Why wouldn't they make a release with all 4 films??

Don't you lot ever pay attention, considering you claim to care so much about this? SOTT isn't owned by WB. Oh, and there are TWO Blu-ray releases already, region-free: Japan (also available ina gorgeous box set) and Australia.

Blu-ray is a home format that allows people to watch a movie in the quality it was shown in theaters originally, and sometimes even better than that considering the shitty quality of plenty of movie theaters and the copies of movies that were used. Just compare the various home video versions of The Godfather to see how a great movie was put on DVD in seriously bad condition, only to get a much needed restoration in 2008.

Not true, the film was filmed in color, then released in black and white. Warner has the color master.

Not entirely true.
.
Optimal quality would be optical. 4k is one step closer but we still have a long way to go in compression technnology before the quality of an optical print can be compressed enough to be stored on physical media or streamed. For example a none compressed film could be as large as 600Gb but even the capacity of an ultra blu ray disc is still only 100Gb but at least this allows for 3840x2160 resolution at 60 frames per second, 10-bit color and a data rate of 128 Mbit/s.
.
So we have a long way yet to go!

So, the Syracuse show from the Purple Rain tour - who owns that? It was a TV broadcast right, so does that mean there won't be higher quality versions with who ever 'owns' the broadcast. Also unsure why Lovesexy mightn't have a higher quality version somewhere - with whomever did the orig al broadcast. Comin str8 outta Preston... |

Both of those released concert videos were NOT shot with good equipment, they were shot with SD live video cameras. They weren't even shooting HD video at that time, and they, unfortunately, didn't shoot them on film. |

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but there's no such thing as a color version of Under the Cherry Moon. It's just one of those fan rumors that just won't die. . And contrary to fan-myth, the whole movie wasn't shot on color film. Only a few early scenes were shot on color film at the point where WB were unsure about releasing a Black and White movie. After these initial test scenes, WB agreed to the movie being shot in black and white (using black and white film). So it's impossible for a color version of the movie to exist.

AFAIK, the official story has always been that it was shot in color and released in black & white.
Perhaps the problem is that no known color masters still exist or possibly that the restoration cost would be too great for a title with such limited appeal.
I would love to see it in color and no doubt would drop cash for a copy. That said, the movie works in B&W and this is the way it is meant to be seen. Anything else would merely be a bonus for me. Something to watch once or twice while the B&W version would remain my go-to version.
Just sayin'...

I would burn my b&w copy immediately if a color version came out, its a travesty to watch that movie in black and white imo.
Prince was WRONG to release this in black and white, from a commercial and an asthetic perspective.
