Charming reply. The issue isn't with having some giggles, who doesn't like to laugh, even at themselves? I do all the time. The issue is you are a phoney who obviously enjoys attacking others you feel don't belong here under the guise of just having a little fun, just trying to lighten up around here. That's all fine and dandy. I can take a lot of shit. But I still find it disheartening that in one's grief they reach out to a place like this only to find the threads about how you have to endure bandwagon fans, late comers and the like. We get it. It just comes across a bit rude and unwelcoming to the loathsome newbies who just want to find a safe place to share. I do hope it made you feel better tho to tell me off good and proper. I should have known better so my bad. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Who the hell are you?! I've been on the Org for 17 years and have contributed to many discussions. I've met many wonderful people here and have had countless great conversations. Calling ME a phony is goddamn laughable. I think the real problem is you don't know what you're talking about or who you're talking to. Lighten the fuck up and move. You've already shit on this thread enough. Let us have our fun. Your high horse can grade elsewhere. If you don't have a sense of humor and don't get the joke, this isn't the place for you anyway. I looked at your profile. You only have 54 threads. Look, sorry if you identify yourself as a newbie and that makes you feel bad, but JUST MOVE ON. This thread was clearly not meant for you. What made you feel so entitled that you would just come on here and spout off. We don't need a wet blanket. If some of us longtime Prince fans who get lost in the arcane facts want to giggle at less knowledgable fans (and let's not beat around the bush there) then that's really no business of yours. That is a very good post. All I was trying to do was start a little place where longtime fans could have a collective laugh about some of the things we're hearing from the outside world about the man who has meant so much to us for so long. hollywooddove said: sonshine said: Charming reply. I think one of the most god awful things is news reporters talking about prince. In moments like this you have to prepare yourself for the fact that some will know next to nothing about prince but yet are oblidged to talk about him because its a news report. But then when you mix the ego of some of these presenters , they beging to think and talk as if they know what they are talking about. Then it just gets embarassing and shameful.

None of the disdain in this thread is directed at newbies (at least it shouldn't be). I love newbies because the majority (if not all) of them are straight-forward and honest from the start by saying they are new to Prince music and want to know more about him. It's the disloyal; some-timey. fake 'fans' that irk me. His last hit was NOT Purple Rain. He had hits with 'The Batman Soundtrack', 'Kiss', 'D&P', 'Cream', 'TMBGITW', 'Musicology' (which was one of the biggest tours and albums of 2004)...I can keep going because all of these singles alone were critically praised, had steady radio play, and did impact the charts during their releases. It's not just with Prince that people like this irritate me. I felt the same way about MJ, Whitney, and Aaliyah when they had all passed away. If you only followed them for one or two albums when they have 4 or more in their catalog than are you really a fan? NO! You're not! If you can't stick with an artist during the 'flops' or less popular albums, then you ain't loyal and this thread is about you. I can't tell you how it makes my skin crawl when people just praise 'Purple Rain' or the popular singles that came immediately before or after PR such as 'LRC', 'When Doves Cry', '1999', or 'Kiss'. These 'fans' don't even know that Prince pioneered the formation of the digital music system that has become so common place today. They don't know this because he was doing this during his 'weird phase'...that phase when he went by this as his name: . That was probably when these fair-weather fans started to wipe their hands clean of anything Prince instead of sticking by him and just enjoying the music. Real fans don't just turn their backs on an artist that they truly care about. They did the same to MJ. They did the same to Whitney. If you just like the popular music, than you're not a fan, you're a trend follower. Prince never stopped making music at any point so there was no reason to stop listening to him other than he just wasn't popular to like anymore; or, you just stopped liking what he was doing. I can understand that latter reason because it happens; but, don't just think that you can stroll back in years later after his passing and try to say you're a hardcore fan...you're not; you're just not. If you truly love an artist and are indeed a hardcore fan, than you take the bad with the good because you know that even in the bad there is going to be at least one or two songs that make the album worth your time. To listen to his music when he was making each album was to experience his growth as a musician and be a part of his life's journey. So, in closing, to the new Prince fans, I welcome you. To the fair-weather fans who didn't support Prince during his non-popular, shunned years, you can turn back around and go back out the door you just walked through. No tears saying that because I don't like fake people and that's what these people are...fake; sorry, not sorry. All just my Prince Rogers Nelson

Yesterday I said that to a girlfriend of mine. I then found the (newly) online video of "Do Me Baby" from 1982 (capitol theater, iirc). Played the video, Prince says something ilke "Are you ready for me to get undressed?" and proceeds to take off his shirt and unbutton his pants while "Do Me Baby" is playing.
She stood motionless with her mouth literally hanging open. Her only words were "Oh. My. God."
It turned into a good night.

A couple of "observations" from a co-worker who knows in a fan and went to see him in concert more than a few times: - sad news about Prince. I didn't know that song Nothing Compares was his. I thought it was Sinead's song. - I know you went to see him a couple years ago but he didn't do much for a while did he? Me: Er, yeah he's kind of always played live and released music π£

My personally favorite was my dad who said to me the other day "I never knew Prince could play guitar" It's funny, I wouldn't call myself a hardcore fan. Sure I have my love symbol tattoo and nearly sent myself broke going to some concerts. But I am also missing a lot of albums like Gold Experience and Emancipation cause I've been building my collection slowly (and now that's gonna hurt to get those) I don't have bootlegs (no idea where to even start looking, dam you org rules :-p) and being only 30 I was way too young to experience Prince in the 80's and 90's. Lol if anything I envy the fans that have everything and got to see the good old days. Why oh why was I not born 10 years earlier!

Thanks guys! I just had a look at the video and remember it from that thread about Prince clones from a while back. Ignoring the very blatant plagiarism, it's actually quite a cool song!

His SuperBowl and Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame performances are definitely not the BEST he's ever done. Prince has had way better performances in front of far more intimate crowds.

To be fair, it's not been just the "non-music people" like Kevin Smith that have gotten things wrong. John Blackwell wasn't able to remember the title of "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" correctly and Lenny Kravitz said that "Prince" was his first record (he "corrected" the interviewer that said "Controversy" was Prince's first record). You'd think those two would get things right at least.

John Blackwell probably played on more sessions than he can remember. I don't blame him for getting a title wrong. [Edited 5/2/16 5:07am]

Donnie is the only DJ I know that was into P. He played P's music on air far more than any other. My Friday morning drives to work sitting in traffic - Purple medley, 3121 no commercials and back in the day " TRICKY"!. Miss those days. "I don't make the rules. I just play"

If you read the "lost" Rolling Stone article, Prince gave the writer a tour of Paisley Park and showed him a blank spot on one of his mural walls. Prince told him (paraphrasing): "either Purple Rain or the Superbowl is going there, not sure yet..." So apparently Prince thought it was one of his own highlights.
