It's important that fans support this release. If it doesn't sell well, there's a chance that we won't get those other 'Super Deluxe Editions' that we want so bad.Buy a copy of this set, folks! Buy another copy to give as a Christmas gift!

I completely agree, but some fans think that if they shell out money for this release the Estate might think that they did a great job and this kind of sets is what we want and will only get instead of proper, full on, questionable lyrics and all releases.

Smart move by the Elite Fans. I mean, if this set doesn't sell, the lesson Warners and the Estate will definitely take from it is that future releases need to be more rapey.

I'll be getting one for Christmas, but there are a LOT of reasons for poor sales, and it has nothing to do with quality.

1. The price of this -- even the CD version -- is very steep.
2. This is streaming on Spotify, YouTube etc. for free.
3. There was a full-quality leak of this before the release date.
4. People just are not buying physical releases like they used to (extension of #2).

I'm of the opinion that A) support the Estate so that more stuff like this will come out and B) I've heard a lot of this as bootleg, and it's only right to buy it since it's now available.

The fact that this release was put around Xmas time and it has been very very hard to track down hasn't done the sales any favors.I am sure this release will sell much more down the line.

It is a different time for album sales, take into account the box set is expensive, that is not a suprise. That is different than saying it is selling less than projected by the Estate - Rolling Stone reported going into the top 200 with #31, with 95 percent of those who purchased it going for the physical edition. That is quite good

I was gifted the Super Deluxe set and it just arrived and was ordered from the Prince website. First of all, they need to get this stuff out a hell of a lot faster than it is coming out. We were notified it shipped the 28th and it took too long to get here. I'd have expected an order right from the site to be here within 2 or 3 days at the most. Secondly, both the estate as well as the myriad of other people out there selling Prince materials need to be a lot smarter in their timing. Releasing such a massive set of music, along with several books by other artists in the month prior to/running into the Christmas season is just plain stupid. People are shopping for gifts and the timing is just terrible to be releasing this stuff. Unless one is well off, it's tough to come up with several hundred dollars extra to make personal purchases now.

Maybe you'd get it as a Christmas present! wink

I'm pretty sure that, by now, the concensus is that the CDs aren't overpriced - the vinyl is. And at $22 per record, it is overpriced. That means we're paying $44 for a vinyl copy of 1999. They don't need to add Extraloveable or Lust U Always - the set is rapey enough at that price point.

I had it pre-ordered on Amazon. I realized that there is not too much that I want and that this would be a good thing to put on my Christmas list. I planned to buy it myself though because I wanted the autorip from Amazon to be linked to my account, since it makes it much easier to access through multiple devices. Once I saw that Autorip was not included, I cancelled my preorder and included it on the Christmas wish list after all.

There's a big difference between made up song lyrics or passages in a book or scenes in a movie and real rape.
It's really sad that were living in a age when people can't see the difference anymore of Prince or whoever singing about raping someone and Cosby/Epstein/Weinstein who actually do those things.

So, if people are so butthurt about some fantasy lyrics from Prince then stop supporting this mean man.
Or if people are so oversensitive than smack a warning label on the releases so people can avoid being butthurt. (I know, many people only look for 'offences' or act offended these days just to whine for 'clicks' and 'likes' on there shitty social media site.)

It is a bit ironic that the man who inspired the Parental Advisory label was posthumously censored by his own estate. lol

Sad indeed, these people running the show just can't be trusted with anything reagrding his music.
First they say they won't ever edit or change anything in his recording and then proceed to do just that on the last releases and now they're even cencoring him and treat his fans like children.

It's weird that they would state their intentions as such when there's hundreds (or more?) people out there who can literally point to LOTS of songs and be like, "Nope. That's wrong."

He wasn't really censored though. They didn't go back and edit any of the original 1999 content, like "I sincerely wanna fuck the taste out of your mouth". THAT would be censorship. All that stuff is still on the record.

The Estate chose to not release two songs that had previously also not been released. It's not really censorship . . . if anything, it's status quo.

Releasing them -- but editing/altering them -- would be censorship.

It wouldn't be censorhip had Michael Howe not explained the reasoning.

.

https://www.britannica.co...censorship

.

Censorship, the changing or the suppression or prohibition of speech or writing that is deemed subversive of the common good.

.

It is textbook (literally) censorship in this context.

Reminder that Horny Toad was included on disc 2 and nobody said one word about it despite it being way more gross than Extraloveable or Lust U Always or the scream at the end of DSMR or sections of Let's Pretend We're Married. There's nothing really playful about it despite it being an uptempo song.

If I had your number I'd call you on the phone
I'd breathe real heavy, if that didn't work
Maybe I'll start to groan
I don't love you, I'm just a horny toad

I don't want your money 'cause I got all I need
All I want is to rub your body
Until you start to bleed
I don't love you, I'm just a horny toad

If I had your address I'd come right to your door
I'd knock all day till you let me in
And then I'd knock some more
I ain't crazy, I'm just a horny toad

If you think I'm nasty, you ain't seen nothin' yet
You see, I'm the kinda brother that the more you scream
The nastier I get
I can't help it, I'm just a horny toad

Run, go tell your boyfriend his lovin' has got too old
He might as well pack his things
And get his dead ass on the road
Tell him you live on a lily pad
With a horny toad

Too bad Prince didn't release Crystal Ball 2. If he did, Extralovable and Lust U Always would've been included on this set.

Prince was probably 24 at the time of this song's inception and I appreciate his honesty and rawness but he was clearly awash in testosterone...but I happen to like that in a man.

IMO, Michael H. needs to navigate the current social climate, though.

But Horny Toad was okay? What about the title itself, Irresistable Bitch? The sex scenario of LDC, the pervert statements in LPWM, etc etc. Now Im kind of feeling the criticism due to the "hypocriticism" of not worrying abut the other lascivous songs included in his catalogue with nary a wince.

I heard from some fans who didn't buy it and they said that a lot of fans are boycotting this release for ommitting to many essential tracks and Howe's comments on not releasing Extra Loveable and Lust U Always.
These fans are content with downloading the FLACs of this release and will buy the eventual more complete version when done right or better.

If that is true, man I really find some fans to be quite crazy. Like, boycotting this release over 2 songs we can already hear on bootlegs anyways, for not being included? This release was done "right", no matter what a very vocal and very very little minority think

Yes, yes... I think the overwhelming reception has been positive so the estate can rest easy knowing both that the fans were pleased and the world shall not be exposed to Prince's egregiously insensitive candor.

You know, other than the stuff about forcibly rubbing someone until she bleeds.

The Howe edict has me re-analyzing all cuts both album and outtake for possible social firestorms of epic #hashtag proportions.

Like everyone flipping out over the "Head" encore on the DVD, so I was jamming along. "Love you 'til you're dead" Ahem... What? "'Love you 'til you're dead?" So rape bad, Necrophilia good, is this the message of one Howe/Comerica/Estate industries et. al? I'm just trying to keep score for us at home.
