I saw a Prince tribute a few yrs ago maybe 2010-2011 I think. I recall Patti Labelle and Alicia Keys each covering Prince's music. Alicia covered Adore which I found to be horrendous.

Not sure what other artist will be performing. I think the original Time, The Revolution should definitely perform. Can't really go wrong with Sheila E and The Roots. Not sure what D'Angelo is gonna do but he always does a great job of covering other artist works from EW&F, Al Green, Bobby Womack,Ohio Players,Eddie Kendricks,,Smokey Robinson, Roberta Flack,Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye. Bill Whethers etc . I hope he does a up-tempo song and a ballad. If he does Adore I think it would be absolutely chilling.

What a joke. Alicia's cover of Adore brought the house down. I enjoyed her and E Spauldings rendention of If I Was UR Girlfriend. I didn't like Patti's version of Purple Rain mostly because I think she mailed it in. Didn't really know the song and just screamed through the end of it.

But Keys was fantastic Imo

Treysongz did Purple Rain earlier in the night and jacked it up
Someone did Let's Go Crazy, the music was good but the performance not
Esperenza did a good job on If I Was Your Girlfriend
Alicia did a good job on Adore, just being as pregnant as she was and climbing on the piano was scary

Patti 'Royally' jacked up Purple Rain, not suited to her singing style screamed rolled around maybe? left a shoe on the stage...

She must have a spare in her handbag - or someone in her entourage is the same size or else she's hobbling around the afterparty lol

The best way to salute and honor Prince is to gather a group of talented funk masterminds and true musicians and do some of his funkiest tunes. Crying over the falsettos during the end of Purple Rain just became clichΓ©, they should celebrate him.

In my opinion, they don't need vocal beasts like Alicia, Mary J Blige, Jill, Mariah...etc nor the neo soul elite (The Roots, D Angelo, Maxwell...). They should bring St. Vincent, Miguel, George Clinton, Mark Ronson, Janelle Monae, 3rd Eye Girl, OutKast, Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, guys who can conduct an all-funk jam party with songs like Kiss, Mountains, Housequake, I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man, D.M.S.R...

If Bruno Mars is fit to be there then so is Justin Timberlake.

I'd have no problem with that. Anybody with ears can here Prince's influence on each of them

RODSERLING

Nobody wants to listen to PURPLE RAIN again...

THe only way to pay a tribute to Prince is to sing the HNR2' songs.

STARE by Bruno Mars

BLACK MUSE by Beyonce and and Alicia keys

BALTIMORE (because this is an afro-reunion)

BIG CITY

All backed up by Sheila E on drums and Larry Graham on bass.

HELL NO. Beyonce is trash. Just an overrated sell out, pop puppet. Her voice is average and she has no writing talent whatsoever.

Bruno is the most insincere, corniest mofo to come out in years.

The last BET Prince tribute was horrific. It was truly embrassing to watch. Atrocious, dismal, terrible, shit, shite, abysmal, horrendous, garbage, trash, a complete joke. And that is being kind to that abomination.

Im sure the tribute will be respectable. Just dont set expectations too high. At the end of the day, they are there for the Love of Prince. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Memo to the Org:

Tonight, There will be a Prince tribute during the BET Music Awards.

Please note that Wendy and Lisa won't be performing Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden backed by the reunited Revolution plus Dez Dickerson on guitar.

Also please note Jill Jones won't be singing G Spot followed by I Lust U Always while Andre Cymone plucks his bass, only to ditch it for a 7 minute version of The Dance Electric.

Enjoy yourself.

So are they going to have anyone that can actually play guitar at this tribute? Or are we just going to get R&B Prince?

WOw yeah I disagree on the Beyonce as well but I would like to see Alicia Keys involce and Sheila E of course. Still think Maxwell would be a great addition for any falsetto classics due to his range as well ( and that he worked with Prince on 'IF') I will have to get that channel so I can watch it though... hmmm

You know what? At this point, I'm over it....no one can do a proper tribute for Prince, not even BET...so I won't be setting my expectations high at all...I might not even watch the damn thing.

I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

I had a name for it, but that disaster term was used in the 70s. Oh well lol
