Some of y'all are straight up trippin. Cannot believe y'all can be so possessive over somethin that is not yours. Like you should even have an opinion on where Prince's money stay after he died? Ugh. Talk about making someone sick to their stomach.

Sorry if that's offensive to y'all. I have no interest in the money. If there's a will though, I'd bet half my weekly salary, she ain't in it.

Prince loved his family, dude. Might not've been best friends with any of them, but he loved his family. Suggesting Tyka, who he was closest to of all the kids still living, isn't in the will is absurd. Not trying to be disrespectful, but give me a break here.

If there are no children, no wife, no close family members and a reluctance to release old music due to the lyrical contents, why should he care about what is going to happen to all of that after he´s gone?

Remember that when it comes to business, Paisley Park was often managed like a lemonade stand...from merchandising to how some shows were planned, some of it was rather amateurish or downright illegal (the way he used amateurs during the Crystal Ball fiasco, or that he released stuff that theoretically still belonged to WB ).

Not trying to sound like a party pooper here, and yes, he´s had some great lawyers that achieved a lot for him that he could have benefited from if he stayed alive for a couple more years, but to think that he was always efficient in his business affairs is not really correct.

Tax problems, unpaid band members, etc. etc.

On the other hand he was very organized and generous when he wanted to .

I agree. For those of us on here regularly, we know the 'How much is Prince worth' arguement well.

A musical genius, but he was not a good business man. He followed his heart (Bless him), but money didn't matter, apart from on a day to day basis. When he had a bill to pay, he dropped a gig on us or a rich Sheik.

I will not be suprised if there really is no will and I'm expecting his Estate to contain little or no money. Just property assets and catalogue value. That will make any fight for it a mess.

Tyka has done the right thing in the first instance. It tries to ringfence the estate.

I'm afraid there's a lot of wishful thinking going on here. Yes, he was looking back, writing his memoirs, but you only start writing your memoirs if you intent to finish them! And he was also having a brand new bass and guitar made for himself and you don't do that if you think you won't be able to play them. So if he didn't expect to die, he didn't leave a will. It's entirely possible.

Agreed, since he started his memoirs (I read he had around 50 pages written thusfar) it looks like he maybe knew or felt something .... BUT I 100% think Prince thought he still had more time left on this earth to finish it and do other stuff and take care of things.

His death was completely unexpected and that's why so many things were not properly taken care of yet (no will, die all alone in a freaking elevator, memoirs not finished, just given a new piano and guitar, bass was still on the way?, plans to do more charity work coming fall, take the piano & mic tour to europe, etc.) Ugh it's such a big tragedy ...

And again I ask, why did a supermegastar like Prince worth 100s of millions not have some sort of (portable) emergency system in place that possibly could have saved him? That way he could still be left alone all he wanted but in case of an emergency (medical or kidnap attempt etc) help would be there in a few minutes. IMO all his friends should have talked to him about subscribing to such a service until he would have done it!

Lastly, it seems to me Prince escaped certain death already a few days before his actual passing, when his plane made that emergency landing he was unresponsive, medical personal saved his life then already for the first time!!! by administering a "save shot"... that incident should have been enough warning for his inner circle of friends to do something and take extra good care of him the days and weeks following that. Even Prince could not escape from death twice ... broken

You just changed my whole perspective on this...he probably was sick, but didnt expect to go this soon and as somebody said the Nelson's have never said anything remotely bad about him. So maybe there is one and this is a just a way to throw off the public. I just cannot believe that a man who calculated every move and aspect of his cash flow would not have a will. There are pieces missing to this puzzle.

Remember he was going to write his memoirs only up to 2007 maybe he knew he might not have enough time to complete it. Just a thought. We may never know now. sad

This from Variety:
The documents ask that Bremer Trust, a corporate trust company that has handled Prince’s financial affairs for several years, be named temporary administrator of the estate until a representative is appointed.

What the fuck?!?!???!?!?

How does a professional trust company NOT push for a will to be filed?!?!?!?!?

This is all actually fascinating.

Tyka is applying to be a Special Administrator, and not a Permanent Administrator.

The actual form she filled-out is very mundane. It's called a P-405 form. Just Google for "Minnesota P-405."

What's interesting is that the Special Administrator role can be granted by the courts, with our without a will. In this case, Tyka believes there is currently no will...

http://m.dummies.com/how-...rator.html

You can temporarily run the deceased's affairs, and you also get to drill into safe boxes (vaults?) if you can't find the key...

Maybe the will is known to be locked in THE Vault? It's like a movie really.

