Yeah, it's a little rough I agree. He's not wrong neccessarily, just kind of naive in his expression.

Yeah still talking about slavery in modern day (2010) America. There's still racism hell yes (Trumpism made that loud and clear) but we (Americans) live like fat kings compared to most of the world for crying out loud. I hope he's not talking about artistic slavery again because he signed a 100 million dollar recording contract and didn't get to release 50 albums a month. Shit, I need to stop. It's reminding me why I got turned off by the man. lol

Not going to pre-order this album based on what I've heard. Title track, Hot Summer, Same Page. Mediocre. Wait and hear mode before I order. Hey I'm excited there's new material but I don't have to buy everything. LOL.

I feel ya but I rolled the dice for 12 bux on Amazon anyway. The title track was interesting the first time but I know it aint gonna age well. Hot Summer I don't like. I dig Same Page but I already have it. There's a new version of When She Comes and that song's OK. I'm skipping the DVD because god damn I don't need to hear Let's Go Crazy, Delirious, Kiss, LRC and all that for the millionth time again.

EDIT:

And DjThunderfunk posted an Amazon link for the CD that was like 12 dollars on page 3 or 4 for those looking

Here:

Yeah when you put it that way. $12 for a new Prince album? I would've paid $100 in 1988. I'll buy it, listen to it a few times like most of his modern day albums, save a few tracks as waves and donate it to Goodwill. I don't like clutter.

I think I must be missing the point but why does the estate do "deluxe" versions that merely add the same album in a different format? It the worst case scenario where you could only get a booklet if you paid the deluxe price?

Seems really strange. I've never bought a vinyl set and thought, hmmm, I need CDs too.

It's #3 and #5 on Amazon. And the price on the deluxe is up to $100 lol

Sony really couldn't give us a CD/Blu for $20-25. So silly

Yeah I’m not going to be exploited , will wait for the eventual cd/dvd release. This album is just one long b-side if the title track & hot summer are any indication . And I agree with the poster who said he/she wasn’t purchasing a dvd with a let’s go crazy, LRC, dominant set list again.

If they really wanted to create a buzz they would of released the LA Troubador shows he played during this LA stint, paired with the main Forum show it would of blown the doors off.

Indeed, that's what's stopping me to get the SE. I'm curious enough to get the new album despite the fact that it will not likely be really my thing. But the extra is a live DVD of one of the standard Best Of concerts. They are fun to be at but for the fans there's little or no surprises there. I think they are really aiming for those who went to the concert and don't necessarilly have any other live recording laying around. For a cool aftershow I might be tempted to get the whole set.

I mean, the W2A tour was great. And as far as I'm aware, there's not many if any soundboards of it out. The audio should be spectacular.

can't wait for people's reactions when they realize the reason there's a million covers in the live set is that they're all about 5 seconds long and prince isn't even really singing most of the time.

i understand why they threw in the live gig, but this truly is a nadir of his live career in terms of recorded listening experiences, in my opinion. at the time, for those at the gig, i'm sure it was great... but it doesn't make for a fantastic experience afterward.

It's an odd concert to select in terms of the setlist. I was half-expecting Madison Square Garden from 2011, which was a huge gig and makes much more sense in terms of song selection. It will be nice to have this show, but others on the tour were much lighter on covers.

I'm happy to have the show as an official release, though I agree it seems like an odd choice. I enjoyed all of the Inglewood shows I saw -- Prince was altogether present, and in a generous and playful mood. True that some of the highlights from those shows (Cool, Let's Work, etc., someone had a good list above) are missing, but at least we'll have great, drawn-out and unique versions (IMO) of Joy, Controversy, Kiss, Purple Rain (14 mins on the boot), and, especially, the "Slow Down" version of LCR, which I love dearly.

I wonder if other nights from the Forum were simply problematic to release for guest artist / licensing reasons (this seems like one of the only shows where someone didn't hop on stage for a duet, Janelle/Gwen/Whitney etc.) though as I write that I guess it could be solveable. While I have prob with Shelby, Liv and Elisa they do seem to be all over this particular concert, even more so than others during that era.

