GET OVER IT ---/ I am a huge fan of all genres of music and I am fully aware of what black people can do but Prince never abandoned RnB music like a lot of cross over acts. His RnB/Funk side should be celebrated and this is the only time that is going to happen on a national televised program. None of these people were invited to the Billboard awards they will be invited because they are not relevant to today's young people. You skip it and let the rest enjoy.

Let's not forget the last band Prince had was a rock band. Maybe BET isn't the place for this but someone needs to do it. Paisley Park is in your heart

Do you think they should do a tribute on the country music channel or Telemundo? Respect the genre we just lost one of the best RnB guitar player with almost know one stepping up to take his place this is a huge lost for RnB.

Agreed, but I would also argue, that within the US at least, the major award shows would overlook his R&B side in any type of tribute. So I think its fair if BET took it upon itself to focus more on that, because wherever else he'll be paid tribute to, it won't focus on that aspect of his catalogue. In general people here will only perform the pop/rock/new-wave aspect of his sound. Change it one more time..

Prince would want a tribute made upt of real musicians playing real instruments and real singing. That is what I believe Steven Hill is doing with this tribute since he claims to be a fan. I expect the revolution, npg and maybe even 3rd eye girl will by part of the others.
Beautiful, Loved and Blessed
Thank You Prince | |

The Billboard tribute certainly didn't. I'll just be happy if BET includes some musicians and not just singers. Paisley Park is in your heart

Thats a good point. Hopefully Sheila's, or D'Angelo's portions focus on musicianship. Change it one more time..

Black people LOVED Prince. ALL Prince; funk Prince, Rock Prince, R&B Prince, Hip Hop Prince, Jazz Prince, Spiritual Prince.
Look, BET played Black artists that played Rock music too. AND not to mention, pretty much everybody Black like "Rock Prince".

I am so sick and tired of these "rock" fans or non Black fans or whoever you are, trying to downplay how BET is going to do this tribute!!!! BET loved Prince and Prince loved BET!
Black fans LOVED all types of Prince, including "rock Prince" and Prince was not more rock, he was more Funk and fusion funk/rock than anything, and of couse, R&B.
Isn't that what Prince NOT wanted? To be labeled? He also didn't want to boxed in. He could play it all.

Really?? Then how come at Prince BET Tribute in 2010, he HANDPICKED female singers to pay tribute to him? And this is when he was living?
Some of ya'll do not know Prince as much as you think you do. Especially when it comes to his relationship to his Black fans, Black media and Black entertainment outlets. This fact is becoming more and more apparant on this board.

It doesn't matter who does it or what they do. Prince won't be there - ergo, it will suck on some level. Not watching. We donβt mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Hmm....I don't think I'm the one labeling black people and their tastes. I'm one who thinks a BET tribute can be more than just R&B. Paisley Park is in your heart
