Pointless to compare. Each had their own unique traits. In terms of recording, I guess the band were more evident on the next album, Lovesexy. Just as brilliant, in my view, but for different reasons. When the LOVESEXY special edition podcast comes along, I'm sure you'll get your fill.

[Edited 9/3/20 11:46am]

I think fans can/should compare. Those comparisons result in great dialogue. Associates should not compare. I think it is bad form when associates throw shade and try to discredit eras that they were not a part of. Prince was magic in every era and various associates were lucky to be a part of those eras. Sheila is probably the one person who was there and had a substantial contribution to many of those eras. Can't wait to hear from her.

[Edited 9/3/20 11:51am]

What are you comparing, though? He/she was a better guitarist? Dancer? Influence? Muse? See how murky it all starts to get? Also, with the best will in the world, I've seen Sheila E talk and discuss Prince. Great drummer but not very articulate. You really think you'd get the same amount of info from her as you would from the people on these podcasts? Good luck with that.

I've never heard Eric Leeds sound so excited about Prince's music - his reaction to Dorothy Parker was beautiful.

I do wish there was more of his comments about the recording of this.

This is gearing up to be a wonderful podcast series.

Hearing his former lover and muse talk about the songs written for her, about her, and/or because of her is an absolute joy. What else can a Prince fan ask for?? We have a whole lotta more ground to cover regarding this time period. Just just sit back and enjoy it instead of nitpicking it to death! eek lol lol

I'm not listening with headphones so I can't say for sure, but it sounded like Wendy to me too (maybe a different take from what I remember hearing on the bootleg?)

I didn't think this point was controversial (or funny). If you knew anything about creativity, you'd know that creative types aren't especially good at verbalizing what they do. Sheila is a case in point (have you ever heard her talk)? And, of course, as this podcast underscores, neither is Prince. That's why you get people like Susan Rogers--articulate, knowledgable, interesting--to talk about what happened instead. They're not the creators. How is it possible you don't understand this?

YAASSSSSSS!!!!!! I was reminded of the online interview Prince did (as prince) for AOL in July of 1997. He was answering questions, supposedly asked by fans but I'm sure he got to pick and choose the questions - and one of them was:

*

"what was your inspiration for the song Forever In My Life?"

*

Prince replied: "Susannah. She knows."

*

OMG I loved that SOOOO much!! When did he EVER give that kind of personal info back then??! Coincidentally, I think that was about a month or so before she got married to Doyle. Things that make you go hmmmm hmmm biggrin

What???!!! That is one of the most absurd comments I've heard in a long time. Have you listened to Sheila's VERY long interview with Questlove on his podcast?? One of my favorites that he's done, and Sheila is quite articulate and easy to understand. SO degrading and insulting for you to even assume this is the reason why Sheila is not part of the first and second segments of this podcast.

*

Perhaps you don't recall that Sheila, during most of 1986 (March - December) was touring with her band, which included Miko, opening for Lionel Ritchie's US tour?? She was not around much during the period they've been discussing. I have NO doubt that when they begin discussing the rehearsals and the European tour Sheila will be front and center for those segments. I'm sure, if possible, they will also get Matt Fink, Miko, Levi, and Cat Glover too.

*

Yes, Susan Rogers is extremely smart and articulate. However, SHE WAS ALSO WITH PRINCE 24/7 DURINIG THIS TIME PERIOD WORKING AS HIS ENGINEER FOR ALL OF THIS MUSIC. So yeah, I'd say she is an important person to start these segments. Wendy, Lisa and Susannah were ALSO there ALL THE TIME from late '85 through most of '86, and they also PLAYED on many of the songs recorded during that period. So yeah, THEY are also important to include in these first segments which are actually focused on the first stages of developing the SOTT record.

WTF are you talking about??! Didn't you just write a post a few back implying that the reason Sheila was not included on the first and second segments of the SOTT Deluxe podcast is because they don't think she's "articulate enough" for the show?? Isn't that what you stated??

Yeah, I listened to it a couples times now and to my ears (which IMO there's no doubt) it's Wendy on lead vocals...on at least the snippet on the podcast anyway. Not sure why it'd be listed as a Prince vocal, but I'm not the estate, so...
