"Father's Song" is also available for purchase from ITunes. I LOVE it! My review:

The third tidbit released from the disc of outtake goodies on the deluxe edition of Purple Rain, "Father's Song" sees Prince showcasing his soundtrack score skills. In the film, the song is played by The Kid's father alone on the piano after a fight with his wife that left her bruised and alone sitting by the curbside. The Kid later plays it by ear himself, and then interpolates it into the bridge of "Computer Blue" as a visceral electric guitar exorcism.

This version is extended well beyond what was shown in the film. It starts as the familiar, plaintive piano motif for just under 2 minutes before adding increasingly processed synthesizers that add a grittiness to the track that I adore. These synths don't sound that far removed from the atmospheric soundscapes Giorgio Moroder produced during his stint as 80s soundtrack king. Some may have preferred the song to remain a pure piano piece, but the added textures are perfectly welcome in my book, as they augment the ache that echoes throughout the version shown in the film.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

not knocking the release of another song, but is anyone going to be giving a song as a father's day gift? It seems like an odd tie-in.

Yeah, didn't he find the sheet music the morning after he knocked over all those shelves in the movie?

Yeah, and played Purple Rain by ear after listening to W&L's tape though. AKA one of the best parts of the movie imo.

He just went straight into Computer Blue after the fathers Song segment

It's the shrink-wrapped final product, with the stickers advertising the new songs and "with Extensive Liner Notes, a Track-by-Track and Rare Photos"

Heard Fathers Song... I really like the synths... Really gives it kind of a dark mood to the song... Kind of reminds me of TRON a little bit... Really really 80's sci fi .sounding with the synths added on.

I just listened to the preview on the Australian iTunes. Very different to what I was expecting and somehow it feels right. About one hour to go for the whole song to be available in the UK I guess... Can't wait!

The bit I've heard sounds more like the incidental music thoughout the film. I just really want to hear where he takes it from there!

i haven't listened to the preview clip and only heard the whole thing,
so i have no idea what to answer to that lol but it's beautiful, that's
for sure. probably the best choice as closing track for this release.

Someone said Prince sounded like he's saying in the intro "Sup Branigan" but I think it's actually "Start panicking", like he's having a convo with someone. And at the end you can faintly hear someone say "okay" but I can't tell if it's Prince or not.

I love how he uses the piano as percussion during the bridge.

The synths remind me of the last part of Do Me Baby... So 80's sci fi sounding, I love it...

I wonder if the booklet is the same for all 3 versions... Or will some booklets have less or more?

The 2 discs set booklet is 16 pages, the other one 36.
