BET better do Prince right! I hated the tribute they did for Luther Vandross. John Legend's voice was so awful and wrong for Luther's tribute. Never liked anything he's done since then. [Edited 6/8/16 21:39pm]

The Revolution and the original line up of the NPG should perform seperately with Justin Timberlake as the lead singer and the other band getting the lead singer from the Weeknd.
This would be a professional triibute. Grammy time anyone?
Oh god no. please leave the weeknd out of it. his live vocals are either horrendous or very inconsistent. Miguel please. Or friggin judith hill or one of the other vocalists that its known that he loved.
I'd be okay with a Miguel switch out. I just wanted more current pop chart toppers. Melding the new with the old. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment |

Instead of trying to perform his stuff, maybe they should actually play his stuff and let them talk about the time they spent with Prince and share some of their memories. I think Sheila has been with him the longest since she has performed with him throughout the years. I just don't think anyone can perform his stuff and I be satisfied. Although I know they won't be as bad as Madonna #LoveU4EverMyPrinceđź’śđź’śđź’ś
Why does everyone have to try to "be Prince"?!? Can't be done. Play a video of Prince being Prince. Let people tell their stories about Prince for a tribute.
RIP Prince. We will NEVER forget you. Thank you so much.

Do you think about anything other than ratings, rankings, sales and popularity? Like ever?? If there's a time to put your concerns about popularity and sales to the side, I think the moment of someone's death might be a suitable moment for that.
Yes, I think about the legacy of Prince. And if nobody listens to or buys Prince albums, this is a failure...You are all masturbating about "what if EMANCIPATION had 12 tracks" or "what is your favourite album", as if anybody cared, but that won't get new fans...
What's the point in a tribute if it can't bring new fans ?
But why do you care so much? The money's not going into YOUR pocket. Do you go to a museum only to ask how much is the value of the artwork or do you go to the museum to enjoy the ART? Do you go on vacation counting all your pennies worried about quantities of this and that, rankings of different places and comparing and qualifying every aspect of life, or do you on vacation to fucking enjoy life? Change it one more time.. |

Ya know........from where I'm sitting, how about MORE of the Protege' Acts (RELEVANT OR NOT)???
-The Revolution (w/Dez Dickerson)
-Andre Cymone
-Sheila E.
-Morris Day & The Time OR The Original 7ven (if 4 NOTHING ELSE, do it 4 Prince OG7ven)
-Apollonia 6 reunion (and "Nasty Girl" as a Tribute 2 Vanity)
-FDeluxe (aka The Family)
-Mazarati (keep hearing They've re-formed)
-New Power Generation (without or with Tony M.)
-Jill Jones
-Tevin Campbell
-Mavis Staples
-Sheena Easton
THIS would be MORE of a PROPER tribute 2 the "Minneapolis Sound"!!! And of course have D'Angelo!!

Imagine how much of a showstopper it would be for them to surprise us with Destiny's Child singing Nasty Girl?
OR Beyonce doing Darling Nikki, with Nikki Minaj spitting a couple of verses during the song. I do believe that would bring the house down - if they really take it seriously (and don't just throw it together.)
OR Beyonce singing some mashup of Nasty Girl and Naughty Girl. Could be pretty nice if well thought out.
I'm picturing this in my mind and I just got sick to my stomach!

The "new" can't sing, nor lipsync, nor play an instrument, nor write, nor move, nor any combination together. So, its a problem. |

I don't judge an artist by his sales...What you're saying is ridiculous. I just stated that these artists are far less embraced by the young generation than Beyonce and co. And the point here is to get Prince new fans. I see no interest in seeing other artist doing cover of prince. Hell, even Springsteen's cover of Purple rain was boring ! This tribute could save a whole generation that are listening pure shit, but doesn't know it yet. Until they saw Beyonce performing Nasty girl half naked, they won't get interested in Prince. Have u checked the definition of tribute? Has nothing to do with increasing a fan base. The point of a tribute isn't that. The point of a tribute is to show respect, gratitude, and admiration. |

