surely not as other people have stated a man like Prince must have thought about his assets and who and where they should go after he dies...

I'm sure he thought about it. If he didn't do it, maybe it was because he knew it would be a huge, complicated affair and he assumed he would live long enough to take care of it later.

I'm surprised he did not set things up for his own sister while he was alive. Maybe it is best that a will was never made. His sister should get it all, in my opinion.

For a person as wealthy as Prince, there are normally a lot of tax considerations that go into estate planning. He might not have wanted to deal with that.

From TMZ:

Prince's sister Tyka has filed legal docs to open a probate case ... and she says as far as she can tell he left no will.

TMZ has obtained documents filed in Minnesota, asking that she be appointed to probate Prince's estate. She's asking the judge to appoint her as a "special administrator." Under Minnesota law, a special administrator is someone who is appointed when there is no executor named in a will.

Tyka says in her docs, "I do not know of the existence of a will and have no reason to believe that the decedent executed testamentary documents in any form."

If Prince did indeed die without a will, the estate is divided equally among his siblings.

Tyka lists the people who are potential beneficiaries ... all of whom are half brothers and sisters. They are John, Norrine, Sharon, Alfred and Omar. They are all living siblings of Prince. She also says she's an heir.

It's interesting ... Tyka names Lorna as a deceased half sister who left no kids. Under Minnesota law Lorna's out of the game when it comes to getting assets. But Tyka never even mentions Duane, reportedly Prince's half-brother, who is also deceased.

Tyka then names Bremer Trust, National Association, which she wants to serve as the official administrator of Prince's estate. Tyka says she wants Bremer Bank because they have provided financial services to Prince for years, and they are well versed in his affairs and best suited to protect his assets.

And for the record, speaking for myself, I did not mean to critisize or 'shade' Tyka. I just was a bit surprised by a few aspects of those photos of her at the crematorium. But like I wrote earlier, I understand that everyone grieves differently and that sometimes food is comfort - especially a favorite food or snack. I certainly didn't mean any disrespect or to be snarky, particularly at a time like this. I was only remarking based on my own perspective and experiences and I tried to be as non-"shade"-y as I could. I think a few here are way overreacting to people simply stating benign observations, more so than anybody being genuinely upset about or "shading" Tyka.

The very thought of this makes me sick to my stomach - literally. This cannot be true, but

nevertheless, the thought of it being YEARS before listening to newly released or rereleased music

is unbearable to think about.

I don't believe this. After being married twice and haveing a child I can't believe he didn't have at least 1 will written. Maybe there is one his sister doesn't know about. This is gettying fishy. This could aslo be a tatcic by his sister to find out of there is a will. Lawyers will be forced to respond. After fighting so hard for his catlog I can'e see Prince not securing the future of his music especially with his vault of unreleased material.

If Londell is saying shit like Prince thought he would live forever he is scamming us and everybody! And he must think we his fans are pretty f'ing STUPID!And he is a terrible lier at that, making up such ridiculousness and portraying Prince as a freak!Londell did some work for MJ in 2008 settling some miscellanious lawsuits and such. Londell is one of Prince's longest standing attorneys and he has nothing? No Notorized WILL?What is he hiding and why is he lying?I don't like that this is a red flag for murder and theft of his estate! This is the same shit that stole MJ's estate! Who is the John Branca in Prince realm? Anyone know? All I know is Londell is not to be trusted if he is saying this kind of sht!

Prince is not going to NOT have a WILL! They BETTER FIND IT! If they don't, it was STOLEN AND DESTROYED just like Michael's! Randy Phillips/Conrad Murry broke into the safe and took it in MJ's case. Colony Capital Tom Borack owned MJ's Properties and Katherin's house and took the Will Copies. So either Prince made the deal with WB last september to have them take care of the music vault and maintain the paisley park museum for his fans and as a music education center for youth and recording artist talent. The Will would have been for his assets and bank accounts and personal items ect to his sister Tyka and siblings and any nieces/nephews ect.

Yeah! Prince was a full-grown man in assless pants and make-up who was against blood transfusions and contracts, even when he signed them himself, and not a freak! This is a white man conspiracy, led by a black lawyer! OMG WTF!!!

Unlike wills and probate court proceedings, such trusts can be kept confidential from the public. If Prince chose this route, it's possible we may never know the true extent of his estate or his plans for it after his death. "Usually, wealthy, organized people or sophisticated celebrities use trusts that are set up while they're alive, to determine (what happens after death) in a confidential way, they're not public documents," says Koznitsky. "They don't want the world to know who their beneficiaries (the heirs) are, or special dispositions, etc." USA today

This makes far more sense than there being nothing at all.

This is very likely. If i'm not mistaken, MJ's family also thought that MJ left no will, but as it turned out, his lawyers came forward to reveal that he's settled everything before his death.

Those are things that were important to him while he was still alive. If there are no children, no wife, no close family members and a reluctance to release old music due to the lyrical contents, why should he care about what is going to happen to all of that after he´s gone?

Remember that when it comes to business, Paisley Park was often managed like a lemonade stand...from merchandising to how some shows were planned, some of it was rather amateurish or downright illegal (the way he used amateurs during the Crystal Ball fiasco, or that he released stuff that theoretically still belonged to WB ).

Not trying to sound like a party pooper here, and yes, he´s had some great lawyers that achieved a lot for him that he could have benefited from if he stayed alive for a couple more years, but to think that he was always efficient in his business affairs is not really correct.

Tax problems, unpaid band members, etc. etc.

On the other hand he was very organized and generous when he wanted to .

Yes, with all due respect to the man, perhaps he was too busy thinking about and making music instead of micromanaging his business affairs. Kevin Smith in his talk also mentioned that he wasn't paid for the work he did for a week in Paisley Park.

It explains nothing, as I work in film and WB film and WB music have absolutely nothing to do with each other. This probably works the same.

I think we should all lay off Tyka.

A) She is grieving the loss of her brother

B) We have no evidence that she would do Prince and his legacy any wrong

C) If we keep tarnishing her with the wrong brush she may well say "fuck it" to all of us and lock up the vault

I suggest we keep it civil and give her encouragement and support. Afterall, she may well become incredibly important to us when it comes to continuing our musical journey with Prince. The last thing we need is for her to be pissed off and angry with us for making false claims against her. Lets just give her space and see how everything unfolds.

Well said Rebeljuice. People are upset and jumping to all sorts of conclusions based on very little information. Let's just hang on and wait for the autopsy results at the very least. If Prince didn't have a will, then that was of his choosing, there's no point getting angry at anyone left behind for trying to sort things out.

RIP sad
