Even the lyric to Mountains sort of hints at this... There's nothing greater than u and me? Really? What about Jesus?

To get this thread back on track, Spike Lee now says his NYC Prince tribute will be on Saturday, June 4 from noon to 6 p.m. in Brooklyn (exact location TBA). Source is Spike Lee's official Instagram account. He's calling it "Prince Born Day Purple People Party".

Ain't gonna post on the Madonna tribute thread. It was a sombre and respectful tribute, but it's time for someone to do a song besides Purple Rain. The best Purple Rain tribute I've seen so far was Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band's on April 23rd during their tour in Brooklyn. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I also enjoyed the Mumford & Sons tribute Nothing Compares 2 U at the end of their show the night he died as they were in town that night playing the Xcel Energy Center.

The Associated Press is reporting an interview by Dan RathAer with Andre Cymone is airing June 7 on AXS-TV. I don't know if it's musical or not, but I didn't know where else to post this since it's not magazines/newspapers.

It may be that way http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/7385070/prince-revolution-doctor-fink-tributes-tour Fink mentions a few things:

((I don't think I would enjoy hear usher or maxwell or beiber gaga or any other pop garbage singer butcher prince songs
Not Sinead!!
I would add to your line up:-
Parliament Funkadelic ...Prince was not only friends with the like of George Clinton, but would go to their concerts as "the kid"
John Mayer ... as an apparently very good guitar player and someone that Prince actually gave a standing ovation to. see this article:- http://www.cracked.com/bl...es/re-secr And see this :-
https://www.youtube.com/w...u_Rxt6kuEI
The Rolling Stones ...even though it didn't go so well, Prince was the supporting act for the Stones, plus Mick Jagger seems to have really respected him.
Any and ALL of his female proteges and back up singers (e.g. Elisa Fiorello, Bria )...performing all of their own music or his.
Judith Hill Esperanza Spalding (who I am seeing tomorrow, amd who Prince chose as a Purple Pick of the week) The guy who sings 'Happy' and 'Blurred Lines' (name is on the tip of my tongue... It starts with an L...) excellent song writer Maybe someone like Jose James (great singer with really unique voice) ...any newbie class acts Daft Punk ...excellent band
Paul McCartney
Stevie Wonder
Kate Bush Larry Graham
Stevie Nicks
Bruce Springsteen (don't care what the other poster said...)
Bob Dylan would be cool!
A Children's Choir (could sing Purple Rain or When Doves Cry)

Songs I would choose would be reasonably well known, including...
Purple Rain Little Red Corvette Raspberry Beret Dirty Mind Do Me Baby Mountains When Doves Cry Kiss Let's Go Crazy The Beautiful Ones Adore When You Were Mine Nothing Compares To You Starfish and Coffee It's Gonna Be Lonely Uptown 1 + 1 +1 = 3 Paisley Park Clouds Way Back Home (if it isn't too depressing) U Got the Look Take Me With You Sometimes it Snows in April Erotic City Sexy MF I Hate You
...bound to be others or better choices than what I could put together above. But am happy with most of my choices.

so, i just saw this on fb and not really sure how to feel about it:
. Just watched the #BillboardAwards and saw that Madonna covered the song #RIPPrince wrote for us way back in 1985. If you'd like to hear what it was meant to sound like, here's the link to the tribute we did 2 weeks ago.
. focus on "sponsored". . on one hand, i know these cats are trying to earn, and especially susannah has been having financial woes. . on the other hand, i don't like people eating off the back of a tragedy. same thing with all this BET shady nonsense. don't use this tragedy to sell your damn show.

I see what you mean. It can seem that way, especially when some band members are already asking for music they worked on with him, to be released from the vault, and he hasn't been gone more than 2 months yet. Can you imagine once it is known who will be in charge of his estate, and that person or persons, being bombarded with a multitude of requests and claims of vault material some, worked on with Prince? They know it will involve making money off of it, so that would not surprise me at all. Maybe the vault stuff should just be left alone(like Sheila E said), because if he wanted that stuff released, he would have done it years ago.. Hopefully the vault material doesn't cause any riffs between some former band members and Prince's family.

I think The Way Back Home is an excellent choice for tribute. So far you think he hadn't done anything since the 90's with these tributes. No More Haters on the Internet.

NPG MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Some core members of Prince's 1990s band the New Power Generation plan tribute concerts in Minneapolis this spring. Two DJs and other Twin Cities musicians will celebrate Prince June 3 and 4 at the Parkway Theater in south Minneapolis. The event is called "This Thing Called Life: The Prince Tribute." The NPG rhythm section of drummer Michael Bland and bassist Sonny Thompson will perform along with keyboardist Tommy Barbarella. The shows also will include singer Julius Collins and guitarist Tracey Blake of Sons of the Almighty. In a statement, Collins says the musicians are all in mourning following Prince's death last week, but plan to celebrate his life in June. Tickets already are sold out online, but walk-up tickets may still be available. The shows are for 21 and older.

I'm just a little twisted that I've been trying to see if anything was going in in MPLS this next week for a while now, and I cancelled my plans to go. Now, even if I did want to go, this tribute is sold out. Again, thank you for posting info. [Edited 5/31/16 10:51am] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Any word on the rumored middle of August tribute in MPLS?
The newly built US Bank Stadium lists Metallica performing Saturday Aug 20th as the "first rock concert" at the new stadium.
Thoughts? Rumors? | |

This Thing Called Life, the tribute with Michael B, Sonny T, and Tommy B is in a small movie theater where there are sometimes other events. http://theparkwaytheater.com/ According to Star/Tribune music critic Chris Reimenschneider they booked it as a "low-key local tribute for their own emotional healing and bonding." Since demand for tix was so high they decided to add a third show. This is certainly NOT some sort of crass money grab but I'm sure will be a very respecful tribute by those who were there. Chris got to sit in on a bit of rehearsal and reports that he had chills from the get go.
I'm quite excited for this as this was his band in 95 when i started going to Paisley at least once a week and seeing shows. He played out there a ton that Summer and on into the years to follow...

Well, what does it cost to put on a show like this? It costs $400 an hour to rent the theater plus other fees (right there on the site) They are flying in a musician from LA. 6 or 7 band members, sound folks, roadies, security, DJ, equiptment... How many people can fit in a movie theater? I doubt anyone is getting rich off this.

[Edited 6/1/16 18:55pm] Just stating facts. Using Prince's image Using Prince's symbol Using Prince's music Charging for tickets, even Prince rarely charged that much for Paisley shows! NOT COOL. That's all.
