I listened to the Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis playlist this weekend. It was touching to hear the respect, admiration, gratitude and love they clearly have for Prince, especially given their strained relationship at times.

Jimmy Jam(whom now looks 20 years his junior) ALWAYS speaks eloquently of Prince(r.i.p.).

They are great though - detailed and entertaining, as well as, very relative to the music. LOVED their set. I hope they do more.

Back in 2009, she and Lisa did a show on LuxuriaRadio. Lisa had pretaped and mixed (almost up to the last minute) an almost-20 minute segment with Fink, Bobby, and Wendy's takes on the Rolling Stones gig (I think Brownmark was unavailable for some reason). Wendy was there, and talked about seeing a blur run past her. It was Prince jetting from the show headed home.

But yeah, they've done some radio before and they're good at it. Wendy is the talker more than Lisa, so she'll get out there and tell the story.

One thing I learned today while listening - and it's often been hotly debated so it's nice to have the final word - is who/what are the drums on "Lady Cab Driver." Some argue it's all live, some say it's all the Linn. Wendy laid it out. It was a kick & percussion on the Linn, and Prince played the snare and highhat and symbols on live drums. When I heard that, it just clicked. "Of course! I can totally hear it now!"

I love that they talked a lot about 1981-1982, and the "Moonbeam Levels," "Lady Cab Driver," and "Private Joy" stuff. What fun. And I had no idea it was just a big hot ass tent for the recording of "America" video, which was near the end of filming for UTCM. Her and Prince were running off stage afterward, breathing with oxygen tanks because it was so hot. She said that's why she had her shoes off at some point, too.

The story about "The Beautiful Ones" was great. I'd only heard Wendy say, "you are so...so in your element" when she heard the song. I had no idea Big Chick woke them up and pulled them out of bed because Prince wanted them to get in the car or whatever. haha That's a MFing Prince thing to do, too.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Yes, I listened Lisa's radio show about the Rolling Stones concert and loved it. They all had such great details about the experience. Wendy and Lisa had their own radio show going for awhile back in the early 2000's. They mentioned it on the Ameoba Records "What's In My Bag" video in 2010- which is also a great watch on YT if you haven't seen it.

I had read about America being filmed in the tent, but didn't know that Prince and Wendy needed oxygen masks after the shoot. Susannah talked about the recording of TBO during her interview with Toure, and said they could hear Prince screaming in the studio, and then they were all fallling asleep in the lounge waiting for Prince to finsih it, and he finally walked out of the studio at around 5:00 am and said "it's done."

*

I would LOVE to have them do another show, and focus on the Dream Factory/Crystal Ball tracks - All My Dreams, Power Fantastic, Witness For The Prosecution... I'd also love to hear Susannah talk about Movie Star, because it sounds like they recorded the vocals on that one together based on their verbal banter back and forth with each other. Prince sounds so happy on that song.

I remember that Toure interview, and Susannah's recollection doesn't really jive with theirs. Were they in the studio lounge listening to him recording it, and waiting for him to finish, or were they at home sleeping and woke up to a knock on the door? They seem to have somewhat foggy memories of some of the things they mention, like Moonbeam Levels being a 1999 b-side, and confusing the recording of America, the song, with the recording of the video the next year, with Wendy mentioning it being the final track on the Parade record. hmm

Well, clearly they were not writing daily journals of their day-to-day events back then, so yes, I imagine it takes a minute to put the details back into place, especially considering the schedule they were keeping and the amount of music they were recording during that time.

*

Based on Susannah's and W&L's accounts of TBO, it sounds like Chick went to their house, which was just a few blocks from Sunset Sound, and broughtt them back to the studio to listen to the track. They all have said Prince would call them to come in to the studio at all hours of the day and night. He didn't care if it was 3:00 am. It's more than likely that Prince was still locked in the studio finishing the song when they arrived, so they waited in the lounge for Prince to come out.

*

They are recalling events that happened 30+ years ago. The main point is that they heard the song as soon as it was completed at Sunset Sound.

I LOVED their selections and theshow yesterday and loved hearing the stories. But I noticed right away regarding Wendy's Moonbeam Levels and America mix-ups. But immediately forgave them. I mean seriously, don't ask me to remember, in detail, events that happened 30 years ago. I was sixteen and high a lot so memories are a little hazy.

Right. I think any of us would be hard pressed to conjure up exact details of daily events 30+ years ago, especially with the recording and performing schedule they had. They would have had to have kept a daily detailed written journal in order to be completely accurate. However, the main facts are there and their accounts are so appreciated and entertaining.

I wish that they would also make the 3121 RADIO segment available 4 streaming or at least do an encore of it.

I missed that part of it! How'd I miss that part? ALWAYS thought it was ALL Prince(r.i.p.) live on drums. But like U said I hear it now.But it's still really Prince(r.i.p.) doing everything which is remarkable. LCD put me in a COMPLETE trance when it first came out. I know EVERY instrument and voice on it & was in complete heaven listening to the re-master(whom I was the first to announce on here in early 2018-2019 that it was being released ).

I heard that 2009 interview back then.YES! Wendy is DEFINITELY the CONSTANT talker. But her insights are great. THANX for your brilliant, insightful, response it's quite welcomed but only without the added drama by "other people".

Huh? They still haven't played over 400 officially released Prince and Prince-written or -produced protégé songs. I've heard next-to-nothing from PR Deluxe, The B-sides disc, TBA, TGE, Emancipation, C&D, Crystal Ball, The Truth, OF4S, Rave Un2/In2, The Slaughterhouse, The Chocolate Invasion, PE, Lotusflow3r, 20Ten, AOA, PE, HnR 1 & 2, 1999 Deluxe, Originals... Also, few remixes and extended versions.

It's still good that there is this Prince Channel, but it could've been so much better.

Richard(whom I first encountered speeding down a busy, popular street in La while I was riding with his cousin who spotted him. He had to be going over a 100mph only caught up because of a red light.) said that quote criticizing Prince(r.i.p.) for putting out too much output. But little did he know Prince(r.i.p.)(whom he outlived) had to get out EVERYTHING he had inside of him before his time on earth lead him into his afterworld.

Glad u like it but a LOT is being overlooked.

I've bounced around all the channels that interest me and, for the most, don't hear much of anything that I don't already know. I've heard NOTHING fresh from the Stones and Zeppelin channels. The Bowie one offers some surprises but I'm also less familiar with his overall catalog so that's probably down to me wandering in, the same way anyone who doesn't post HERE might check out the Prince channel along similar lines.

Let's face it, we're hardcore here and probably 3/4 of us have heard something like 85% of the Prince stuff that's even out there anywhere. Maybe less. I LIKE Bowie, DIG the Stones and LOVE Led Zep but I WORSHIP Prince (and any list of my favorite musicians starts with him at #1) so, naturally, anyone's degree of surprise and fresh listens is going to vary depending upon their dedication level over the years.

Anyone who feels the same way about the other artists probably feels similar - nothing they don't already know.

But anything that gets it out there is a net positive in my book, especially when it's free.

I've been binging Howard Stern TBH. He LOVES Prince and my strategy is to spend time with Sirius to listen to shit I CAN'T get anywhere else (for the moment anyhow) and saving my podcast lists and shit for when the free stuff ends.

Really glad u dig the channel and are getting turned on to stuff you like. Don't take any shit from people tellling you you're listening wrong.
