Have you ever heard Deboraarobed by Tyrannosaurus Rex? Marc Bolan's vocal style is so off-the-wall that, the first few times I listened to it, I didn't even realize that the song starts playing backwards halfway through

Love & Sex sounds like Swallowed by Bush. It really does. Not only melodically, but in its swagger. It's a pop-grunge song, a decade-and-a-half before grunge. I mean, it has an RnB sheen to its production, but even so...

"Visions" sounds alot like some of his father's music that was released.

Grunge existed when he recorded this song, lol.

This version of Wonderful Day is surely a demo and unfinished. How does this make it but not the hornless Witness?

hearing the cymbals crashing and snares snapping on "In A Large Room With No Light" in good quality, warms my soul

The horns totally distract from the vibe on BODP, almost like their being played to a totally different song imo.

Can I Play With U from 3:57, that lovely Miles trumpet melody has been ruined by a louder (discordant) trumpet over the top of it! WHY!!!!!!!!?????
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
. That's because we're so used to BODP the way it was released in 1987. And because it's a classic. I'm actually surprised it works so well (i.e. I expected something worse).

. Because that song is completely chaotic and goes in too many directions. I'm not sure what Prince's intent was.

I don't get why they ucluded a live studio version of Power Fantastic and not a studio version, I mean there are almost a minute intro of Prince giving instructions before we get into the song.

BTW I hadn't paid attention to the fact thatthe sitar version of SRS was included, I thought it was just the remix, but it's a great version better than the album version, which to me it was already great.

It works so well, still the album version is a stone cold classic.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound that well.

The studio version was released on The B-Sides and Howe has a big hard on for revealing the mystery behind Prince

It's the same damn version just without an edit and a vocal overdub! You could easily create whatever version you like.

Yeah, noticed that too. Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

word... it dilutes the funk

. If he had a female artist specifically in mind when recording this, it may well have been Jill Jones initially; this was recorded during a spate of studio work on prospective JJ album tracks, including 'For Love' (recorded two days after 'Love and Sex', on 5 January 1986). He also spent considerable time mixing the eventual album tracks in January 1986. . This version definitely feels appropriate to Sheila, but of course her 'solo artist sound' is something that percolates from P's own design. . One of the better tracks on this release; not groundbreaking, but at least above average, and certainly not filler. It's like 'She's Just a Baby', 'Next Time Wipe the Lipstick Off Your Collar', 'Neon Rendezvous' (1984 rehearsal), 'Empty Room', 'Crucial', 'Cosmic Day', 'Adonis & Bathsheba', '9-to-5 People', and 'I Guess i'm Crazy' thrown in a blender, but with a clear pop ballad bent. . I just reversed Nevaeh Ni Ecalp A using an online gizmo (3PM) - wow! if a'll want another version I suggest you do the same - basically an W&L accapella version with church like organ. A nice little 'hidden in plain sight' bonus track!

Lots of treasure here...so thankful for getting to hear it. Haven't smiled like this since I don't know how long

I LOVE the reversed version. Sounds fantastic.

I feel like I’m the only one who’s still playing I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man ‘79
I might love this better than the SOTT version now... and yet I shouldn’t because the ‘87 version is so epic, great pop arrangement with the leadline and the guitar solo is one of my favorite Prince guitar solos Yet the vibe/production of ‘79 is really doing it for me I guess for now on it’ll depend on what mood i’m in [Edited 9/25/20 21:52pm]

I don’t think i’ve heard the All My Dreams bootleg in a while... And i feel like that might’ve been the best sounding bootleg in the Prince world.... (i mean if i did an A, B comparison, I’ll probably be able to point out the 2020 master) Does anyone think Prince leaked that himself back in the day? Or maybe one of his associates (or associates of associates) had a damn good cassette recording, idk Oh and Train sounded damn good for a bootleg too

The only reason some sound bad is because either too many copies were made or quality was purposedly downgraded by traders before being sold to bootleggers. Power Fantastic and In A Large Room got me all in my feelings. Always loved both songs. [Edited 9/25/20 23:26pm] Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Agree, they add a nice flavour even though the original also works stripped down. Like a different song but they do seem to work too.

They did the best they could to my taste.
"Witness 4 the prosecution" (version 1) stands out (Church chorus is a killer) "Can i play with U?" version leaves me a bit confused after listening previuous versions "Power Fantastic" (studio live) the intro is a trip The Ignorant asserts,The learned doubts,The wise thinks.

Wonderful Day works better with Wendy and Lisa, I feel their vocal melodies definitely add something to it.