EDIT: Maybe including a "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" cover would have posed problems?

EDIT2: Also would have loved a live recording of "U Will B With Me" with Andy Allo

True, but tge welcome 2 America tour was almost a copy past of the 2010-2011 concerts in Europe so it doesn't hold that many surprises in the end. I have the recording of the Viage preshow which is the most fun for me. It's loose but plays around with the same setlist.

I think the text is very good! It could also be called welcome 2 germany! You should understand that in a song that lasts 5 minutes the lyrics have to be simple.

BIZARRE Choice for a live gig! - undersold tix of c15k [!], not a stellar set-list & NOT his best performance. If you want to see a great gig from W2A go check out opening night in New Jersey, really well done audience shot etc, stellar set list etc.

Exactly.

Actually the idea of 'including / giving away' a CD version with a vinyl dates from some years ago right when vinyl was on it's retour.

Most acts don't do it anymore.

Hell, they might even throw in a cassette version. Same useless effect.

Anyways.

I personally don't understand why A DELUXE EDITION needs to be 'filled' up

with useless VIP pass, Backstage pass, poster, postcard, photo, concert ticket (really?!) etc.

These are things so easy to publish on a website to download.

Even a 32 page photo book (I'm sure) that only will include lyrics (maybe) and/or some small foreword by probably Mr. Hayes of Shelby, or whomever.

I don't need all these 'cards and passes'.

Don't get me wrong, a god book with worth while information, yes. Photobook? Naaaah.

-

I like vinyl.

Looking forward for the single release.

Only wished they started the first idea, of releasing an unreleased studio song as a B-side.

One of the things that made Prince so great in his early years. B-sides.

We all went wild for it.

The 'Dreamer' live version of 3 or 4 or so years later... is OK, but could be a better choice.

And hell, why not an extra Maxi-single with the same treatments as before ?

That would be original again.

Remember Prince used to make us jump through hoops just to get whatever release he had at the time? I mean, the website issues with Crystal Ball, the mystery behind The Gold Experience, the DRM problems with the NPG Music Club singles, and the 20Ten UK-only release alone should be enough for us to know what to expect from this man's world.

I have mixed feeling towards this release…

On the plus side, I’m really glad that the estate have chosen to release an authentic, finished album as Prince intended it to be. I hope this becomes a trend when it comes to future releases.

On the down side…
1) I’m annoyed that the Blu Ray is only available as part of the deluxe set in western regions. The LP alone is very reasonably priced, but the deluxe version just seems like a convoluted way of locking the concert behind a high pay wall. I know I could import the Japanese version, but I feel as if I shouldn’t have too.

2) Side 4 of the LP has no music on it! Instead they have included an etching. In my opinion there is no excuse for releasing a Prince record with a blank side. Why didn’t they include a few bonus tracks? They have access to all of Prince’s unreleased songs. Couldn’t they have found a few additional songs recorded around this time?

3) This really only applies to UK fans, but the deluxe edition is ridiculously expensive for what is included. £150 for 12 studio songs and a concert? Jog on. The CD edition of the last release cost around £150 and that contained 8 discs or music and a concert.

4) The deluxe set doesn’t even include the audio for the live show. It might have helped sweeten the deal if they included an extra CD or maybe a download code for that. Are they going to wait and sell it to us later like they did with ‘Prince And The Revolution: Live’.

Personally I’m not sold on ‘Welcome 2 America’ at all. I’ll likely buy the single CD or maybe the HD download, but I'm going no further than that. I’m not buying a 3 sided LP, and I’m not paying for a bloated deluxe edition. I’m not too worried about missing out on the blu-ray. There’s a good chance the concert will end up on the official YouTube channel a week before the album comes out anyway.

Amazon.fr sells the full SD thing express shipped to the Netherlands for circa €90.

.

Maybe do a small trip to France that coincides with the releease?

Soundbored audio might be available on b00tleg.

Perhaps also there are certain rules that prevent Sony from doing the full SDE thing with whatever they release?
