Playing "Stand Back" I would not say he WROTE it. But I do like the song.

agree but there are a lot of music fans tuning in to the Prince Channel that do not know he had a hand in helping that song along. My wife gets tired of hearing me say "Prince wrote that song" or "that song was recorded at Paisley park" when songs are played on the radio or Siriusxm lol

I was on a car ride and someone put on some "Deep Cuts" Prince play list and they were astonished I knew all the songs and where (Most came from: some of the last albums I admit I do not know as well even if I know the songs)

Somebody either in Questlove supreme or one of these podcasts made an anecdote that Kitt was kicked out of a Prince party once, I don’t remember the details, so I was pleasantly surprised to read about his (Kitt) involvement in this project. Talented comedian and yes troubled, but I still hope he will get a big break.

Big break!? Katt(whom I've had the pleasure of seeing perform just 8 months after Prince{r.i.p.} transitioned) was the TOP in his field @ one point for YEARS. I don't know what other big break he could get. He also is LOT like Prince(r.i.p) and marches to the beat of a different drummer. It's no one else like him. I was so looking forward to seeing him with Prince(r.i.p.).Even though I couldn't imagine him doing a show without swearing.

This is Katt's new movie movie coming out June 16th with one of my favorite comedians Jay Pharoah called 2minutesOfFAme.

I really like Katt. Him and Dj Quik are the best at being amazingly funny and at the same time being straight up real and never forget who they are or where they come from. Love them both! That's why I think Prince liked Katt back then.

It is repeative, with about 50 produced albums they sure seem to stick close to the hits.

Yes, it's about 90% repetitive. I've heard "Scandalous", "Partyman", and "Batdance" each at least 5 times since Friday; while I love the songs, what about the rest of the soundtrack? And then the big hits are in constant rotation.

However, I was pleased that they played "Poom Poom" and "Objects In The Mirror". But there at least 400 other non-single Prince songs that they seem to be skipping over.

Some of the live 3121 songs are nice 2 hear, but Sirius isn't providing detailed track info (recording date and place), which is a little annoying.

The snippets of interviews with people in Prince's orbit are also nice and breaking up the hits parade.

Yeah I don't like that there's no info on the live tracks. Are they all from the 3132 era?

No, they have also been playing live trax from ONA and 1999 tours, but it's usually obvious when the trax are from those tours; obvious because of the style of the production. There have been seen other random live versions from other eras too. Perhaps the Sirius platform for song information can't give more details.

The estates going to limit what is played simply because their protecting their monetary assets. I don't know why its taken them so long to figure out that a digital platform of their own would rake $$ in if they released live concerts & aftershows both audio & video. The fanbse isn't getting any younger & their opportunity to monetize will only go down the longer they wait.

They keep trying to market Prince like he's some generic 80s pop hit maker of yesteryear and not one of the most prolific/active musicians with one of the deepest/expansive catalogues of all time. A better/more unique and dare I say more interesting to new fans angle would be playing up the obscure ends and nooks and crannies of his data bank, but, alas, they're going to keep trying to grab those Purple Rain numbers..... twelfth times the charm. Batman Deluxe, 'round the bend.

Anyone checked any of the other channels?

I tried the Led Zep, Stones and Bowie ones for a bit a few times and pretty much heard mostly hits - nothing that took me off guard - but I would guess there's some live/deep cuts in there somewhere. Caught a few lesser played album tracks but it was all stuff I've heard before.

I'd love some live exclusive Stones, Zep or Bowie tracks. Is it worth sticking it out because I already know Tumbling Dice, Fool in the Rain and The Man Who Sold the World.

the also played "avalanche" (live i think) and a few other live songs and "With This Tear" by Celine Dion and the 94 East song "Lovin Cup" and but really very few songs not on the Hits... (they played "When 2 R in Love" (with the Black Album art) twice!

I've heard SoTT, Let's GO Crazy, Soft and Wet and I Wanna B Your Lover a LOT. But occassionally I hear a deeper cut and, sometimes but rarely, a new one. There have been a couple live tracks that felt new to me and some lesser known stuff like The Ballad of Dorothy Parker and I'm Yours but we're hardcore, know his entire catalog and have The Thirst.

Still pretty cool though. Especially since it's free so hard to bitch about it.

Is there a thread somewhere for the other channels? Maybe worth starting one in the Other Artists forum but those are deader than dead. Anyone here a fan of the Stones, Led Zep and Bowie who's checked those channels out?

Probably just comes down to the hardcore fan base either way.

The dedicated Springsteen channel listeners, like us, have have pretty much heard it all, trade shit and have a ton of bootlegs. Unlike fans of Prince, however, their guy is still alive.

Dedicated fans of any artist want all they can get.

I think it says something that our man warrants his own channel and that right now maybe some tangential fan is heariing Cololonized Mind or Beautiful Strange for the first time. Just getting the stuff out there, especially for free, seems like a net positive no matter how we critique the set list.

Yes?

I actually like Batdown, but the fact that they play it so much shows that it mostly by the numbers. They probably just saw that it was one of his biggest Billboard hits ever and didn't consider the context of what made it such a big hit as people were just so stoked about the upcoming Batman movie when it was released.

But hey, it was number one so people must want to hear it all the time in 2020 and rush home and put the Batman video in the VCRs lol.

Prince's(r.i.p.) fanbase are the most ungrateful out of ANY fanbase of any other artist. This channel is GROUNDBREAKING! It will bring him millions of more new fans.

I feel like "elitist" is more befitting than "ungrateful." And given Prince himself was hyper-critical and over-protective of others playing his music, it's pretty much just being led by example... Most fan communities tend to be extensions of the artists they are fans of.