I am sooo hoping there is a Trust..at least that way he gets to decide what happens to everything, such as releasing the gems in the vault....but I have many wealthy clients who don't have a trust or even a Will...and many of them are attorneys! Go figure. My first lecture to all new clients is SET UP A TRUST, especially if you own a business because you need to protect the interest of the business from personal/individual lawsuits...that is also why I am leaning toward the existence of a Trust.

I've been researching Minnesotan law like a mofo, for thirty minutes.

If all his assets are in trusts, that renders the existence (or non-existence) of a will, null & void, doesn't it?

Also, you can't contest a named trust, like you could with a regular will, can you?

Since he was not married and had no children, he probably just assumed they would give his assets to his next of kin. Some things are just that simple to some people so they don't see the need to make it all complex...at least that's how I think which I'm guessing isn't the case. I'm pretty sure there's a will. His lawyers weren't going to let him not make a will with the amount of money he had. Financial Advisors will tell you to make sure you have trusts, savings, life insurance, and everything just in case something was to happen to you. I'm sure he had a few financial advisors in his business circle telling him these things. I would hope they wouldn't make this into a game of greed. So far, I'm very happy with how his relatives have handled things. With the handing out of gifts to fans outside PP; to having him cremated as he would have wanted the moment they were given his remains; to having a private ceremony, I think they will do right by him. *crosses fingers*

From TMZ:

Prince's sister Tyka has filed legal docs to open a probate case ... and she says as far as she can tell he left no will.

TMZ has obtained documents filed in Minnesota, asking that she be appointed to probate Prince's estate. She's asking the judge to appoint her as a "special administrator." Under Minnesota law, a special administrator is someone who is appointed when there is no executor named in a will.

Tyka says in her docs, "I do not know of the existence of a will and have no reason to believe that the decedent executed testamentary documents in any form."

If Prince did indeed die without a will, the estate is divided equally among his siblings.

Tyka lists the people who are potential beneficiaries ... all of whom are half brothers and sisters. They are John, Norrine, Sharon, Alfred and Omar. They are all living siblings of Prince. She also says she's an heir.

It's interesting ... Tyka names Lorna as a deceased half sister who left no kids. Under Minnesota law Lorna's out of the game when it comes to getting assets. But Tyka never even mentions Duane, reportedly Prince's half-brother, who is also deceased.

Tyka then names Bremer Trust, National Association, which she wants to serve as the official administrator of Prince's estate. Tyka says she wants Bremer Bank because they have provided financial services to Prince for years, and they are well versed in his affairs and best suited to protect his assets.

"Under Minnesota law, a person can secretly file a will with probate court. If Prince did so, the fact that one exists would become public once a death certificate is filed -- but the medical examiner hasn't issued one yet."

[Edited 4/26/16 10:45am]

Anyone else here feel that his sister is a bit too quick out of the gate with this? The man only passed a few days ago and she is confident there is no will? Has she looked on all of his computers? Has she turned Paisley Park upside down? Has she spoken with all of his lawyers? And does anyone else believe her husband's story of Prince not having slept for 6 days? I mean- how would he know? I don't know where I'm going with this, but something just doesn't feel right.

I'll say it again; when Prince was in the midst of fighting for his masters, and finally got them back with Londell leading the legal charge, it's inconceivable that they would not have had a will in place to ensure that they would not somehow revert back to WB or any other corporate entity. Has Londell spoken out about this yet?

I haven't read that Londell has made a response in regards to the discussion of the will as of yet. From what I read this morning (before the news of the will), he only addressed his working relationship with Prince during the whole masters situation with WB and the rumors that TMZ has put out there about his so called addiction to drugs, which he said he doesn't believe to be true.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I don't understand it all completely myself, but Special Administrator is definitely a temporary position, if granted by a judge.

Tyka isn't applying to grab Prince's entire estate. It'll just allow her to ensure that Prince's businesses continue to run... And give her legal permission to drill into safety deposit boxes.

She may apply for actual Probate once the Death Certificate is officially filed.

Why do people find it so hard to believe that Prince may NOT have made a will? The only real function of a will is to give specific assets to specific people. Can you really see him sitting down and thinking "I want Sheila E. to have my house, Levi to have all my guitars"? What did he do in life to make you think he would be concerned with what happened after he died? He barely liked looking at the past, I highly doubt he was thinking about a future where he didn't even exist....

TMZ are exaggerating.

Someone has to have the authority to ensure that employees are paid; that the lights stay on at Paisley Park. Someone has to sign the cheques.

That seems to be what the Special Administrator role encompasses.

Click the "Fill Online" button, to view the form.

https://www.pdffiller.com...able-Forms

It's purely petitioning to administrate affairs as a temporary measure. It's nothing to do with gold-digging.

It's just a mundane form, asking what your relationship to the deceased is, and why you need to have administrative authority.
