It would be interesting to see if Father's Song is still copyrighted as a John L. Nelson composition, or if this version's been copyrighted again as a Prince one nod

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I can't seem to find the answer. Does anybody know if the bonus material on the two extra cd's - specifically the disc with the real unreleased gems - is gonna be released on vinyl as well?

Cheers. Have you got a source for it or are you just assuming because there's no word of it? smile

Anyway, it's a shame, and rather odd from a business standpoint, if they don't put it out on vinyl.

"Father's Song" is not what I imagined all these years, but it is still really great. A real gem.

Just one thing... more "Vangelis" than "Moroder".

I'm not familiar with Vangelis outside of the song "Chariots of Fire". What would you recommend?

As RaspBerryGirlFriend noted, the soundtrack to "Blade Runner" is seminal, highly recommended.

In similar style (and influential to "Father's Song" and something of 1999 in the way we are talking of) I could suggest you to give a listen to "Antarctica" and the soundtrack to "Missing".

If more than that you want to explore Vangelis in all his artistic excursus, I would suggest you also to start with:

- L'Apocalipse Des Animaux

- Opera Sauvage

- 1492: Conquest Of Paradise

- Voices

- Oceanic

and "Themes" or "The Collection" as referential compilation.

Waiting for the jewel case version of this PR remaster thing...

You'll be waiting a long time! Jewel cases have been on the way out for over a decade now - and I can't recall the last time I saw a 4 disc case.

.

I cannot call a cardboard whatever a 'deluxe' thing.

Buy more b00tz to see 4CD boxes.

I think I am one of those few people around who buys cardboard releases and then put the CD's in a jewelcase on the rack next to the empty cardboard case so the the ink and paper used for that won't rot away the discs. lol

Cardboard CD cases are really not bad at all! I have some over 10 years old in perfect condition. YOu just gotta not be reckless with them but otherwise they are perfectly cool

some strange noises:

just listening to the beginning and you can hear a tiny bit of 'bleed through' piano just before he plays the first note. Would this be due to any tape deteriation or would it have been on their from day one?

Also a general fuzzy hiss throughout (which stops abruptly at the end), but I suppose that can be expected form an intimate recording???

i can also hear what sounds like a spanish type of guitar (way back in the mix) that may have been removed (but you can still hear it a bit?)

not sure about the attempt at the brush drums either, sound a bit half arsed (or is it just noise frim Prince moving?. (i like the drums when they come back at the end - more pronounced) or could it be prince kicking the pedals like on How Come u Don't Call me?

interesting, love the track nevertheless.

you can always move your discs to double cd cases if want to protect them better. At least this release is affordable for everyone. i think most are interested in content. People keep showing release that cost £80 were basically you paying loads extra for packaginfg. i would rather pay the £18 for this. As content wise this pr deluxe as maybe the better stuff. Definately better than sgt pepper . U2 joshua tree as similar set up and admittedly nicer packaging to pr deluxe but you are paying loads more. Super fan prices

I think warners got price right and packaging right .

They have definately missed off some stuff content wise for me . But next to these release you put up as top of the tree. You are just making warners look good as this release holds up well against them for a fraction of the price.

The Joshua Tree anniversary set is excellent packaging. But the bonus material is not as exciting as Purple Rain. TJT's "unreleased" bonus material are almost exclusively live tracks/remixes. Very little in the way of unreleased studio sessions, which is my main area of interest.

I just listened to it on Spotify and am a bit disapointed that it's not the version from the movie.

Do you not comprehend English? I have the set. They could include a gold bar with each remaster and it still wouldn't compare to the innovative music of Princes extras disc and the remaster of the original release. It's about the MUSIC, not the packaging that your by complaining about wb and praising u2. Gawd!

I'm listening to "Father's Song" as I'm writing this... It occurred to me to pop onto The Org to see how many people are complaining and griping about the sound quality. So far, it seems that the anal audiophiles haven't chimed in.

.

This song is amazing. It sounds crystal clear, and - for me at least - I've never heard any of it outside of "Purple Rain" the movie.

-

As a fan, I'm over the moon with giddiness that we're getting "new" music from this Golden Ear of Prince's output, three decades after it was recorded. Not only is it a blast to hear these vintage Prince tunes, but they take me back to that supremely innocent time in my life, when I was about to enter college and the entire world was brand new and I had my whole life ahead of me. Sound quality be damned, this stuff is just good for the soul.

Yes indeed. Thank you, BoraBora! 1999 is my favorite album ever, and I'd love to hear anything that inspired its sound.

I'm with Giggity Goo and Romeoblu...

That Father's Song shit was EPIC. It's a bit much to comprehend with the synthesizers overloading my senses. I can't listen to it again for a while but I'm definitely coming back to it, later.

Wow!

P.S. There is light, very light guitar work in the second half and it's cool. This is getting me hyped for the rest of the set. If you bought the "expanded edition" from the OFFICIALPRINCEMUSIC.com website, then they'll send you a sound file of Our Destiny/Roadhouse, Electric Intercourse, Father's Song free.

I love it. I always love hearing the more experimental & expressive side of Prince.

.

Count me as another fan of Vangelis & other film composers that heard those influences in "Father's Song". It's always great to hear Prince experimenting with forms other than pop perfection.

.

I kept wanting it to build to the rising plateau like it does in the Computer Blue interpolation, but what it does do is even better (deferring to Prince's choices there).

.

Fantastic to have this additional documentation of 1999/PR era.
