Read Fury's reply. Prince may have made provisions in a different, less public way.

I understand that he may have done that but still my mind goes back to the 911 call and folks not even knowing they were in paisley park...some shit ain't right here.

Seems like forever but it's acutally only the fifth day. More things will be revealed in time.

I dropped $500 + incidentals to see Piano and a Microphone in January. I don't regret it for a second, in fact I would have happily paid twice that amount. But it makes me physically ill to know that every cent of that hard earned cash is going to be in the hands of none other than Tyka Nelson. I am disturbed to my core if it turns out to be true that Prince left no will.

I'm gonna update the thread with this, it clarifies the issue, I think...

From St. Paul Pioneer Press:

"Under Minnesota law, a person can secretly file a will with probate court. If Prince did so, the fact that one exists would become public once a death certificate is filed -- but the medical examiner hasn't issued one yet."

This is someone who made the pizza delivery guy sign a confidentiality contract (probably). He made provisions, believe me. I think he knew exactly where and to whom he his very hard earned legacy is going to. There's people who only have a cat and even they write a will saying who gets the cat. Ffs. ,, [Edited 4/26/16 9:56am]

Those are things that were important to him while he was still alive. If there are no children, no wife, no close family members and a reluctance to release old music due to the lyrical contents, why should he care about what is going to happen to all of that after he´s gone?

Remember that when it comes to business, Paisley Park was often managed like a lemonade stand...from merchandising to how some shows were planned, some of it was rather amateurish or downright illegal (the way he used amateurs during the Crystal Ball fiasco, or that he released stuff that theoretically still belonged to WB ).

Not trying to sound like a party pooper here, and yes, he´s had some great lawyers that achieved a lot for him that he could have benefited from if he stayed alive for a couple more years, but to think that he was always efficient in his business affairs is not really correct.

Tax problems, unpaid band members, etc. etc.

On the other hand he was very organized and generous when he wanted to .

You don't have to be efficient in your business affairs to have a will, you call a lawyer tell him who gets what, sign a paper and it's done. BTW you make him sound like an imbecile. ..Sorry not being rude but this was a shrewd man. He wasn't some money making puppet who was having his strings pulled by a team of demonic master puppeteers. Anyway, didn't he want to leave some money to charity?

I'm afraid there's a lot of wishful thinking going on here. Yes, he was looking back, writing his memoirs, but you only start writing your memoirs if you intent to finish them! And he was also having a brand new bass and guitar made for himself and you don't do that if you think you won't be able to play them. So if he didn't expect to die, he didn't leave a will. It's entirely possible.

I believe he filed something. Whether if it was a will or a trust, I believe he had something. It would had been crazy dumb not to and Prince may had been many things, but dumb HE WAS NOT.

He was intelligent so I'm hoping it's like Fury said.

There a fine line between an eccentric genius and someone who might have had little regard for estate planning.

Another thing that tripped me up was that Al Sharpton was on the air thursday immediatley have the news broke.....fishy.

He was with MJ during the MJ Angry Speach and was fast as being on the air with a speach already written for MJ the day he was murdered too.

So I am getting very sick and nervous about everything.

You just changed my whole perspective on this...he probably was sick, but didnt expect to go this soon and as somebody said the Nelson's have never said anything remotely bad about him. So maybe there is one and this is a just a way to throw off the public. I just cannot believe that a man who calculated every move and aspect of his cash flow would not have a will. There are pieces missing to this puzzle.

I honestly am not surprised nor am I worried about Tyka being in charge. Let's face it. Prince didn't even celebrate his birthday because he didn't want to worry about time, or death.

In any case.... I hope they don't give Tyka any problems....She is Blood and she deserves to have custodianship....She is his sister and next of kin....family.

I would rather she inherits it than WB corp execs.

I just saw that on Rolling Stone's website too.

If this is a known legal possibility, why would Tyka file for probate now? Is it even legally valid for her to do so? Would it have even been allowed to happen, if this is the known local law?

I feel like someone has fed TMZ some spin, for their own benefit. What that benefit is, I don't know.

Sorry if that's offensive to y'all. I have no interest in the money. If there's a will though, I'd bet half my weekly salary, she ain't in it.

But MJ left a will, although some of his siblings reportedly wanted to contest it. Prince effed up. MJ's estate has earned nearly $2B since he died, according to reports.

There may be pieces of Prince's estate that would require some direction. Filing with probate is an appropriate measure. It shows interest and intent to claim responsibility.

They would file just to get the process started. When the death certificate is filed, they can move forward quicker, whatever needs to be done.

I'll say it again; when Prince was in the midst of fighting for his masters, and finally got them back with Londell leading the legal charge, it's inconceivable that they would not have had a will in place to ensure that they would not somehow revert back to WB or any other corporate entity. Has Londell spoken out about this yet?
