Sirius Radio Announces Prince Channel According to Howard Stern just now. He says there's a deal with the estate to do an exclusive Prince Channel. I didn't catch the date but I think it'll be out soon
https://player.siriusxm.com/home/howard
Sirius is free to stream right now so you can listen to today's show about 55 minutes in. Apparently Prince wanted to do it also and created a 3 hour "demo" for them once.
He plays parts of it around the one hour mark. It's just a little trippy intro into the song "3121"
Also being added: Bowie, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zep, Guns N Roses, Metallica, Stones and a few others are getting channels.

So is this a limited time thing or will it be permanent (like the Springsteen channel)? I wonder who will oversee it? It would be great if this channel included lots of live performances. Paisley Park is in your heart

It think it'll be a regular thing. I'd imagine Sirius' program directors would run it based on whatever the estate lets them use. What I wonder is how/if this conflicts with the Tidal deal.

oh poop. Missed that detail.
Still cool that we'll get it free since they extended the free streaming through the end of May.
Wonder what constitutes "exclusive content". Hopefully we'll get something new that even us die hards might not have heard before.

C'mon Sirius, give the dude his own permanent channel. If the likes of Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Elvis, and goddamn Phish can take up space on satellite radio indefinitely, I don't see how Prince isn't worthy. |

this would be a really cool way to get some live shows out there... though i'm honestly not expecting anything other than basic album cuts. hope to be proven wrong. |

No one ever said that. You have no idea what is going to end up on that channel.

You can click on Howard and bring up the most current show online and listen onDemand, wherever you want in the show (opposed to sitting thru the show just to get to that section again). The Prince part is before the David Letterman interview.
They play a part of the intro of the show with Rashida. "best music, biggest hits, rare recordings"
SiriusXM is still free for everyone (including Howard 100 and Howard 101) until May 15. You don't need a credit card to sign up, either. I've been enjoying my Yacht Rock Radio (ch 178) and the 80s on 8 lately while it's free.
Springsteen, Ozzy, Jimmy Buffet and plenty others have a station to program on there. I just tweeted the other day asking why SiriusXM hasn't made a deal to have a Prince station yet. Clearly, it was already in the making.
Just an FYI: sometimes these vanity channels are temporary, sometimes they go permanent. So if it disappears in six months, you'll know why.

Duh! I just hope it's not like the Ahdios. Obviously we don't know what to expect. I'm well aware that no one has ever said it will be like NPG Audio. [Edited 4/29/20 10:44am]klick |

Pretty f'ing cool!! Wondering though what would need to happen to make this channel permanent? He has enough material. Plus, he's as (if not MORE) relevant then some of the artists who have permanent channels on the platform.
I remember the first time they did this (after his tragic death in 2016), it wasn't "authorized". That's why I at least thought it couldn't be sustained. But now, it is authorized by the estate. Maybe that opens the door to have it a full time, permamnent thing?
Fingers crossed... [Edited 4/29/20 11:57am] |

Yay, looking forward, thank you. Now I want to hear the 2hr unreleased 3121 demo that he recorded w DJ Rashida. I haven’t read through the other links here yet so don’t know if it’s already referenced here, but I just read about this demo in a Vanity Fair article. Anyway, something to look forward to this weekend! |

Created by Prince around the release of his celebrated 3121 album, the show — running more than two hours — features songs from his unparalleled catalog, personal favorite selections by other artists, mixes, interviews, and a peek into his legendary vault of unreleased studio and live recordings. Prince collaborated with DJ Rashida, who hosts the show, with Prince joining throughout. Comedian Katt Williams, who was a favorite of Prince’s, also pops in as “Ezekiel,” providing comedic relief through the full 2+ hours.

Well, certainly no one here is gonna disagree with that. I think the Ahdio's started well, but they ended up being club mixes someone mixed with MixMeister or whatever. I do like the one after 9/11, but after they stopped putting stuff from the Parade shows in it, etc., I lost interest. There is great potential here, even if it's a limited time, so I'll be cautiously tuning in May 1.

Of course the first thing read was a "Sheila E. takeover," and I thought to myself, "how fucking appropriate" with a strong sideeye in play. She's been tryin' to take over Prince's life since April 22, 2016. The body wasn't even cold before ......well, that's another thread. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

Same, but who knows?
Apparently the estate is involved and, at one time, Prince himself expressed interest during the 3121 period. Howard played a snippet of Prince's "demo". Remains to be seen whether we'll get a month long stream of "Raspberry Beret - 12 inch" and "Gett Off" or something fresh but I'm holding out hope for the latter.
Sirius is known for Deep Cuts on thier dedicated artist's channels so...maybe?

Gee, I wonder what this post might have said before it got clipped?
Lemme take a guess...
Something about telling me to use the search function, calling me a lazy idiot or linking to another thread that beat me to the punch that I somehow missed?
Nah...it must have said "hey, cool! thanks for posting this. Hadn't heard that!"
Why did u delete it, you charming (petty, rude and mean) individual, you? Someone beat you to a scoop?
I already know what it said.

How do you know that?
(And I liked the Audio Shows for the most part)
Are u basing this on the (brief) snippet of Prince's original pitch in what must have been 2006 that Howard played? I mean...yeah...it could be that but keep in mind, mixed in with those shows were a lot of songs that MOST people never heard. TBH, if Prince were in control of it, we'd likely get LESS than what Sirius/The Estate might drop. I'm cautiously hopeful and Sirius DOES play Deep Cuts for thier dedicated channels but, for most people, that could be something off ONA Piano or Indigo Nights.
It COULD BE new stuff (and I hope so too). Depending on how much the estate is making off it and, more importantly, how it might conflict the exclusive deal with Tidal (which would SEEM to preclude hits/album tracks), it might end up being shit that they found that's ready for release.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see but I'm (semi) jazzed, especially since it's free.

Didn't they do this for like a week once already? Am I imagining that?
[edit] yep, 2016:
https://www.billboard.com...e-channnel
Literally one week back then. How generous to offer a full month now, wow. Maybe if we play our cards just right Sirius might just one day bestow upon us the magnanimous honor of 2 months....
Howard still a big Prince fan? I stopped listening to his show when it jumped the shark like when John Hein sold "Jump the Shark," but I gotta admit, he floored me that one time he started effortlessly name-checking every facet of the Batman soundtrack front-to-back like Fred name-drops Beatles outtakes, I thought he was just Purple Rain guy before that. It was solid fanboy nerding out... very, very solid. [Edited 4/29/20 23:19pm] |
