Would have loved to seen the Time but they should be able to do something here, I have a feeling a Love Bizarre may be performed. I hope they don't waste time by putting down other performances (example Madonna) I think we already beat that topic enough and to tarnish a new tribute by blasting an older one is lame. Maybe someone will ask Questlove about his bootleg "starfish" shirt I know Susannah has a bone to pick with that.

They all payed tribute to Prince already on youtube. Young people won't feel the need to get an interest in prince with seeing D or Janelle Monae. Frankly...Prince needed the biggest black acts of nowadays.

The youth will be watching the show regardless. They will be watching to see the other performances and to see if their faves win. C'mon now.

Plus Janelle's fans in particular are usually young.

Youngins don't watch awards shows. Only old people like us do. Youngins are too busy snapchatting their tindr and grindr periscopes and vines on instagram and facebook. That's okay, we'll all connect on compuserve, aol instant messenger, yahoo messenger, irc and icq. For those of us with older computers, we'll meet up on hammer's chat, eye's chat and thedawn chat.

In the wake of crashing and burning so severely that she's trolling BET, Madonna (hopefully) won't be touching a Prince song for the next 20 years.

She'll be 77. So it would be appropriate if she covered "7" in tribute to Prince on the BET/Billboard "Music" Awards. She can sing it with Prince's hologram, which will give her shade every 7.7 seconds.

Or she can cover "Nothing Compares 2 U" again. "It's been 13 hours and 7347 days, since you took your love away..."

That won't stop the BET/Billboard/People's Choice "remember when there was music" Awards from trolling us with holograms. I pray that I am dead by then. I'd be okay with being dead by 6/26. It is going to be god awful.

I'm certainly not super eager based on what we know so far, but hopefully it will be enjoyable.

I really hope people aren't trying to sing un-coverable Prince songs - unless its by like a Tamia or Celine Dion or Stephanie Mills or someone who can sing impeccably even in the middle of a deep sleep.

I hope the acts stick with their biggest hits that were penned or produced by Prince, ie The Time (The Bird, Jungle Love), Sheila E (The Glamorous Life, A Love Bizarre). Find Sheena Easton. Find The Revolution (1999, Kiss), simpler songs that someone won't try to put their own spin on.

I don't know what the Roots and D'angelo might sing, but please let it be something sing-along like to get the crowd going and not something so Prince that all fans are going to be thinking about is "oh no he didn't!"

What I really hope they do is somehow, someway, get a pristine remastered version of Just My Imagination - Small Club and play it during a pictorial tribute. Talk about therapeutic. It would be hard to find a dry eye by the time Prince gets halfway through that guitar solo.

Wooo youngin here. I may not be 16 but Im under 30. I think I know what my peers and teens will be watching. the teens especially will be watching. they may not tune in the night of but many in the 13-30 age group will watch at some point, especially black folk.

I watch the award shows, mostly out of habit but also curiosity. I wouldve watched the BEt awards anyway, but now i have a real reason to tune in.

Uh like who? mad If you're talking about the Revolution, it still might be possible that they will be a

part of the tribute? Maybe Stephen Hill is keeping it under wraps.

I think this will be a fine tribute based on the lineup, but the comments here show you just can't please everybody.

My hope is that they give a decent amount of time for the tribute, rather than doing a rushed medley.

Where's all the people who actually played with Prince ? This list is super predictable. Jesse? Morris? Andre? The revolution ? NPG?

I'm assuming BET never even thought to ask. BET tribute will be better than Billboard Awards, no doubt. But, there's still a level of predictableness to it. All of the chosen tribute people are great, don't get me wrong, and the whole thing may even be good.

But, I would have really liked to have seen members of his various bands as well as associated acts do the tribute. I guess Sheila E. is a symbolic stand-in for all of them.

I get it. It was never going to be geared toward the hardest of the hardcore fans and it has to have some level of mainstream-ness. So, it is what it is.

Can't stand Questlove's attention seeking ways (especially when he wrote disrespectful things about Prince when he was alive and his family after Prince passed away on social media), at least he will be getting attention as a musician and can HAM it up as many times as he can when the camera is on him. The lineup for the BET Awards tribute to Prince is of high caliber and well thought out. It's great seeing Sheila E and Janelle listed as performers because they truly had a long standing relationship free of oneupmanship and genuine love for Prince.

Shut your negative ass up. I get so sick of the negative shit that comes out of you people's mouth

Just shut up with the negativity and attacking people that loved Prince and he loved and played with just because you don't like them

I'm hoping that The Revolution will reunite for this. Perhaps they could play could play along with a vocal track of PRN singing Purple Rain. NO hologram but perhaps a video playing on a big screen as they play along. I'm just hoping BET gets this right.

I was just checking out Nik West's FB page and she has some nice anectodes about Prince, as well as a funky version of "Head" with a story of why Prince asked her to change the lyrics up. It would be nice to see her be a part of this tribute as well.

I'll watch, just out of curiosity. Maybe there will be surprises.

For BET's Michael Jackson's tribute, they had a few artists who sang Michael's songs, and they sounded horrible. I hope that doesn't happen here. BET didn't do the best job with Michael, though I understand it was last minute.

I am glad they're doing something to honor Prince. Looking forward to seeing Sheila and D'Angelo.

.
Yes Lenny Kravitz would be good, even just to play guitar. Miguel can bring the old dirty mind era, or Frank Ocean on a ballad or mid tempo joint. Finally Andre 3000 can do some paisley psychedelic stuff (and dress the part).
.
As a tribute, this may not happen, but would like to see Nasty Girl done, maybe with Beyoncé (she did have that Naughty Girl/Nasty Girl remix), maybe Tinashe, maybe Nikki Minaj. All bankable BET stars to keep the young folk from fast forwarding or taking a snack break (like me during the country performances at award shows). No one can deny that sex was a part of his legacy, why deny it for his tribute?
.
What songs? Has to be relevant to the audience. On a BET interview with Prince they called Adore the black national anthem, or something like that. Who would have the balls to cover that? D'Angelo would be my bet. What else? I Wanna Be Your Lover feels right. Take Me With U. U Got the Look. Most Beautiful Girl in the World. 1999.

Wow, this sucks a lot. The only interest in a tribute is to increase sales. These artists are not as bankable as Beyonce, Alicia Keys, JAY Z...These ones could have make young people interested in Prince. Nobody wants to listen to Janelle Monae or D ANGELO singing Prince's songs.

Do you think about anything other than ratings, rankings, sales and popularity? Like ever?? If there's a time to put your concerns about popularity and sales to the side, I think the moment of someone's death might be a suitable moment for that. wink

Yes, I think about the legacy of Prince. And if nobody listens to or buys Prince albums, this is a failure...You are all masturbating about "what if EMANCIPATION had 12 tracks" or "what is your favourite album", as if anybody cared, but that won't get new fans...

What's the point in a tribute if it can't bring new fans ?

For people who argue that the tribute should include more "bankable" artists, how does that fit with the fact that Prince was scornful of Top 40 radio, as well as most hit music?

I think he would have preferred musicians he respected to the most "popular" ones.

He would have preferred his albums to be sold by a more bankable tribute. that's why for the last 25 years he made mostly rnb for young listeners...
