(big dumb doofus coworker comes bumbling into my office) 'JA HEAR? THEY'RE TURNING PAISLEY PARK INTO A MUSEUM (me, evilest side eye ever) yes, I heard, about that and anything else you're about to tell me.
THIS. A coworker wandered over to my cube the other day to inform me that Prince's bass player was some guy from Sly and the Family Stone.

Mediatakeout had a picture of Larry Graham , and the caption said, "former Prince bass player, and Drake's father, Larry Graham"...

I actually find it a bit saddening that some music critics are only now praising him for his more "rock" performances. You know, the Superbowl performance, Creep, While My Guitar... It's almost like they're giving him a pass to some white rock club that he was previously barred from. And yes, the general public would have a more rounded view of his overall output, had he allowed YouTube uploads. So, it's partly his own fault. I actually prefer Prince with a microphone, synth and the Linn drum machine, than the six minute guitar solo histrionics. That's my Prince.

Never thought about this. hmmmm

that was the other guy Kevin corrected him. But Kevin said his first song AFTER changing his name back to Prince from prince was My Name is Prince....(and got some songs from D&P mixed up with some on prince.

So, you're faulting someone who spoke passionately & to the point of tears about Prince for over an hour for not being as obsessive a fan as you? Classy.

Could it be, that as a Hollywood director, writer, producer, etc., who has actually met & worked with Prince, that he has other varied interests & that Prince & his music meant a great deal more to him at a specific point in his life, but for some of us tastes evolve?

Uh & you think that's funny somehow? He made a couple of simple mistakes because he's not ridiculously obsessive. I'm sure if put to the test, there would be things about Prince that you wouldn't know either & yet no one is interested in an hour long webcast about your feelings on his passing.

People who insist that Prince didn't write a song I know he did. for example.

years ago

-I like that Bangles song, Manic Monday.

me-Prince wrote that.

them-No he didn't.

Then they'll look it up on the internet or something and say "see, christopher tracey."

me-That's one of his aliases!

them-you just don't want to be wrong.

cue my head exploding

wall

now:

Yeah, he wrote that Manic Monday song too.

me- I TOLD YOU THAT YEARS AGO!

Are they TRYING to kill me?!?!?!?

Y'all see Don Lemon mess up his "facts" on CNN a few times over? He was talking to Smokey Robinson or Ron Isley (I forget), and back tracking over his back tracking.

The weirdest thing about that Ron Isley Interview is Don did not know The Isley Brothers were out long before Prince and then he tried to play it off....Earlier that day he had Aretha on the phone...Aretha had been booked by all the Networks and the "telling" thing she said to Don was "I never knew Prince personally"....All these decades and they never met?

I do think it's funny. I know, or knew Kevin. I haven't talked to him much recently. but yeah, he's a stickler & he'd laugh about it if I corrected him.

FUNKNROLL

Talking to new fans on "Parade vs. UTCM" albums...

Parade is by far the superior masterpiece. The experimentation and complex arrangements are Prince at his visionary, world-building finest.

UTCM? - it's no filler but it pales when compared to Parade. But really, seems like a straight commercial cash grab w/a few creative flourishes. Oddly, the singles extended versions are what save it from being too radio friendly.

Ok, it took me a second to understand what you were talking about because they're the same album. Have you actually heard people say stuff like this?
