Original, unreleased “Old Friends 4 Sale”?!?! And this is unauthorized, right?? Nice!!

just went back and checked through the sirius player and yep, it's the original version. that's really weird but welcome. i wonder where they're pulling this stuff from. who knows what else they'll play if they played that.

Was it with strings or without?

The caller was Katt Williams

Listen2Prince !!

U can listen to a different Prince project every week for a year! Sometimes U might have to double (or triple) up on related albums to make it fit, tho.

If only there was some way to figure this out by... I don't know... clicking the handful of links in this thread?

...

ahem...anyhow

I was honestly surprised to learn that was Kat Williams on that 3121 thing. I would have sworn it was Prince doing a character but Aistotle said it was Williams. Are you sure? I was never a fan of The Dance either and hadn't listened to it in probably a decade. Hearing it with new ears, it actually kind of grew on me.

I liked that 3121 demo more than I thought I would and really dug the other he mixed in. It all seemed to fit. Hope they archive it because I missed the back end that had some of the live stuff. Last track I heard was The Dance or the Joni Mitchell one.

Beautiful Strange was amazing and I want to hear it again.

This whole thing is really cool, even if it's overly hit/album track laiden. Gonna get me through work for the next month at least. Right now there's a live version of Strollin that makes that song tolerable.

Still curious how they worked this out with Tidal and all that though.

The Prince Channel needs more Prince today; I do not want several Michael Jackson/5 songs nor music from others.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Here is a quote from Variety's write up:

While Prince speaks at a couple of points during the show, many people are likely to think that an often-hilarious character named Ezekiel who calls in several times during the show is Prince — it’s actually comedian Katt Williams.

Hope this helps!

What are talking about? I’ve been listening for the last two hours and the only “non-Prince” thing they played was The Screams of Passion.

I bet laytonian hit the PANDORA station instead by mistake. It's channel 30 on SIRIUSXM or you can search PRINCE on the APP or website. typing call

That is EXACTLY why I never listen to the Prince channel on Pandora. If I wanted Michael Jackson, I’d listen to the Michael Jackson channel. 😂

The live-segment with Tamár is from 25 February 2006 @ Orpheum Theatre, MPLS, right?

So obviously the radio show demo cannot be recorded in 2005 as announced by Sirius...

I listened for about 2 hours last night, and surprised myself by liking even the non-Prince portions they played. It would be nice if we could get an advance playlist of what is coming up and when, but hey, I'll take this. Yeah, I didn't find out until later on that the caller was Katt. How crazy. Is it going to have new music every evening, or do we know?

Yeah! I was thinking the same thing as well! But also was doubting "2005" because of the 3121 trax played in the segment, unless they were ready before the end of 2005. The album came out on March 21st, 2006, so they may have been ready.

I hope that they re-broadcast 3121 RADIO as I have many friends that missed it last night.

Also, I'm starting 2 find that there's too much repetition of hits on the regular Prince Channel playlist. Perhaps if they limited themselves 2 no more than 3 Top-50 singles per hour they'd have 2 play more non-singles.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. That is definitely the February 2006 Támar show (I was there). They got their date wrong.

Although Katt never expressed his admiration in his sets or wrote anything special about Prince, I always felt that there was some connections. His pimp gimmick aside, he too had that rude boy aura. Maybe it was the hair cool

I love the idea of this thing, but after listening for a few days, the channel seems to have Clear Channel-itis. It's the same rotation of songs all day, some of them multiple times a day, with a few odball choices thrown in. I think whoever is deciding on the playlists could be doing a better job. I just stumbled upon a Prince playlist on Soundcloud that smokes anything on the official Prince channel.

After listening to the 3121 Radio show again, I'm thinking that while it's a great to hear the gems we didn't have before, there needs to be more. Rashida is a pretty lifeless host, and it's not strong enough an exclusive to build a Prince radio station around. They need to follow it up with more exclusives, and if they don't have any, they could certainly put more effort into the daily playlists. Shit, start replaying the Ahdio shows or something.

Katt(whom shared a hairdresser with Prince{r.i.p.}) was orginally billed to open 4 Prince(r.i.p.) @ 3121Vegas. He was advertised on the billboards in the Rio hotel one of the several times I attended Prince(r.i.p.) residency there. But the deal fell through. So it was a secret "friendship" they had together.

Somebody either in Questlove supreme or one of these podcasts made an anecdote that Kitt was kicked out of a Prince party once, I don’t remember the details, so I was pleasantly surprised to read about his (Kitt) involvement in this project. Talented comedian and yes troubled, but I still hope he will get a big break.

agree but there are a lot of music fans tuning in to the Prince Channel that do not know he had a hand in helping that song along. My wife gets tired of hearing me say "Prince wrote that song" or "that song was recorded at Paisley park" when songs are played on the radio or Siriusxm lol