You're the one that must be joking...
Beyonce sells in a day what Monae sells in an entire year...Timberlake, Jay Z, these "artists" are way more popular than D or Monae, and are better driver for increasing fans and sales for Prince.
That doesn't mean they are better suited to give tribute to Prince. This post is absolutely ridiculous.
If we are going to base sells as a driving force behind who tributes Prince than I guess Adele, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry should give a Prince tribute since they all out sell Beyonce. Janelle Monae is a GREAT artist and performer. Prince was a big inspiration for her and her music. She was also his friend. She MORE than anyone else deserves to be on that stage tributing Prince. Prince deserves a REAL tribute, fuq what little kids think about their popular star being on stage. If they introduce different acts to the new generation, they will get more exposure to different artists. Jay Z and Beyonce dont even give a damn about Prince I dont even know why yall would want them to tribute him. |

THIS.
The point of a tribute is to show respect and honor, not to have a spetacle where the focus of the person being tributed is lost. Thats how I felt about that Stevie Wonder tribute last year at the Grammys. For some of the stars it felt like they were showboating themselves more so giving honor to a legend. |

The Revolution and the original line up of the NPG should perform seperately with Justin Timberlake as the lead singer and the other band getting the lead singer from the Weeknd.
This would be a professional triibute. Grammy time anyone?
-
You are kidding right? I don't even want to see Timberlake in the same area code let alone on anybody's stage badly doing Prince.
-
But the Revolution? Yes please. Yes please. YES PLEASE!!! Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend. |

Me too. Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend. |

I always got the impression that Prince tolerated Questlove and treated him like like a kid that wanted to participate in grown folks conversation but was given a coloring book to occupy him while grown folks had a good time. Not very close, because Questlove wrote a Instagram post on the night that Dangelo played First Avenue complaining Prince didn't come to the show to see "2 of his best students" and that only Him and Dangelo cared about his legacy not knowing that Prince was hosting a release party at Paisley Park Studios for Hit And Run Phase 1 for fans and media. Questlove came across as entitled and pouted like Prince was his father that didn't come to his recital. Prince made his mark as a musician long before Dangelo and Questlove got in the music business and while Prince was trying new ideas and collaborating with different musicians and associates, those two still obsess over one period of Prince's life that he himself clearly moved on from.

I hope there are no holograms. I find them creepy. It's like the deceased doing a tribute to another deceased.

Best idea so far.
-
I would still like to see those who actually have real history with Prince, like the Revolution (they are still alive and playing), Sheila. Hell I would go nuts if Appolonia, Susan and Brenda just walked out and said a couple of words (while the Time play background. Just kidding).

Overall, Imma let BET finish. Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend. |

Personally none of these tributes do anything for me. Prince is gone and for me he is untouchable, I'd like to see a proper tribute from the Time and the Family and Sheila is ok but all these buddy performance i can't get into it. The only thing I'm looking forward to is what is in the vault and what becomes of Paisley Park. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet? |

Wow, this sucks a lot. The only interest in a tribute is to increase sales. These artists are not as bankable as Beyonce, Alicia Keys, JAY Z...These ones could have make young people interested in Prince. Nobody wants to listen to Janelle Monae or D ANGELO singing Prince's songs.
Jay-Z doing a tribute to Prince? Beyonce? LAUGHABLE!!!!
Yea, I don't get that mention at all I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it |

How about Alissia Benveniste?
[Edited 6/9/16 0:03am]
Some chick practiced an instrument. That's nice. But who cares. ? How is that a standout feat worthy of circulating. ?
Well, she wrote and produced the song from the first video. And she did her own arranging of the Cool bassline which is more than just copying. [Edited 6/11/16 14:54pm] |

I wouldn't mind seeing Beck, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys doing "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore. Erykah Badu. Dig up Terrence Trent D'arby. Cart out anyone remotely connected with Prince to be presenters and give short testimonials (Andre, Jill, Morris etc.) The Time and The Revolution should definitely perform. mash it up with the hottest new thing (Mars). Hell I'd even let Justin Timberlake try and steal the stage. |
