musicianship. I'm loving it. I would hope that a single will come out with a much more extended version where the musicianship is showcased more.

Visually, the video is way cool with the depiction of the child riding his bike with the ace of spades in the spokes going to the old "mom and pop" record store, where you see the hand-drawn sign that says you get a free 45 with every concert ticket. The old man behind the counter... Ah... the good 'ol days...

Flash-forward. The kid playing the 45 back again learning the song on his guitar. You see a picture of Jimi taped to the inside of his record player. Singing into the neck of the vacuume cleaner.. Right on!

Forward to the show.
You see some "thug dressed" kids outside trying to get in. Not a chance. Remember when you dressed up to go out? ("2 the 9's" ask your grandmother what that meant) The guys in the sharp suits are let in without question.

The father, busting in the kid's bed-room reclaiming his LPs. Good one. Then taking him to the concert, putting him on his shoulders to see prince. Got me all misty. I will definitely be involved with my son when it comes to his knowledge of music. Notice all the old school posters in the kids bed room. Great visual. Too bad most kids of this generation wouldn't even recognize one of them. But that's part of the message, right?

Then the funk hits! The song shifts gear and has you on you feet. The old school tap-dancing was hot. One question though. What's up with the guards in the riot gear? And just when you are ready to "keep the party moving", it's over. I don't think so. Prince, this better be "part 1". Fun groove, but I felt only "teased."

Good song.
Good video.
Great message...

Take your pick: Turn-table or a band?

OK I tried to read through most of the this stuff but geez nobody has said it yet... and if someone has then ditto but dig it...
Is there any real NPGMC people up in here cuz i'm hearing a lot of opinions that are wayyyyy off...
Anyway the production on this song was from last years member contest. Where members downloaded these samples and put together a loop the best would be take for a song by Prince.... The original entries may be gone i done know see www.npgmusicclub.com ... Anyway i cant say for sure since i've heard so many versions of these samples but we may be hearing what Prince put together from a member's mixing... Anyway cudoes to those who picked up on the messege and lovers of real music by real musicians...
