the year after his passing I couldn't listen to any other music and though I loved his music since '84 I discovered so much unheared and learned to love tracks and periods I didn't dig before.

but I started to listen to other music beside prince again during the last months ... right now mostly older stuff like rolling stones, queen, hendrix, bruce springsteen, santana, supertramp, peter gabriel, U2, billy idol, billy joel, pink floyd, fleetwood mac, janice joplin, millie jackson or helen schneider

the only love there is is the love we make heart

I will go months without listening to any Prince music.... because there are thousands of other brilliant artists with hundreds of thousands of hours of brilliant output to explore and listen to... how anyone could want to only listen to PRince (or even mostly Prince) is beyond me...

[Edited 8/5/17 4:36am]

This. That's so boring. I tried that crap shortly after he died and got SO BORED. And it only took me about a month before I was like NOPE I CAN'T. As it stands, Prince is... only one of the artists I listen to, and not very much at that. I've got into digging up Seal's entire catalog (okay, it isn't a big one, but what he produces is worth the wait.) and getting it together to hear.

I imagine myself inside your bedroom; oh, I imagine myself in your sky.

I can't imagine listening to just any one artist (even if it is Prince!)

Some of my other favourite artists:

Nick Cave

Tom Waits

Primal Scream

Bowie

Primus

Beck

The Rolling Stones

Jamiroquai

Leonard Cohen

Bob Dylan

Radiohead

I've got into many artists through Prince, like Joni Mitchell, Sly Stone, Funkadelic, Santana, Esperanza Spalding, and The Cocteau Twins.

Great, Bob and Leonard.

Oh, I'll never forget about Bob, he's a part of my life. Have you heard the Bob Dylan parody on Frank Zappa's Sheik Yerbouti LP? It's great fun!

I haven't, what's your favorite Bob's song? mine is either Like A Rolling Stone or To Ramona.

Forgot to say I spent 2016 listening to Esperanza Spalding´s last album. Never was a big fan of her, but that one is amazing

For those who want to listen to ´real music´ from this generation and cant stand the Biebers, and such, I recommend:

- Kamasi Washington

- Thundercat (George Clinton said he was like the 21st Century Bootsy, and that means a lot)

- Jacob Collier (extremely talented and young multi instrumentalist)

Search for them on Youtube and enjoy smile

[Edited 8/5/17 21:32pm]

Love Thundercat and collaborator Flying Lotus.

'Drunk' is my favourite album of the year so far.

I listen to just about everything except death metal, I'm open to new artists and my iTunes show it lol. That's how my dad raised me, he always said music is music we don't break music down to genres in this house 😂 It also depends on how I'm feeling, I have listen to various artists from Lee Oskar to Justin Timberlake to Red Hot Chilli Peppers J Cole Rod Stewart Bob Segar Phil Collins and Shirley Caesar & Inez Andrews. My tastes are all over the place, chances are if you name them, I listen to them.I love that my iPod will go from James Cleveland to Nine Inch Nails and Chris Stapelton with Chance The Rapper in queue I love it!

I've ran into a lot of fans that allegedly only listen to Prince, and I find them to be the hardest to have an honest conversation with, and also the most obnoxious, turns me off!

GustavoRibas said:

Of course. Lots of music. From Metallica to Miles Davis. From Kendrick Lamar to Red Hot Chili Peppers. From Living Colour to Tom Jobim. And The Police, Steely Dan, Led Zep, Van Halen, brazilian music, cuban music, PFunk, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, KISS, Whitesnake, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Thundercat, George Michael, Thelonious Monk, Chet Baker, Esperanza Spalding, Jamiroquai, Bowie, Tears for Fears, Deep Purple, Jaco Pastorius, Highly Suspect, Bruno Mars, etc etc etc

.
And, to be honest, sometimes I get very bored with some Prince fans that only listen to him and think only he could deliver good music (or ´real music´)

That's a fine album for sure. And he still plays Tangled Up In Blue live. With ever evolving lyrics. I also love Lily, Rosemary & the Jack of Hearts and other epic storytelling songs that go on forever like Desolation Row, Hurricane, Brownsville Girl, Tin Angel and Tempest.

- Cool! I love my dad, but I definitely didnt want to be like him in this subject. He only liked cool jazz and bossa nova. Not even 60s rock. When I grew up, loving Van Halen, Scorpions and such, I used to hear some rockers saying that ´rock music died in 75´ and I didnt want to be a dinosaur like them.
I admit I almost became one in the last 10 years, because mainstream pop sounded the same, like all artists had the same producer, but I am happy I can appreciate some talented people from this generation (that I mentioned before). Of course, Prince is number one, and the only artist I am a fan, but my playlist is very eclectic.

It's so nice to have a diverse taste in music. just listening to one thing all the time is so mind numbing to me, even if it is Prince honestly..I just don't understand how people can listen to only 1 genre or person 24/7, 365

He sounds depressed on there. Like Another Side of Bob Dylan is its chirpier happy sibling (also '64). He kinda forgot about melody, which i think dylan needs to produce really good albums.

Yes I am adamantly of that opinion. He's done great songs since 78 of course. I have the same problem with Bowie since 87. Melody is the most important denominator in music.
