A couple of years ago my dad was in a pub quiz with a few of his work mates and the question "who wrote the hit album Purple Rain?" came up. He said to his mates "This is easy, my son has been a fan of his for longer than I can remember"..... "It was Sting".

Just hilarious when people post Hall of Fame or the Muppets show to my timeline and say...did you see THIS? Yes, I saw it years ago, you missed out, too bad for you.

Thanks KS for this thread and trying to keep things light around here...yes it has been so hard and not getting easier....ugh. So thrilled to have each other on the org.

In regards to the misquotes and the barrage of wrong facts it's amusing for me in the end. At least they all have come around and are all stating how much of a genius he was. I almost took the time to correct all the mistakes made by Kevin Smiths YT tribute but there were so many it would have taken a long time!

Let's all just be grateful he is being remembered for the most important thing...making amazing music and touching souls around the world...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

You're right; it's not getting better. Today I asked a friend how she knew how much I loved Prince because I didn't really talk about him that much. She told me "whenever you did talk about him, your eyes lit up." Just typing this now makes me have to fight back tears. A battle I just lost. I miss him so much.

Someone I considered a potential friend (at least until today) who doesn't know I am a Prince fan (yet) actually said to me, as the conversation went towards the topic of Prince's death, and before I could even say anyting "Oh I never like him anyway!" and laughed. Well I guess that's about how far our friendship will go then. Some people. confused

I am a "non hardcore fan". However, I was not blind to what a musical genius Prince was. I have always respected and admired his talent. I agree 100% with every superlative that's been used to describe him. Does that mean I liked all of his music? No. It wasn't always my cup of tea. I loved his spirituality. His mystique. His charm. His showmanship. His avoidance of all things "celebrity" and maintaining his roots to Minnesota. I love that he was shy and got nervous like regular people. I loved his humanitarian efforts. I love that he gave more than he took. I wasn't not a hardcore fan, I was just a friend he never knew. please excuse me if I say or ask something you find funny.

- "Wow dawg respect to Prince bruh, he got more pussy than any man alive"

- "OMG Prince's son died sad "

- "When Doves Cry is one of the best songs of all time"

And a lot more. But it makes me happy that so many people are taking an interest in Prince now.. it seems everyone has a good memory or word about him. People are realizing he was gone too soon. The other day, I was with some 18-19 year olds and they spoke about how Prince's death was sad and how his music was good and how he had a shitload of celeb/musician fans. Everyone agreed then and I couldn't help but think that had I said this a week earlier, the whole "ehh Prince? the old guy? He's been irrelevant since the '80s" shit would pop up. Oh well

Someone on my Facebook: "I'm so sad about Prince. I've always been a fan, not just of Purple Rain, I even have the rare stuff like Sign O The Times."

A real conversation I had with a colleague:

Them: "Prince? Isn't he some dude from the 50's?"

Me: "No, he's from the 80s. You must have heard of him. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World? Purple Rain? The Artist Formerly Known As Prince?"

Them: "Is he like Elvis?"

Me: "Hmmmm.... yeah, a lot of people get them confused actually."

My favorite is the amount of people that I have met before all of a sudden on social media with things like "R.I.P. my Prince." BITCH you don't know any other song besides Purple Rain and the last thing you need to be doing is calling him YOUR Prince. It's like its now a popular thing to like Prince because he is elsewhere (I can't say dead, or gone... yet) now so it's a trend or something, makes me so mad. mad

THIS. A coworker wandered over to my cube the other day to inform me that Prince's bass player was some guy from Sly and the Family Stone.

A little different from these examples, but I just saw the Pitchfork review of the new Egyptian Lover compilation refer to D.M.S.R as standing for Dirty Music Sex Romance. Like, okay whatever ultimately I don't care that much, but if you make such a basic error about a dancefloor classics like D.M.S.R then what does that say about your qualifications for reviewing classic early 80s electro?

Edit: Actually tbf the article happened to come up in my Twitter feed and looking at the writer's profile seems like they're actually a pretty large fan who lives in Minneapolis so on second thoughts it's probably just a small typo/mistake, I guess I was being excessively bitchy there lol

Why do you think it's hard to dance to? Is it because it switches grooves periodically? Stop counting and just groove to it... biggrin

Since Prince's death, I've seen a lot of non-hardcore fans -- sometimes people who say they're really really into Prince -- post some funny things on social media. I've seen lots of reposting of that Creep cover with people saying it's the best ever. Same thing for the Super Bowl and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame performances. It's one thing to say hey, this is really good!" but time and again I'm seeing people say these are the BEST performances Prince ever did. Hilarious. Yes, this is me being a smug, hardcore Prince fan laughing at people who haven't spent nearly two decades arguing with strangers about ridiculously arcane Prince facts. Yes. I don't deny that. Maybe they should be laughing at me. Oh well. It's all in good spirit. Today it peak laughable when I saw someone post this piece claiming that some video of Prince doing Motherless Child is his single best performance ever. This is ridiculous! Motherless Child?!? This person has clearly not seen many Prince performances. http://www.trunkworthy.co...never-saw/

Hey, just welcome all purple fans.....

I don't know about yall,

but I am reading all stuff online about the doctor, who made the call 911, and it's really pissing me off now, a day late and a dollar short.

This all seems far too unreal, you wouldn't wish it on anyone.

It's like it was all so damn avoidable, IF it turns out to be true.

How incredibly sad; just pisses me off.
