I agree. It s the only song I used to skip from D&P.
It s a bad rehash of Scandalous, boring and repetitive without any climax.
It s mostly americans who loves that kind of rnb. No wonder why it wasn't released outside the US.

I like With You better though, at the time in 1979 it wasn't a rehash of the same rnb tune.

That's why I don't understand the issue. I only find the issue on here. There's more music without Tony M./rap/hip-hop than with it but folks love to go down the "he was following trends" rabbit hole. No he just continued making whatever he wanted. If that meant r&b and funk primarily, so be it. Just say you didn't like it. Doesn't mean it wasn't good. All that quirky and experimental shit wasn't good either.

He set such high standards for himself in the80s so when he had relatively generic production, a straighter band sound on the whole, a rapper on half of the songs, etc, it would look like a step down
To me, it is def less innovative, but hey, it had a lot of great songs, more than any other 90s album, so I cant hate it.
But it was in many ways the start of prince trying to sound more normal, relatively speaking
Later on it would get worse, with him trying to use modern slang and so on, which never ages well, but this was the start

I'd buy a SDE of "Diamonds & Pearls", but it's probably one of those things that would get played once and go on the shelf. The only thing that might get spun more than once would be a live show if one were included. Not the biggest fan of the album, but that tour was excellent.

whatever happened to that W2A live album rumour, i would imagine that comes in between SOTT and D&P, if it was ever true in the first place.

not that i really want it, to be honest. i don't think it was a particularly engaging time in his live catalog.
