Was there no alternative to taking opioids? Like a surgery that would once and for all end his pains? 😒😒😒

Suregery can be very successful but there is no guarantee. He could have had the surgery back in 2010/11 and still been in pain.

What was the medical term for his ailment? I wanna read and learn all about it on the Internet.

This is really nothing new, is it? I think we knew as much, it is only a matter of how, why, what etc etc. Still making him out to be a junkie, and I am certain he wasn't. Hopefully they will be forthcoming with some more information to clear his name. This is just heartbreaking. sad

Another day to mourn. Well, we wanted to know. That speculation can end.

I wish I could go a day without crying for him.

My only question that I guess we'll never get answers to is if he was withdrawing why leave him alone and with more damn pills...shit is not right.

also, him being a jehovah's witness, surgery may not have been an option for him.

Oh, please, stop dissing his personal life choices if you have any respect for the man. Witnesses get surgery every day and if he needed and wanted hip surgery, he could have gotten it no problem.

I don't think is "news" to us, but to the public at large.

We knew this was the case because of the opiate specialist (or his son, rather) from the rehab center being one of the three that found him. You have to be in a very bad state to warrant that sort of assistance. That and the situation with the plane.

Like others have said.......... it still doesn't really tell us anything and we still need to wait for the full autopsy results to understand what kind of chronic pain he was in or other underlying issues.

I wish he would have gotten help sooner and slowed down. He shouldn't have been performing, he shouldn't have been flying anywhere..........Prince just didn't know how to stop :'(

I feel like he just died all over again.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

i figured it would be an od. he had been trying to ween himself off and starts a terrifing, dangerous cycle of, withdraw (severe flu symptoms) then taking a little to manage symptoms and pain, then oding because your body had be off for awhile ......on and on, round and round. your system is already compromised and stressed. the constant ping-ponging etc keeps your body from metobolizing things well,or at all.

i've known so many people that struggle this way for along time until it kills them or they complete rehab.

.my heart is broken all over again. goodnight sweet Prince. sad sad

Very very true, especially in that area. I had a distant friend who had a back/hip issue very painful and the surgery really did not do much in terms of the pain, sometimes surgery brings out other pain. In my friends case the pain lead to bouts with depression, very severe and further hospilization and then tragically suicide.

I was never in any doubt it was a simple overdose, so to some degree, there is no new news. It still doesn't shed any light on an underline problem and to be honest, I'm not one of those fans scambling or demanding answers. It won't bring him back.

Exactly. But it's also upsetting again, knowing he was left alone after ODing a few days earlier.

This is not news. We all knew that he technically died of an overdose. I hate that the media will get another week to rehash the fact that he was on opioids, had an overdose after the Atlanta concert, etc., etc. Whether or not there were other underlying issue that made him more susceptible to an overdose or whether he was taking other drugs that made the impact of the opioids more lethal is probably more relevant. It doesn't matter anyway. A great man is gone. The media needs to stop rehashing this.

Move on........ there is no need for all this mess. Let's not derail the topic and it would be nice if folks could be civil and respectful.

We are not going to know HOW much pain he was in, doctors can only ASSUME, only PRINCE knew the amount of pain he was in. And with pain killers etc...the more you take them over time, the PAIN just gets used to it and stops working so the person takes more, which has happened many times before.

This is best case scenario folks, it really is. Unless you wanted a result where this death was unavoidable (like cancer), which I can understand too.

But no street drugs, and given the source that gave us this news on day one gave us a narrative with it (hip pain, painkillers from around 2010), this is tragic for our beloved Prince but not even a tiny dent on his reputation. If anything, people will wonder how he functioned so well and so often throughout all of this downturn in his fortunes. And the only answer they'll come up with is - because he was Prince.

This is premature. The official report is released tomorrow.

There may be more to the story. Underlying cause, etc.

No matter what the reason, its sad and definitely hard to accept. May he finally rest in peace.
