Given the going ons since November regarding Diamonds & Pearls material and info at some other places this rumor seems to be true.

After D&P SDE: Disc 1 album Disc 2 singles, remixes, etc Disc 3-36 PP one-off shows Disc 37 live show video of 24 Mar. 1995 . I.e.: get going in the 90's for the Estate-WB construct of would-be professionals. . Spoiler: Won't happen in this format. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

New younger Prince fans who missed out on the golden ages of Princes career the 80s, they're looking forward to it. Original Prince fans who lived through the 80s when he could do no wrong from Dirty Mind - Sign O'the times think it's a bad move and prefers Dirty Mind or Parade. I happen to agree with the original fans. But Purple Rain, Batdance, Diamond and Pearls and Musicology were his high profile moments of his career. But I feel sorry for 90s Prince fans. They have no idea what they missed out on when Prince was kicking ass throughout the 80s. [Edited 12/31/20 4:41am] This theory is garbage. I'm not a new or young fan and this release is gonna be awesome. You folks got your time to shine in your 80s bunker with hundreds of new tracks. Time to prove Prince wasn't on the dole by 1990. IF you became a Prince fan after the 80s... You'll always be a young fan to us original fans. Prince could do no wrong from 80-87, he was at is best then. Just like me I'll always be a younger Elvis fan because I missed out on his prime the 50s (61 baby). The 90s he became a joke, desperate trend follower, reggae music, rap music, shitty overproduced albums. [Edited 1/2/21 8:30am]

While I understand and appreciate the "sacredness" of being an older/oldschool Prince fan that was in their formative years in the 80's, this perspective is elitist and bullshit. - There is no "true Prince" just your personal preference. Clearly there are fans that came into Prince during the 90's and are just as nostalgic/appreciative for that era as you are for "your" era. Fact of the matter is, Diamonds and Pearls is one of Prince's most popular and well known albums/eras. It makes sense to delve into it. "New Power slide...."

Which means that most of you young fans will outlive us older fans. That's why they need to release the older stuff first because it does us no good if it's released after we're dead, gone, and no longer able to hear it. Y'all are younger so you have more years to wait for what you want than we have. Andy is a four letter word.

Yep, unfortunately Diamond and Pearls is one of his biggest albums sadly. Garbage album though

You wanna talk about great Prince album's? We can talk about anything he did from 80-87 those are definition of great albums. If you enjoy shit like Thunder, Jughead, Walk Don't Walk, Strollin, Willing and Able and Daddy Pop then be my guess. Shit was way too radio friendly and it was the beginning of Princes musical decline. The desperate trend following joke of an artist

I mean is hard to get out of his 80s era when he made so many classics Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain, Parade and Sign O'the times. Especially if you lived it. Again these kind of discussions will be generational.

I hope they reconsider and decide to do Dirty Mind next. They could even pair it with Controversy and give us a double SDE.

They should really RECONSIDER this idea. Diamond and Pearls was a garbage trend chasing, radio pop friendly album and it was the end of Prince. They should really do Dirty Mind, Parade and Controversy... Hell even Around The World In A Day.

Said no "true Prince" fan ever. "New Power slide...."

I believe that (for the most part) Prince did make his "best most interesting" music in the 80's. That's not really some kind of hot take. It's the simply the old school prevailing train of thought. - Yet, you can have your cake and eat it too. - One can love/dig/appreciate other eras just as much. It's not a betrayal to your youth, musical sensibilities, or the gospel. Bottom line, loving Prince/being a fan isn't a zero sum game. It's stupid to pretend that it is.

You need to stop with this age nonsense; the Gold Experience came out in the 90s and I loved it. I've been listening to Prince since 1979 and I'm probably older than you. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Seems to me you might wanna get a covid test since you've apparently lost yours.

A surround mix of Diamonds and Pearls would be really cool and would help make a somewhat lackluster album a new experience. The BIG sound of this album might be much more natural and open in that setting. With so many Blu Rays in surround coming out (such as the John Lennon Gimme Some Truth), why not give that as an option here?
How cool would Willing and Able sound with the call and response voices in surround? One can only imagine... [Edited 1/2/21 14:56pm]
