Of course the first thing read was a "Sheila E. takeover," and I thought to myself, "how fucking appropriate" with a strong sideeye in play. She's been tryin' to take over Prince's life since April 22, 2016. The body wasn't even cold before ......well, that's another thread.

Lemon Cake Radio... lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

I'll CashApp you $1 if that turns out to be correct. LOL

I think it will go longer than May 31. Sirius is free “through May 31”. 6/1 would have to start paying

NPG Ahdio all over again? I want new material.

How do you know that?

(And I liked the Audio Shows for the most part)

Are u basing this on the (brief) snippet of Prince's original pitch in what must have been 2006 that Howard played? I mean...yeah...it could be that but keep in mind, mixed in with those shows were a lot of songs that MOST people never heard. TBH, if Prince were in control of it, we'd likely get LESS than what Sirius/The Estate might drop. I'm cautiously hopeful and Sirius DOES play Deep Cuts for thier dedicated channels but, for most people, that could be something off ONA Piano or Indigo Nights.

It COULD BE new stuff (and I hope so too). Depending on how much the estate is making off it and, more importantly, how it might conflict the exclusive deal with Tidal (which would SEEM to preclude hits/album tracks), it might end up being shit that they found that's ready for release.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see but I'm (semi) jazzed, especially since it's free.

I don't know. That's why I asked if it would be like the NPG Ahdios. I dug those releases too. But like others, I wanted more new material as opposed to what we had already heard. I am hopeful this venture will prove fruitful.

Literally one week back then. How generous to offer a full month now, wow. Maybe if we play our cards just right Sirius might just one day bestow upon us the magnanimous honor of 2 months....

Howard still a big Prince fan? I stopped listening to his show when it jumped the shark like when John Hein sold "Jump the Shark," but I gotta admit, he floored me that one time he started effortlessly name-checking every facet of the Batman soundtrack front-to-back like Fred name-drops Beatles outtakes, I thought he was just Purple Rain guy before that. It was solid fanboy nerding out... very, very solid.

Howard loves Prince. I think he was let down the one time he saw him live and, of course, goofs on him like he goofs on anyone but he digs him.

I would imagine you could just name the channel and it'll come on. That's how I pull one up. "Play Yacht Rock on SiriusXM" or "Play Studio 54 on SiriusXM." I hope it's midnight ET. That'd be schweet.

EDIT: IT'S ON NOW! I just asked "Play Prince Radio on SiriusXM" and voila, it started playing "Let's Go Crazy." I restarted it and it still played "Let's Go Crazy" again, so I don't know if that's all it's playing or it's just some stock songs until it actually goes live. We're watching TV, so I didn't listen long enough to hear anything else.

Update, more info? It goes live May 1, at 9am ET, per their site.

The Prince Channel is helping you party like it’s 1999 starting Friday, May 1 at 9am ET, with the late music icon’s career-spanning hits and exclusive content you will adore.

The Prince Channel will feature music from the GRAMMY®, Golden Globe and Academy Award® winner’s iconic catalog, from early recordings to his biggest hits, and will notably include an extraordinary audio performance: a never-before-heard demo of a conceptual radio show created by Prince for a Sirius Satellite Radio channel from 2005 that will air on Friday, May 1 at 7pm ET. Created by Prince around the release of his celebrated 3121 album, the show — running more than two hours — features songs from his unparalleled catalog, personal favorite selections by other artists, mixes, interviews, and a peek into his legendary vault of unreleased studio, and live recordings. Prince collaborated with DJ Rashida, who hosts the show, with Prince joining throughout. Comedian Katt Williams, who was a favorite of Prince’s, also pops in as “Ezekiel,” providing comedic relief through the full 2+ hours. Read more about the story behind the unreleased recording in the Vanity Fair piece “The Prince Radio Show That Never Was.”

The channel will also include a takeover from Sheila E., special playlists from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and SiriusXM’s recent Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute To Prince Town Hall, featuring Jimmy Jam, Sheila E., and H.E.R. Music by artists that Prince was closely connected to, inspired by, and collaborated with will also be featured. The Prince Channel will be available on the SiriusXM app in the Hip-Hop/R&B category.

SiriusXM has collaborated with acclaimed and iconic artists and their representatives to create personally curated audio experiences for listeners everywhere. The collection of exclusi...c channels launching on Friday, May 1 — and in conjunction with SiriusXM’s extended Stream Free period through May — are dedicated to megastars David Bowie, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, George Strait, Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Prince, and The Rolling Stones.

He was pissed Prince demanded to have the house lights shut off, right? That really didn't sound all that bad to me, I know Robin always tells the story of going to see him live and he just spun records all night, that sounds way worse.

I think you’re playing the “Prince” radio station that Sirius streams through Pandora. That’s different then the dedicated channel that streams tomorrow. You’ll know that for sure if there’s no commercial breaks or DJ cut-ins.

Vanity Fair: Inside the Prince Radio Show That Never Was

by Dan Adler

Long-story short: Yes, pretty much identical to the NPG Ahdio Shows.

They will be playing a 2 1/2 hour demo episode Prince and DJ Rasheeda made in 2005 for hypothetical Sirius channel "3121 Radio." Prince curated playlist... I like this Sirius-XM exec guy spinning it like some lost treasure the world must hear and not something he rejected and never spoke of again until many, many years after the dude transitioned.

[edit] Already posted! Leaving up anyway.... Will the Sheila E. set be branded "Lemon Cake Radio"?

They need to give all the associates a set for each era if we're gonna get Jam & Lewis and Sheila E., then jump wayy ahead to DJ Rasheeda in 3121 era.

The world needs a Tony M.: Rough, Rugged & Raw hip-hop set for the yoof, ya heard? So get your gun mics hoisted, your Game Boyz posters re-ordered to marquee size, and always remember For You's 27 instruments tagline was a typo: the 28th of course being true poetic street knowledge spittin' over a hype Prince beat. Sing it with me Daddy Pop.... POP DADDY, Rock the Party Like... NOBODY caayan.. Actually I forgot how that went, it's been a minute, I will admit,

ha, I love the YouTube comments on this... Hey Mikey, they like it... It's certainly less egregious than I remember anyway.

https://www.youtube.com/w...VWwcP5HERg

[edit] Ooohf, that second half... this is more like I remember now. Pleeez Tony, Don't Hurt 'Em.

Actually, I forgot to list that one, but yeah, it was in that first set of songs, I think before "Kiss."

So far, it's been quite good. Much better then the first run just after his tragic death. Agreed. We need to figure out a way to get this channel to permanent status (ala The Beatles channel). Support, support, tell friends to support, then support again...

So far it just seems like hits. Been off and on today and so far nothing new. Oh well...

Still kinda cool just having his entire catalog on random shuffle.

yeah, right now it's all hits. They played some deep cuts in the morning..Goodbye from Crystal Ball, something with Janelle Monae, the b-side to cinnamon girl that wasn't released everywhere, and some live clips (Vegas was one).

Just played Mutiny by Prince and New Power Generation. Sounded like Arsenio Hall show not rehearsal. That was never officially released as a download or single was it? I may have missed it if it was.. Now they are playing U Know. Been listening off and on and have been pleasantly surprised. Heard United States of Division earlier.

Agree. Would be great if they keep this channel and start playing concerts, guest djs. Similar format to Estreet radio.

Prince(r.i.p) would be proud looking down in his afterlife of this channel. Most people don't know Prince(r.i.p.) wrote and recorded THOUSANDS of songs for him & others. People are still in shock from the Grammy tribute that didn't know he wrote ALL of Sheila's & The Time's material among others.
