Probably just comes down to the hardcore fan base either way.

The dedicated Springsteen channel listeners, like us, have have pretty much heard it all, trade shit and have a ton of bootlegs. Unlike fans of Prince, however, their guy is still alive.

Dedicated fans of any artist want all they can get.

I think it says something that our man warrants his own channel and that right now maybe some tangential fan is heariing Cololonized Mind or Beautiful Strange for the first time. Just getting the stuff out there, especially for free, seems like a net positive no matter how we critique the set list.

Yes?

[Edited 5/4/20 18:39pm]

Prince's(r.i.p.) fanbase are the most ungrateful out of ANY fanbase of any other artist.

I don't know if I agree with that but I get why you'd think that.

The thing is, unlike most other artists, Prince made it harder to hear his stuff while bands like The Greatful Dead, U2, Led Zep, etc. encouraged the sharing of music in a more open way and made better use of their websites for the most part.

Some would posit that it's the opposite, in fact; that Prince had a more adversarial relationship with his fans than most artists and it's a fair enough argument to make (suing fan sites, policing the internet, etc.)

Yeah, on some artists' fan sites, fans can freely share bootlegs...

Or aren't even prohibited from openly recording bootlegs at live shows.

Anyone checked any of the other channels?

I tried the Led Zep, Stones and Bowie ones for a bit a few times and pretty much heard mostly hits - nothing that took me off guard - but I would guess there's some live/deep cuts in there somewhere. Caught a few lesser played album tracks but it was all stuff I've heard before.

I'd love some live exclusive Stones, Zep or Bowie tracks. Is it worth sticking it out because I already know Tumbling Dice, Fool in the Rain and The Man Who Sold the World.

Oh man, I totally forgot about Bowie and Zep channel! I amenjoying ch. 30 Prince and prince.org radio right now.

I think we've got a better chance of hearing OG "Extraloveable" at this point.

When I launch it on the app or website it always starts a song and I have to push "live"...seems odd vs. when in the car.

.

.

Also can't find the Program Guide describing what's coming up on the channel

CoolMF

Really enjoying this and hope that it becomes permanent. I've heard some great old joints (like the Escape/Glam Slam remix) and stuff I've never heard before (both Anna Stesia and Starfish and Coffee live) and I'm enjoying the anecdotes from the associate artists.

*

Still stalking the channel when I can to hear this live Beautiful Strange that I keep reading about...

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (one of them) were telling the story of "Kiss" and got it half right. He suggested that Prince did not write it bit that Brownmark wrote it. When Prince heard it he just took it. SMH. But I know someone who is often astounded that the fans know more about their work that they do.

Sheila's playlist was OK....but Jimmy & Terry were more in-depth.

One thing that bothered me was that J&T weren't deep in knowledge of some tracks (Kiss was NOT brought to Prince by Brownmark, it was the other way around and then he took it back). Also, they made it seem like they played the music on the records. They were the "live" band but those first two records were 90% Prince.

I think they thought they'd get stuff over on us. I respect their experience but sometimes they talked about things they weren't involved in. Like TheTime recordings LOL.

You can replay the associated artists' sessions ON DEMAND right now.

NO THEY DIDN'T! They specifically said the record was done when they came along. Speaking of the first album. Also they said Morris and Prince(r.i.p.) took 6 months to do it & Morris played the drums on every track.

Who?

By the way, who is singing "Nasty Girl" in those bumpers? It sure doesn't sound like Vanity 6. Am I missing something here?

Heard 'em play George's take on "Erotic City" earlier today. And "She Loves Me 4 Me".

I've been enjoy this channel like crazy with two glaring exceptions:

Marian Carey's cover of "The Beautiful Ones" is coma inducing. They both sound like they're about to drop dead any second and is about as exciting to listen to as it is watching cars rust. The vocals on this recording have the same emotional impact as a loaf of stale bread.

D'Angelo's cover of "She's Always In My Hair". Hearing his nasal voice drone completely off-time to the music makes me want to punch babies.

Remove these two pieces of audio pollution from the playlist and the programming would, pretty much, be darn-near perfect.

Just saying....

Who's the private d*ck that's a sex machine to all the chicks?
Who's the man that would risk his neck for his brother man?
Who's the cat who won't cop out when there's danger all about?
John Shaft ... Damn Right!

To me is sounds like that Nasty Girl cover is by Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls).

Thanks for the tip about On Demand (though I can't find a way to download it to my phone).

.

.

I wonder if Sheila picked all 5 hours of the songs or just the ones she introduces, cuz they just played Thieves in the Temple which she wasn't around for nor did she say anything.

.

.

I just got to the part talking about the Musicology performance at MSG; I was there and her description was totally accurate! smile

Enjoying Sirius channel 30, but why are they playing the version of "Adore" that fades out before the song ends. I think The Hits compilation faded it out too.

But Why???

Once he says "Be with me darling to the end of all time" The next lines are exquisite. (you know the rest)

They're playing other extended tracks of songs and I can't get a good, clear, complete "Adore"?

When it comes on, I turn off the radio.

I listened to the Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis playlist this weekend. It was touching to hear the respect, admiration, gratitude and love they clearly have for Prince, especially given their strained relationship at times.
